FWIW, I had it working on my M1 MBA for a week or two and then I was stupid enough to restart the computer. I haven't been able to get it to work again since then but Google releases new versions early to mid-month each month so I hope something new will come along very soon: https://support.google.com/a/answer/7573023?hl=en
Well, they used to release updates monthly. But we haven't seen one now since Nov 6th. I hope they are working on this.

I see Apple updated Big Sur to 11.1. I was excited to see if it would work with the new update. Sadly, it still doesn't work. I may have to use Odrive if this continues much longer.

Was hoping the Big Sur update fixed it. (Nearly finished downloading) I am also thinking about moving my files soon.

Backup & Sync was working fine with my M1 Mini until OS 11.1 update killed it yesterday....Not cool....

For me it was working the very first day when I set things up on my mini, then it crashed and I never managed to get it working again like many of you, so I moved everything to Dropbox. I pay for Google Workspaces so I am annoyed that I have to pay for Dropbox, but Dropbox just works and is also A LOT faster at syncing than Google Drive/Backup and Sync. You can't even compare the two. In various past tests I found that Dropbox could sync in a few hours what Google Drive could do in several days. Really a massive difference. But if they sort it out I might switch back to Google Drive because Dropbox costs me another 12 bucks per month.

I rely on Backup & Sync and File Stream for daily tasks, and neither work on M1/Silicon, nor have they ever. I've tried 11.1 beta and 11.1. If it's not fixed by January, I will have to move over to Microsoft.

Granted it is a limited experience, but Backup & Sync worked for the first 5 days of my M1 Mini....and then stopped working with the 11.1 update this week....I also rely on B&S for daily tasks....especially important the more often I'm working remotely....I can live without it for the next few weeks, but then will have to consider alternatives...

I have been using InSync as a Google Drive client replacement on an M1 Mac Mini and an M1 MacBook Pro. It has worked flawlessly as a replacement and I will stick with it even when the official Google Drive client gets fixed.

OneDrive has been working great in my M1 MBA!

How is OneDrive's performance compared to Dropbox?
OneDrive sync has come a long way and sync works great for me across all my devices - iPhone, Mac and my iPad. The files on demand feature also makes it easier to see all the files but only download files on demand.

I stopped using Dropbox 2 years ago and just didn’t like their pricing model.

Made a mistake in my earlier reply. I am on Big Sur 11.1 and Back up and Sync auto installed an update and now it is working fine.

I just tried a clean install on Big Sur 11.1 and it did not work for me. Same error message at the end as described. I never get prompted for permissions or anything like some of the "workarounds" show. Tried with in-app account sign-in and using the browser, no difference.

Luckily I use OneDrive and Amazon Drive primarily, so this is not a serious loss for me, but I'm surprised Google hasnt addressed it yet.

Running Big Sur (11.1) on a Macbook Air M1. I got Backup and Sync to work as follows:
1) Installed Backup and Sync
2) Rebooted computer
3) Setup Backup and Sync (without turning on any syncing)
4) Then turned on Sync manually.

The sync process is still running, but it's already downloaded the first GB or 9 and seems to be working.

No rhyme or reason....long after I stopped messing around with B&S....after a totally unrelated restart of my M1 Mini....I look up....see that B&S actually loaded when restarting....the error message was there, but B&S was running....ran through the setup....everything synced....checked all my other devices....everything up to date.... I swear that I stopped drinking 18 years ago....still running now....I'll update again when I get back from the bar.....

WUT? Just checked the pricing. 6.99 for 1TB of storage and office apps include? That's really good, I am gonna give it a try. Thanks!

I am trying it now and it ridiculously slow. It's struggling to upload a few 10s of MBs and I have 1 Gbps connection. It's also not optimized for M1 yet, apparently. I guess I'll stick with Dropbox.

I'm now a day in, and everything is synced, and new files are syncing correctly.

I'm back from the bar...15 hours later....B&S still working across all devices...Still not sure how it started working again...all I can report is that I deleted the B&S app file....I downloaded a new copy...I installed the new copy without designating any syncing at all....then I rebooted....When the M1 Mini fired up, B&S was in the menu bar and running....I then had it sync to the pre-existing My Drive files only....and it started working again...I fear it will stop working once I have to reboot again...but for the time being, it's all good...(and, no, I didn't really go to the bar)...I'll report anything significant...

I set up Nextcloud in my Kubernetes cluster to give it a try.... so buggy :( I have tried several options so far and Dropbox is by far the absolute best for performance and more.

Is anyone here on the MacOS Beta program and using a more up-to-date version of Big Sur? I've been having the same issues as everyone else on the original release, but apparently 11.1.xxx have helped solve this problem with Backup & Sync. However I feel like I've wasted so much time installing and uninstalling this piece of Google software (with the same results as everyone here)!

Wondering if anyone else has more insight?

You say that 11.1 helped, so did you get it working? I'm gonna try it again now that I updated to 11.2 beta
