That’s an option, but when you can post in good quality straight into the chat you’re in, not many are going to bother with jumping through additional hoops to do the sharing.
I guess different mindsets. Most people here automatically post to social media for sharing pics. Doesn't matter if everyone's on iMessage or WhatsApp.

I think the only time I use in-message image sending is when checking if the stuff we're buying from the grocery is correct or if I need to troubleshoot a computer problem so that's limited to just immediate family members (who are all on iPhone).

Let me know when google starts updating 5 year old Android phones.

They actually do in a way. Google Play Services works all the way down to Android 4.0 (used to be 2.3 not that long ago) and it updates the components and apps hosted there via the Play Store without needing a carrier-approved full OS update. Google’s also been moving more and more Android core components and apps there to make them easier to update when e.g. a vulnerability is discovered. However, if the vulnerability resides in a component that still requires a proper OS update, Google Play Services won’t help, but they’re working on making it apply to an increasing amount of scenarios.

Where’s the Apple tax for Apple products other than computers? AirPods are comparably priced, iPhone is too as much as people will disagree (X was $999 vs Note 8 $949), Apple Watch, etc..

Well in my coutnry the iPhone X starts at £999 and the note 8 at £870 so there is a big difference in price.

Well, the groups I message with tend to share also images every now and then, so that makes SMS/MMS fallback a terrible option because of the severely degraded image quality. With WhatsApp you’ll get a similar quality (in practical sense anyway, haven’t checked the actual details) as iMessage.
We get charged 45 p per MMS and will be going up to 55p in August so falling back on MMS in not an option for me when what’s app allows me to send media for free.

Well thats the whole issue with Apples stupid walled garden, you all have to use an iPhone to benefit. Google photos on the other hand is there for anyone to use. Same deal with iMessage, sure its a great app but only iPhones users benefit, then you have Whatsapp thats provides the exact same features to EVERYONE. There are awesome alternatives to all the Apple apps its just that Walled garden keeps you closed off from the rest of the world. Apple are smart they do it on purpose to trap people and make it very hard for someone to want to leave all the while profiting massively from their heavily marked up hardware.

Let me tell you the S9+ runs better then the iPhone X. The better ram management alone makes it far superior.

I own the s9+ too and have the iPhone X. My work phone is the s9+. It isn't any better than the X other than the larger screen.

Various Youtube videos showing the S9 beating the iPhone X in performance and speed. Im sorry but this is just fact, the Ram management on the iPhone is rubbish.

iOS ages brilliantly, that's why people regularly still use iPhone 5Ss.

Try iOS 11 on 5S... Works like crap....and don't get me started with iPhone 6S battery. iOS devices does not age well.

So? All Apple does is give a software update that makes older devices slow as hell. Even iPhone 7 struggle with iOS 11 sometimes. Tell me how iPhone 4 works with iOS 7, how iPhone 4S work with iOS 9...yeah... 5 years update is meaningless if software update makes devices runs like crap. I rather stay with old software works well.

Give the S9 a month or two to deteriorate and become as slow as it’s predecessors.
Had mine since launch and its gotten even faster ;) I know this hurts but the S9 is faster then whatever iPhone you have in your pocket largely due to Android getting leaner and more optimised. Not to mention the S9 has way better Ram management which means my apps don't reload all the time. Then you have the lightly skinned Android phones running the 845, iPhone does not even come close to them in terms of performance. Welcome to 2018, Android is no longer laggy, get used to it.

Then it will get a software update, get really fast for a bit, and then slow down again inexplicably. It's happened to me several times seemingly at random on my Galaxy S7.
The S7 was laggy after the first week basically. My S8 on the other hand still runs great and my S9 is next level smooth. Android and particularly Samsung have made big steps forward since the S7.

In those speed tests loading apps iPhone is just as fast on most and in some apps faster, it’s when they reload the already open apps on the back end that RAM management and extra RAM on board play into it and shine on the android no doubt.

The CPU is faster on day to day apps but it can’t beat the A11 chip in benchmarks that test CPU real muscle all the way around using all cores.

Have you seen iOS 12 beta? Apple might take back the crown. iOS 12 is much faster than 11 from what beta testers claim. Stay tuned for rematch.

It’s one of the main reasons I also said goodbye to android myself. I like timely updates.

Only Pixel has timely updates but I don’t like Pixel for two reasons :
1. I’m not switching to Verizon just to use one.
2. I need more than just a good camera and the pixel phone doesn’t hold a candle to Samsung S8/9 or Apple’s X, 8 or 7 all around IMO.

Another good thing about Apple, the updates are not just on the latest phone but on phones all the way down the iPhone 5 and they won’t have to wait 8 months after release to have it too. I feel sorry for Samsung owners paying premium prices for that.

I agree with most of what you are saying, my point is the S9 is not laggy like some Apple fans like to say it is and as it stands has much better RAM management which makes the experience so much better. Then you have the S10 with a rumoured significantly faster CPU and even more Android optimisation that will put Samsung back ahead and the cycle continues.

My dads 5S has iOS 11 on it and works fine...

So why haven't the improvements come back to the S7 with the software updates? Or have Qualcomm's monster chips just finally gotten so fast that they can overcome the massive load of cruft and crud in BloatWiz?

I wish AT&T would just enable VoWiFi for the Pixel 2. They allow VoLTE on the Pixel 2 now, so it's only VoWiFi that's missing to make it 100% functional on AT&T. T-Mobile will have to wait for the Pixel 3 in order to get B71.

Supposedly the Pixel's camera is the best on the market.
[doublepost=1531921692][/doublepost]Also, how's the battery life on the S9 series? My S7 is atrocious on standby, and almost as bad when using it.

I’ve been back on my iPhone 8 for the past week, love affair with my S9 is over. I strongly dislike it now. March through mid July was a good run for me. Will sell it and use a Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 in the fall for my Android fix. It is Pixel or nothing for me now when it comes to Android. iOS 12 betas have worked perfectly for me so far. Once / if Waze and Google maps work with CarPlay in the fall, it may be game over for good re: Android with me, despite my enjoyment of both ecosystems and playing with cell phones.

Did it lag?

Well you certainly gave it a good shot. This is my third year of getting a Samsung Galaxy as a second phone and the previous two years I only managed about 3 months before I sold the phone. However for 2 months the phones were mostly sat in a drawer and I never took out my sim from my iPhone. Can’t say I had any issues with the S7 edge or note 8. It was just trying to fit them in with all my other Apple devices.

However this year I got a gear VR and I’ve been enjoying using my S9 with that and also using the phone to take pics in low light with variable aperture feature. I also have a google Home mini so I’ve been using it with that and using the mini to control My chromecast and I’ve signed up for YouTube premium so there’s that too. Obviously each iteration of the phone gets better year over year and I do like the addition of the Dolby Atmos stereo speakers. I also still have my Dex station from last year so I’ve been using that again. I’m also enjoying the larger display. So chances are I will be keeping it and using it as a secondary phone. My X will remain as my daily driver until I get my X plus when it comes out.

Did it lag?
Didn't lag, but it always stutters during animations which annoyed me. I read that it may be because I have a Verizon variant and the unlocked ones don't suffer from this, who knows. I adjusted transition time or something that made the animation quicker in dev settings, forgot at moment what it was. It did help. My main gripe is that it takes a step longer to do things on the S9 compared to say a Pixel. The additional Samsung apps are a pain and navigation is nowhere near as fluid as Pixels. It is very hard to explain. I always felt as if I was doing an extra step or click in whatever tasks I was trying to do, is the best way to put it. I tried Nova launcher but for some reason it messed with Android messages notifications. That was a first, never had problems with Nova before. And I really feel the battery life is terrible. This is the smaller S9, I never tried the S9+.

Yes 3 months is pretty average for me when it comes to trying Android phones. I've never tried VR, I'm sure it is incredible with the S9. My favorite feature of the S9 by far is the sound. Holy cow it is incredible. Stereo speakers are so full and rich sounding and can get very loud. Better than my old iPhone X that I had and my current 8.

I'm sorry, but it's not fact. In day to day usage, it is not faster. I'd say both are equal depending on what you are using but when using the CPU heavy, the iPhone will beat it.

Then you had a defective one. I had the s7 edge and it was fast at first, then first major update slowed down, then 2nd became almost not usable. Maybe you didn't have it from launch and already had the updates that released which made it bad?

Might want to use a spelling checker....

It's not laggy right now, but with Samsung history has shown the last 5 years or more, every phone they have had has slowed way down over time. My S4, S5, s7 edge, Note 3, 4, 5 (had 7 and 8 but not long enough to see this) all did this. I expect my s9+ too as well.

Your post history here has already proven you to be a Apple hater and an Android fan. It's not worth getting into any heated battle with you.

The S9+ I have, the battery life is very good. It out lasts my iPhone X. I would say equal to the 8 plus battery life. I can get 2-3 days out of "normal" usage.

An "Apple hater" thats has owned more Apple gear then you most likely. I don't hate Apple, i just don't wear Apple Coloured glasses and see products for what they actually are. I work in the Graphic arts industry, i uses Macs all day and i use them at home as well and i'm a huge fan of OSX. I just get sick of idiots saying things when they have no idea what they are talking about, The S9 does not lag and is not slowing down, same with the Note 8. History does not equal present. Also my S7 was not faulty, 2 other mates owned the same phone and both of them had the same lag.
