I hope we get the subscription service, would love to avail of it at the cheaper $7.99 / €7.99 rate.

Do you have the regular Play Music service over there? I don't use it but I just went to the NZ Play Music site and there's advertising for All Access, and it's charged at US$9.99 so there's no markup on it.

So apparently Hangouts doesn't really solve the messaging problem on Android, it basically replaces Google Talk. I think the coolest stuff announced today was the desktop Maps redesign and the conversational Search, everything else was kind of catch up to iOS development. I am interested in Studio...

Alright I'll bite.
Hangouts - catch up
Music - catch up
Maps - cool
Google Now Reminders and whatnot - catch up
Beta testing - neat
IDE - catchup and still in beta and not launching for me. Uninstalled and reinstalled twice >_>

API's
Google Games - catch up and useless to me
Unified notifications - good
Cloud Save - catch up
Google plus stuff - catch up and unnecessary
Geofencing - catch up

The API you mentioned is creepy and if Apple where to implement that they would be sued... I don't like double standards. (I'm assuming it can send info to servers since, I didn't hear about it on the keynote).
It played a lot of catch up today. Insulting me is funny though.

That's the beauty of it all. Tablets are not supported yet. They where talking about tablet support for apps too... SMH

If you don't have a tablet you might have an unsupported device or Android version.

Oh dear kissing Apples butt again. You do realize there keynote will consist of telling us how many people have downloaded apps, and then how many different places around the world they are. Oh and then we will get a spec bump of the iphone design we already. Yea that is some great innovation. I don't think you realize how big the S4 with stock android is. This opens the door for all kinds of android phones. That is innovation not catching up.

The S4 with stock android is not big. I can just go buy a cheaper phone that functions just the same for programming needs. Isn't that what the Nexus 4 was for?

I see you just ignored what I laid out. So it's either you're in denial, or you're the one kissing a certain companies butt. Either way I don't care. I never said it was a bad thing that they are playing catch-up. It's just sad that there's some people out there saying that android is superior to iOS. When you really look at it… No it's not. And this keynote further proves it.

Oh come now BMAC....

Just because someone points out that many of the APIs and features Google release/showed today are already in iOS doesn't mean you need to get defensive. I thought the keynote was great and am excited for where Android is going.

But slapping Vanilla Android on a device that currently exists is NOT innovation....cool and exciting yes, but seriously....we need to stop throwing that word around so cavalierly. Its losing its meaning.

Ok so you want me to go one by one and name how you were wrong?

Hangouts- completely different from iMessage and its cross platform. Something Apple will never be able to say.
Music- last time I checked Apple did not have a music services. Yes there are rumors of it, but Apple has said nothing about it. There may be other music services, but Google is not playing catch up to Apple.
Google now reminders- yea I will give you that one.
Google games- yes Apple has Game Center, but google games is a bit different.
Cloud save- how is that a catch up? Yes iOS has iCloud but cloud save allows you to pick up a saved game from your phone to tablet. Last time I checked my iphone saved game could not be picked up on my ipad.
Google plus "stuff"- I don't recall anything on iPhotos or anything Apple related that groups pictures and picks the best ones. Nor does Apple have retouching of photos that I can recall.

The S4 is way more than just a more expensive nexus device. It shows that google is willing to open the door with stock android, and put it on other phones other than nexus phones. It could mean a lot for android. If other OEMs follow this could be huge.

I will say it again it was not just about slapping stock android on a phone. It means more than that. It means the door is open to OEMs that want to do the same. If HTC decided to do this with the One I would be all over it. I have not purchased the One for that very reason. If I am going to have android I want stock.

I am not being defensive. When someone claims google is playing catch up it needs to be called out. It seems they do not understand what the keynote was all about. It happens all the time. People want new hardware, and when they don't get it. They get disappointed. Just like 2 years ago when everyone thought Apple was going to release the iphone 5, but it was the iPhone 4S. No one cared what else was said just that the iphone 5 was not released.

when using google play all access, can you store the music onto the sd card on your phone? I know they just updated the app recently, not sure if thats included.

that would help immensely, especially with a 64 gb card

It's obvious that you do not have an understanding of it. It's obvious you are not interested in informing yourself, so I think we're done here. Have a nice day.

You clearly don't understand how Hangouts works. You don't need to "re-add" anyone, and you don't need to manage a buddy list at all. You should at least become knowledgeable about an app before you decided to knock it.

You sound just like iGentleman. And yes, you do need to manage a buddy list.

But regardless, we are not here to argue that. I just won't be using it until it properly integrates with SMS. Without that, it is not a properly integrated messaging service.

Step 1 Buy Phone
Step 2 Get Straight Talk (or another MVNO)
Step 3 Get 45$ a month for "unlimited" and save 40 or so $ a month (or more than the cost of the phone over two years)
Step 4 Have more money

Depends on your area I guess. Every non carrier service I have heard or personally used was complete garbage. Dropped calls, very spotty data coverage, people telling me I sound like Im calling from the bottom of a well. No thanks, I'll pay extra to have great coverage, signal and reception.

I agree that SMS integration would be amazing. Supposedly in the works, though I am sure it will be limited strictly to Android (namely due to limitations of iOS, WP, and maybe BB). I am not sure what you mean about needing to manage a buddy list though. It seems to work, and order itself, exactly like the Messages app on an iPhone does. Unless that, too, is considered management, I am truly not following you here.

How is it that when Google announces something its catchup but when Apple announces something its innovation?

Just look at the last 2 iOS updates:

iOS 5
Notification Center - catch up
iCloud - catch up
Wi-Fi Sync - catch up
OTA Updates - catch up
Safari (Offline reading list) - catch up
Safari (Tabbed Browsing) - catch up
Twitter integration - catch up

iOS 6
Apple Maps - catch up
Siri - catch up
Facebook integration - catch up
FaceTime over cellular - catch up
Camera (Panorama) - catch up
Passbook - catch up

I would also like to add that Google beat Apple to the punch in terms of a music streaming service (how is Google playing catch up when Apple hasn't even announced their service?). Also Google continues to leap over Apple with Google Maps and Google Now which Apple has yet to add to OS X.

Because I'm not really biased when it comes to sides. Yes, Google did play catchup in terms of a unified messaging service and their gaming service. The funny thing is this isn't even Android 4.3 or KLP 5.0 which are sure to come.

I think both Apple and Google are preparing their big guns for later this year. This fall will get really hot. Apple seriously needs to step up its game not just with design and UI but services. iWork, Maps, Siri, iCloud, and iTunes have serious problems that need to be addressed. Hopefully Apple does manage to do so.

Some ppl wanted a removable battery, extadcard slot & better hardware with pure Android AOSP experience and they got it with the new S4 GE.

One of the best features is that you can import your ebooks (PDF or epub) into your Google Books account now. Go into Google Play > My Books & import. Now you can import all your epub files & have it in your Google Books collections.

Just did a test import of 12 epubs & it works great.

Here's where I got the article from:

http://www.androidcentral.com/google-play-books-updated-new-design-pdf-and-epub-uploading

I wonder if Apple lets you do that ............... ;-)

How do I Uninstall an app built in? It's a nexus.

I didn't need to uninstall Talks. It did it for me when installing the new Hangout.

If you have TiBu, you can use that to uninstall.

Are you rooted? If not you can't.

If you are, just go to your file manager (I use root explorer) then go to system/apps and long press the talk.apk and delete then reboot your phone and you should be golden.

Make sure you mount system to read/write first or it won't let you. You can also remove a lot of bloat from your device this way.

Ya I think you mistook the keynote. The Google GS4 was probably the least significant part of Google I/O. Altho it's wonderful that they satisfied a consumer base that's been clamoring for a better sourced stock Android device, we're talking about a device that is released w/ a fairly small reach. And really, it's the OEM versions of Android that they are trying to draw you in with, being feature rich and all. Besides, I never thought Google was the ones who were keeping stock Android off OEM devices.

For Hangouts specifically, it is cross platform, but still lacking. It doesn't really solve the multi platform issue as it's still a Google specific service. Also, for PC/Mac it is a Chrome specific app. Unfortunately, I'm not going to use Chrome just to get Hangouts.

I had high aspirations for the All Access Music. But then I just found out it's not available on iOS (I guess you may be able to access it w/in the browser), which is going to be a huge limiting factor IMO.

ya, unless you root you'll just have to wait for the rollout. Same on my Nexus 4. If you look at the Hangouts app, Google left a note that they're slowly rolling it out to you.

Of course iCloud let's you pick up game saves across multiple devices. I personally use this daily. And how is Google games different from Game Center? Achievements, multiplayer, and leader boards are common on both. Well I guess Game Center didn't fail three times while being demo'ed for the first time. Also didn't see where Google games had a challenge mode. Lastly how does iPhoto not have the ability to retouch photos? I'll give you the "pick the best photo from a group" thing though.

Yes I know the whole stock android off an OEM was not googles fault, but you have to look at the big picture here. While this will be a small reach at first. What is to say HTC, and LG don't follow? If that is the case next year we could see all the flagships having an unlocked version that runs stock android. Not having stock android is what is keeping me from getting an OEM phone. I know I have been in a discussion with another poster on another thread, and he has been waiting on a better speced hardware nexus for awhile. Sure this did not mean much for the next couple of months, but look at a year from now.

Hangouts I think is new and they are working on making it even better, but for iOS user to expect Apple to allow google into SMS on the iPhone is crazy. Apple will never let that happen, so you might want to get those dreams out of your head. It may be a google app, but it works for more than just android. Apple has nothing that does that. They refuse to cross platform anything they have. I call that lacking. If google did this you guys would screaming about it.

What did you expect from All access? iOS does not have play music app. Again I don't think Apple is going to allow something that affects their stock apps. I am sure that is why you guys did not have the play music app before. Are you going to complain when Apple introduces their streaming music, but it will be limited to iOS app? No cause that is the platform you use. It does not seem to matter when Apple does not do cross platform, but Google does it that is a no no.

Really I have never had a game I saved on my iPad let me pick up were I left off on my iPad on my phone. Maybe I am wrong, but I have never seen this before.

Yes iPhoto has a retouch and best phone, but does it work behind the scenes for you have it waiting on you? I don't think so. You have to do it all on your own. Google+ now does this for you, and if you don't like how it works you can look at all you originals. I think it is much different than iPhotos.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing reading his posts. Funnier yet, ShadowPuppy's profile starts the same day as iGentleman's last activity, more specifically his first post was created about 30 minutes after iGentleman's last activity on his account---mmmm, just a coincidence? ;)
