Yep. Sent the HTC One back to Google yesterday. I tried to love it. I really did. Lol The buttons were really flush and hard to push and the software had lag and stuttered and the apps didn't look and feel as smooth or good to me. I'm talking MINIMAL issues here but I'm picky ;-).

From what I have been hearing, the s4 is actually the better of the two. It has google wallet and the IR blaster actually works. I still ended up sticking with the nexus 4 until the n5 is released. I really would like to see the sales numbers from these phones. I cannot imagine it being much more than a few thousand sold. The "forumers" are the ones interested in these phones and there is little to no buzz about them.

HTC are meant to be adding driver support for the IR in next update, but I wonder why Google Wallet is not on the HTC One - is it again software issue with HTC's NFC ? If so chances are that google will update it sooner rather than later.

Surprised that HTC One is still beating the S4 battery wise for the GE though, but unsurprisingly the S4 really kills the One when it comes to camera.

Part of me wishes the S4 GE was available when I had an S4, undoubtably it would have tipped the balance as it was touchwiz at the end of the day that made me choose the one over the S4.

If I had to buy a phone outright I would get the GE version. I wish it was in black though.

One GE doesn't support AWS HSPA, therefore sits on EDGE, when out of a TMobile PCS HSPA and AWS LTE area. If the phone is sitting on EDGE (which is what usually happens on TMobile), there's your reason why it lasts longer.

I don't get why HTC didn't give the One AWS HSPA support... Best way around this is to buy the TMobile model and flash the GE rom

Strange thing is folks with T-Mobile version who flashed to GE Rom have got AWS support, so is it just the AT&T model the GE is based on doesn't have AWS?

Probably. AT&T doesn't use AWS HSPA in the US. They will use AWS LTE in the future though.

I feel crazy but I'm also debating on picking up another Nexus 4 (third try is the charm?) to hold me off until the 5S and the Nexus5 this fall. Is that crazy? I kind of want to try the S4 GPe too.

So I went to the store to see the S4. That screen.....it's so dim compared to others. I should have known this after having the S3 for a few days last year. I was happy with everything else though. I don't know if I can get used to the screen. I almost would trade LTE for a better screen aka buy a Nexus 4 over a GS4 GE.

The Nexus 4 is an inferior device in every possible way, compared to the GS4.

Did you turn up the brightness? All the way, there is no way it is so dim.

Yeah. It's just AMOLED technology vs LCD. LCD IMO looks a lot brighter with the brightness levels at the same. Maybe I could get used to it if I don't look at phones like the HTC One or iPhone 5 next to it...grrrrr there's always something.

I have a Nexus 4 and S4 and the screen overall is much better on the S4 no doubt about that. I don't really think the S4's screen is dim so I guess I see things differently.

it's not the brightness that bothers me so much as the color accuracy. the nexus 4's colors were slightly washed out but looked fine. the galaxy s4's screen is just awful for me with its super saturated colors and unwhite whites.

Where I really notice it is in the web browser. For example Mac rumors where the background is white. It's not as white on the S4. Maybe that's what I mean by brightness. How is it outdoors in sunlight?

I'm starting to think its the un white whites that bother me. Like you said. I don't know I guess I could possibly get used to it.

So it's now confirmed that the GE phones don't get updates as soon as the Nexus phones. Not even with a simple update life 4.3.

Let's see how long it takes for Samsung and HTC to update their phones, and how long will they do so (how many more updates compared to their skinned versions).

They also didn't announce international availability, which is disappointing.

They could still technically get updated before people with a nexus phone. Google updates in batches based on location. It could take 2 weeks before my n4 gets 4.3 and people with a GE phone could have it by then. I am sure google did not confirm when b.c it relies on the manufactures.

You do know that it is not as simple as you think. The GE phones Google is not the one responsible for keeping them upto date. Difference is those guys more than likely get access to the code earlier before the massive drop. Their is still a lot of files that have to be touch and edited to work on each one of those phones.

Now if they get them updated with in say a month that is which in an acceptable time span. 3 months should be the max for a carrier branded phone.

Yep that was disappointing. Hopefully it won't take too long but that makes me happier with my decision to return the S4 GPE. Impatiently waiting for the Nexus 5 to try again ;-)

We knew they wouldn't get updates the same time as Nexus devices anyway. What's important is how long will it take before the updates come? It should be significantly shorter than the wait for the TW version of the update, at least as far as Samsung is concerned. We all know how terrible HTC is with updates though.

I too was disappointed with the lack of international availability, looks like I'll just have to ROM a standard GS4.
