I'm tempted to buy a Pixel 2 and try it out for two weeks, comparing it against my iPhone 8. I've heard so many positive reviews of the camera.

According to this article, if you buy the phone through Verizon, you can still use it with another carrier by replacing the Sim. The only difference is the locked boot loader.

https://www.droid-life.com/2017/10/09/which-google-pixel-2-verizon-or-unlocked/

That's 100% accurate. And yes, the camera really is THAT good!

Wait, I am at Verizon's mercy? That is disappointing. The unit I bought feels like a refurb when I paid for a "new other" eBay listed device.

I don't know for sure. I honestly don't know who pushes out the update for the Verizon version. Could very well be Google for all I know. What I'm saying is, regardless, you can sideload the OTA yourself with a computer the day the OTA hits Google's servers

Does Gboard act screwy for anyone else here? Like when you are typing out something and the suggested words pop up and you touch it to select (or finish what you are typing) and the result is mangled or garbled?

Like you'll type out Verizon for example and it's in the suggested words list and you select it and it give you something like "Ververy ion" even though Verizon is proper in the list?

This happens to me on this site and that's it. Not all the time though, but drives me nuts.

I think I am going to ask for a partial refund on my Pixel 2 order because it's missing accessories promised by the listing and it felt like a refurb was sent to me. If not, back to the seller and start over waiting for the next Pixel 2 deal or going with the S9+ when it's cost effective.

Promises included: full manufacturer warranty (2 year expected, only 20 months remaining); USB Type C to headphone jack extension; 18w fast charger from Google.

What I was given was 5w LG charger from Nexus 5X, 20 month warranty, and no USB Type C to headphone jack cable. Also given a refurb quality device.

Day 3 (Second full day) with the new Pixel 2 and this one has been cold as ice the whole time.
Good start. :)

As I've said before - when I say this, things then go wrong so lol if it does now.

Whilst it hasn't ran hot, the battery isn't particularly impressive.
I have 15% left now (which is fine as it's 23:15 here so bed time in a moment) and my SoT is 3h 41min (so lets say 4 hours if I ran to zero).

That's not too bad, but I had 5-6 out of my Kinda Blue before the Feb patch IIRC.

Still, got me through the day without needing the charger once so I'm not complaining! :)

Does anyone else's home screen "redraw" when they press home after being in the multitasking window? When I press home from apps nothing happens. But when I do it from multitasking the home screen is blank for a second and then the icons appear. Oreo bug maybe?

I think I will go return the Pixel 2 because of the seller actually. Maybe Note 8 time.

For any still considering a 2XL, the Google Store is currently offering a $200 bill credit plus an additional charger ($35 value) if you use the Google Store financing.
I have been going back and forth between purchasing a Note 8 or 2XL but the $200 off and extra charger may be enough to push be towards the Pixel.

Wow .Thanks for the heads up. I just bought mine last week and the only promo was $100 credit. I may contact Google and see if they can honor the new deal .

Wish I could take advantage of that but I’m applying for a mortgage right now!

You are definitely making the right choice!
[doublepost=1521385149][/doublepost]Wow this a $200 statement credit .Not a credit to the Google store like I got last week. Google won't let me get the new promotion so I'm definitely returning and getting a new one. Thanks again!!

This makes the pixel $550 less than my iPhone X!!

I was all set on staying with Apple and my iPhone X but a Pixel and a PixelBook would cost me basically what I paid for my iPhone X, AppleCare and some other accessories. Ugh!

Yeah I've done that 3 or 4 times and this time with a totally different account from scratch. If you read my previous posts over the last two pages you'll see I've effectively tried everything :).
Cheers though.

You've never know anyone else have the issue?
When I tweeted Google about my issues they gave me the link to a forum and told me to join the discussion there about it.

And that they were aware of issues and we're looking into it.

https://www.engadget.com/2018/02/16/google-pixel-2-warming-shortened-battery-life/

Most people were, to my knowledge, aware of some users experiencing this problem.
Great for you that you haven't though. :)
I feel like issues like this are to be expected with a Pixel device though, much like the Nexus devices, the Pixel devices strike me as sort of Public Beta Devices for Android OEMs.

Very worrying that a mere Security Update can bring issues like that, this could explain why some OEMs have been cautious with certain months of Security Update releases.

When I start comparing all the beautiful Android phones I can get against the price of an iPhone X I feel a little bit depressed, actually. Because I like iPhones a lot but Apple is making me feel so weird about “the future”. Most people on this site seem to feel so happy and upbeat and content about the $1,000 slab that’s missing a headphone port and Touch ID and costs more than a lot of new mid tier Android phones to repair out of warranty. And I had it and just felt so cheated.

It's thought processes like this that make me want to switch to Android and ditch my iPhone X.

It's true though.
My Pixel 2 was almost half the price of the X.

When you break down which device is better for your personal needs, there probably isn't much between them, and in a lot of cases (for me), the Pixel performs better.

However. I've recently been contemplating smart watches, and finding an Android watch that's in anywhere near the same league as the Apple Watch is basically not going to happen. I have small wrists, and the majority of the decent Android watches are all huge and not my style.

I have contemplated switching back to Apple as the watch will really help when I start my new job in April (hooray for Aneres' new job! :p ).
Thinking about the cost of the X plus Watch is eye watering.

Whereas an 8 (normal size) is now £699 on CPW and that's for the 256gb version. They have the same deal as the Pixel 2 where the larger storage capacity is same price as the entry.
For the cost of that 8, I could be well on my way to the iPhone and Watch again for around the same price of an X.

Much to ponder.

Congrats and that would be a good deal. I looked at something similar here in the States at Best Buy. They had the i8 256gb for $150 off but I couldn't pull the trigger. I gotta have that iX if I'm rolling with Apple.

Yeah I hear you. Part of me isn't too bothered that it wouldn't be the X, it's just whether I want to go all in with Apple.

I love my Pixel so don't want to rock the boat, but there is literally no Android Watch I'm interested in. The Gear S3 Classic looked nice but apparently that's pretty huge too. And works better with Samsung devices I assume.

The reason I've suddenly looked into this is because my new job doesn't allow me to have my phone in the office. It sits outside the office in a locker (close enough for a smart watch to connect no problem) so it would allow me to still read and see my notifications. Which I kinda want.
Phones are not allowed as they have cameras and it's against policy.

If I was just looking to move back to iPhone without a watch, itd always be an X. But because the watch is now being factored in, and with that good deal it's left me wondering.

Congratulations on the new job! I have the exact same dilemma with wearables as you do. I'm small even for a woman. I can wear a small Apple Watch. I have a Samsung watch that does fit but looks big. I just like the Apple Watch anyway. It's great in the pool and reliable and versatile. Given your situation you may even want the LTE model if your watch would have difficulty connecting to your phone at work. I don't know if your company would let your phone connect to your watch over WiFi if you get beyond Bluetooth range. The LTE watch solves that problem. iPhone 8 is a nice phone. I love my 8 Plus. I definitely feel the value for the money with that purchase whereas I felt a bit turned up and shaken down for the coins in my pocket with the X.

It's not so much just the cost of the phone itself. One accident and it could cost the price of a new mid range Android phone to get repaired. As a result, the additional cost to insure it via Apple Care Plus adds so much to the upfront paid-in-full cost of the phone.

All that cost for what, exactly? There is much potential for, it but it's about a year or two away from being fully realized. A lot of the potential for the tech in that notch is tied up in AR. Right now AR isn't widely implemented yet enough to be useful. Like Apple Pay, it will take the time to establish lucrative partnerships and deals to make it more compelling.
