I can't even tell everyone here how many times I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, deleting the "drive" folder, rebooting (thank god this computer is fast), etc...

Does anyone have an idea as to how we are all experiencing different "fixes"?

As far as I know, no one has gotten this to work with 11.01 and M1 reliably. Some were working prior to 11.01. Some are working on Intel, and some have worked briefly, but I've seen no one claim it works reliably on 11.01 on M1.

Is anyone losing any files when GDrive breaks?

My MBA is due to arrive today and I rely on GDrive for all my core work content. Am think about pushing the active daily files into iCloud to create some kind of stability. But I don't particularly like iCloud. Anyone done this or switched to Dropbox?

Microsoft OneDrive works fine on M1, how can they make it work and Google not? Beats me. Not sure about the other providers.....

Most of your question is already answered in the message you quoted.
I am using a MacBook Pro. And as I said, no issues at all since day one.
How did you install it? Have you verified that it's working recently? What's the configuration of your MBP? i.e. memory and disc space?

I managed to get it up and running (have no idea why it suddenly worked) however it crashed again after sync was done, so I gave up and cancelled Google, moved all to Icloud. Since other providers I tried (OneDrive, mega etc.) works as well, this is a Google issue.

Same issue here with a brand new M1 MBA running 11.0.1. I've tried all the workaround suggested multiple times and nothing has worked. Called Apple customer care and they aren't aware of the issue since Big Sur Beta. No help there.

Followed the steps in #11 by cemetry_gates with a couple of modifications. Worked great for me:

Open finder and go to the following folder: ~/Library/Application Support/Google
 1. Delete the "Drive" folder there
 2. Move the Backup & Sync app to the trash
 3. Empty the trash folder
 4. Download and Reinstall the Backup & Sync app
 5. DO NOT LAUNCH BACKUP & SYNC YET
 6. Restart your Mac
 7. Mac might ask you about security of downloading an app. If so, allow the Backup & Sync App
 8. DO NOT LAUNCH BACKUP & SYNC YET (2nd time)
 9. Restart your Mac
 10. Launch Backup & Sync this time.
 11. Like cemetry_gates, everything with the app started working fine after this. I also chose to Merge to avoid duplicating files.
I felt safer doing two restarts before launching. Maybe it was overly cautious, but after seeing that cemetry_gates still had errors, that's what I decided to do. Good luck!

I installed Backup and Sync after 11.0.1 when I got my MBA on 20th November. As far as I can tell it's still working normally with version 3.53.3404.7585.

Here's a screenshot, although it might not convince the doubters (chain of custody protocols were not adhered to):

For what it's worth, the root of my sync folder is off ~/Google\ Drive i.e. I don't sync ~/Documents, ~/Pictures etc.

Users logging similar issues on the Google forum and receiving no acknowledgement from Google thus far, eg https://support.google.com/drive/thread/83698411?hl=en

I was starting to feel lucky with mine having got it working when my MBA landed on Monday, only for it to break this morning.

Am going to follow Desemac's idea above and if that fails I'm swapping to something else.

So I followed Desemac's steps and it failed at the end when I asked it to merge. Don't think I can trust this anymore so I'll figure out something today.

I have had the same issues, i have tried every remedy i have come across.

so i have moved my business off google drive (i do keep back ups) to iCloud and OneDrive.

google lately just gives me bad vibes, and i have lost all confidence in them. Whether this is a google drive issue or apple issue I don’t know.

I am not as knowledgable on the in and outs of all this Tech as many of you, but i cant risk lost files, or not being able to access on the road.

Did you get OD to install? I got a "We can't sync your ... folder" error and it timed out.

Exactly the same as you, over and over. Every workaround i have found ends in the same result.

The more i search the more confusing it gets, some accusing GOOGLE and its their side, and they not interested till sometime in 2021, and others saying its apple side.

As said, other than a tourist knowledge of tech, and simply loving new shiny things that get my work done, and makes me smile while doing it lol.

Yeah, this is gonna be a real-world hassle for some peeps. I've just got (I think) OD up and running under another account and pushed 10Gb of core GDrive files into it to see how it works.

BTW, I think my OD issue was due to having 2 accounts; one set up by my contracted employer and one for my own work use. I was trying to get the former to install but had to settle for the latter. Not yet sure if that crossover will cause any weirdness.
