Are we really debating iOS is more secure than android? Lol

For those that don’t know, Apple’s privacy policy is better and doesn’t allow metadata to be collected unlike android. Sorry if you thought otherwise.

The same reason android fans dislike about the “sandbox experience”, or being behind the “garden wall” of iOS is also the very reason you won’t download a malicious app from the App Store that will steal your info. Pros and Cons to everything and security is the Pro side of not having an open standard free for all.

Fact is, while Apple does allow some “special apps” to access limited data like blocking spam calls or texts, they have to be specifically enabled by you which is like a process for enabling third-party keyboard.

Yeah.......Imagine learning all your call history and SMS data was being collected by Facebook for years on Androids, then sold to someone else.....just wow!
But weren’t there Chinese apps in the App Store a few years ago that were infected with malware.

Not to take away from a new purchase, but I have had several issues with my 8 plus. Had to exchange the first one two weeks after I got it. Not to mention you are comparing a new phone with older technology.

I find people who usually switch from one phone to another will find issues with their old phones justified or not. Once a person decides they need a new phone there is no turning back or convincing them otherwise.

Enjoy the Apple eco system. Some find it very limiting. Others love it.

I do feel in your quest for greener grass you passed over some other very good phones.

BTW, you cite Photoshop as a reason for switching. I read photoshop is coming to iPad but did not know it was already here. Couldn't you edit photos on either platform? Or was this a preemptive thing?

If I have to chose between so called unsecured system and wall gardened system, i choose unsecured system. I will not allow myself locked into a wall gardened system and let Apple rips me off. Quit frankly, i think iPhone is rip off.

I download apps from multiple sources, for example: Play Store, Amazon App Store, APK Mirror and never had problem with these. Also you are mistakenly believe Apple App Store is 100% safe. There are multiple incidents where malicious app were in the iOS App Store.

And also, Facebook learns your history on your iPhone as well. It is not like Facebook does not collected your date from your iPhone. If you believe that, you are too naive.

I never understood why does everyone need post their switch story. It is not like one would care about OP switched to iOS. I left iOS camp long time ago, i never post my switch story.

Great OP gets his phone and he liked it. So what, nobody really cares someone picked up other street phone.

To be fair, Apple has a much better support system in place for replacing iPhone batteries than Samsung has. The ubreakifix thing is OK, but they don't have nearly as many locations as Apple.

Apple overcharge battery replacement pretty hard. I changed my iPhone 6S battery at third party location for much cheaper.

meh.. I don't buy flagship phone (with only exception of Huawei P20 and Mate 10). I really don't care battery crapped out on these phone. I will just go buy a new phone.

At least they have a first party option that's widely accessible. The same cannot be said of most Android phones. They also charge $80 last time I heard, which is quite reasonable.

I am curious as I’ve seen this posted before, but how exactly is the iPhone a ripoff? New MacBook, sure, I get that. But iPhone options cover the high end android range fairly competitively.

Two screenshots proves everything eh? I can show you bunch of iPhone error message. Does that means iPhone is ****?

But iPhone is **** regardless
Actually I don't feel the need to "prove" anything to you. This is a thread about our experience with Android and why we are leaving it. You seem to be the one on a mission to defend Android. LOL... what do you expect.... some sort of months long investigation about my Android phone, with hundreds of screenshots and detailed problem logs to "prove" my statement to you?

This wasn't my first Android phone. Over the years I have had several... even the very first Android phone (Tmobile G1/HTC Dream). I was always into the rooting/hacking scene. But I always wound up with an iPhone as my daily driver because it is always to most smooth and seamless experience. Even with 3rd party apps... multi-platform apps are usually better on iPhone. I dunno if it is that companies seem to put more resources into their iOS development teams or that Apple has better development tools, but iOS apps always seem to have more polish.

Anyway... back to my original point... my Galaxy S9 had so many issues... it became a hinderance. Apps force closing constantly. Unresponsive screen at times. Camera app taking a picture but it saving a "grey blank" with a question mark instead of the photo. Awful experience.

Developers but more effort into developing for iOS because there is more revenue for them on iOS. Not only do people spend less money on Android apps but piracy is also a big problem.

I probably don’t use my android devices for long enough to notice if they have issues before I get rid of them. I have an S9 plus which is not my daily driver and I haven’t had any issues in the 3 weeks since I got it.

Always surprised this thread does it not belong in Android / Alternative forum.

(I have tablets and phones from both platforms, each is useful, even at times a Surface Pro along with MacBook which barely gets any use anymore).

...!

You are confused. iOS allows devs to collect info.

You need a brass mesh hat. :D

Why you say that?

According to cvedetails.com website, the number of discovered vulnerabilities of closed iOS is about 1400 versus 1800 for open-sourced android. If you take into consideration of how closed off iOS is and also how many more of thes nasties that apple have concealed from you, it just doesnt instill much confidence in the security setup of iphone at all.

Of course, you can opt to put on a rose-tinted apple glasses :)

Nope your wrong, iOS didn’t allow the Facebook fiasco Metadata to be shared. It did not effect iOS and it’s because of the better privacy policy devs must follow in order to have apps in the App Store.

Also I doubt your on the Android forum berating android users who left iOS and are happy, so stop trolling us on the Mac forums.

So to prove you wrong about Facebook sharing our data....

“The salient point is, of course, that iOS never allowed it. This type of abuse was simply never possible if you used an iPhone. Apple built it that way on purpose and it protected its users from privacy violations like this before they ever happened.”

My friend across the country recently got married and I wasn’t able to attend. The next day his aunt added me to the shared Photos group and there are 10 other people in it. I get a little notification when someone adds a photo to the group and can like or comment on photos and videos. Or when my sister posts photos of my niece and nephew in our general family Photos group that includes our parents, her in laws, and her sister in law without having to share them with the entire world on social media. That, combined with FaceTime and iMessage are a constant reminder of why I can’t switch to Android. It sounds cheesy, but iOS keeps me connected to my loved ones in ways that Android can’t.

Oh, and AirPods. Don’t even get me started on how AirPods are the best thing Apple has ever created. Nothing remotely similar in the Android universe.

Google Photos has that EXACT same feature. If you pop your head out from behind the walled garden you would realise Apple is not the only one doing great things. Me and a few mates like to go to different F1 races around the world, we all take photos/Videos and add them to our F1 shared Album, its pretty awesome.

Congrats, you will love it. I am curious, with the new phones coming in September, was the situation dire enough not to wait?

I think Google photos has a similar photo sharing feature but if all of your contacts use icloud photo sharing then it's not going to be useful.

iOS is a lot smoother than a Samsung phone with BloatWiz. I think BloatWiz is a huge chunk of the problem, as even a relatively cheap Android phone like the Moto G6 is pretty smooth. Not quite iPhone smooth, but pretty good. The apps, however, do look better on iOS, I think companies just care more about their apps on iOS because iOS users have higher expectations and Apple is more strict about the look and feel of apps.

What carrier? With T-Mobile or AT&T, you'd lose LTE bands, even on Verizon you lose 4x4 MIMO.

Why you say that?

Your whole thing about secure folder.

Sure. I have exactly opposite of experience. iPhone 6S slowing down, apps are crashing without reasons. While I am using my 300 dollars Android phone without problem

Yeah...except nobody in my life uses google photo. So if I did, I would be left out.

And that’s only one thing. Android never implemented anything similar to iMessage and FaceTime for their users. You still have to rely on third parties. Nothing beats going into your contacts, tapping the little camera icon and being on video chat within seconds.

Read your article.

Google deprecated version 4.0 of the Android API in October 2017—the point at which the latest call metadata in Facebook user's data was found.

In short, FaceBook can't access your metadata.

You know what else you can do? Disable Facebook access level.

Nothing beats ability to switch anytime.

I like Apple. I don’t want to switch. I’m not locked into anything and I can switch whenever I want, but there’s a lot of sacrifices I would have to make. If I have to make that many concessions to switch to a different OS....what the hell is the point?

Also, once again....AirPods. Game over.

To be fair, Google has tried a few solutions of their own in relation to that, the most recent being Allo and Duo, if I recall correctly.

That really sucks that people are railroading you into using Apple proprietary services. I always have made a point of using only cross-platform software and products, both on Mac and iOS. It helps that I know more people on Android than iOS though, so there's basically zero pressure to have iDevices just for compatibility, so I can switch around and no one really cares.

No one is railroading me. Everyone in my life is Apple based for a reason, because we’ve collectively agreed on its superiority. There’s nothing even remotely tempting me to switch to Android. It doesn’t offer anything that I’m missing. I don’t need “customization”. I need a rock solid device that “just works” and is supported for years. I also don’t want my carrier to approve my software updates.

Nothing superior. Carriers are no longer reqd to certify updates in post Project Treble Android.

Hasn't always been true but is now. And iOS has never been all roses. Not 9.1 not 10.1 it 11 1. Normally not until the dot 3 version. And you only get support if you are on latest build, because support is yanked very fast.

The blind leading the blind?
