Agreed. FWIW, I saw a gent on Reddit say that he has a V30 and has no screen issues.

Now, a sampling of just one individual means very little. But it's a reminder that like all phone issues, it's not 100% widespread.

Heck, Samsung phones may not have uneven backlighting, but they have had all sorts of crazy color hues this year if I'm not mistaken. I think @GrumpyMom said that she experienced this.

Yeah, my first few S8's (and the S8+) I tried had really bad pink edges, even on the top and bottom. And no changing of the color temperature sliders in settings helped. It was so bad on a total of 3 models I tried that when I went to return them, they were met with shock on how bad the pink edge issue really was. But I did finally get a perfect S8 screen and I never even had to touch any of the color temperature sliders. I feel like my Note 8 screen is perfect albeit the edges may be ever so slightly green if I look at it long enough. But it's not so much so that it bothers me or that I can tell in everyday usage.

You know why this is also a non-issue? You can get your phone and use it for a couple weeks and return it with no financial impact to you (unless you paid for expedited shipping). Yes, the impact is I don't get to have a shiny new Pixel if it turns out to be a dud but there's little financial risk since it's something you can test out easily immediately.

Yeah I have seen a lot of people on other forums that have the V30 and report no boot looping or screen issues. It just goes to show how some want to be the bearer of bad new for phones they don't intend to get.

We have 2 more weeks before we all get our Pixel 2s in our hands!

The LG V30 display issues is not a minor problem. It's becoming a major problem and will most likely affect the Pixel XL 2 as well. This is why Apple went with Samsung, something Google could have fully done. The smaller Pixel 2 has a 1080P Samsung Amoled panel so that may be the way to go.

Some banding has already been seen on the Google Pixel XL 2...It's not bad but could be worse on other devices.

I hope this doesn't come down to the Pixel XL 2 but likely will. I hated playing the screen lottery on my S8, don't want to have to do it again. At least my Note 8 is still stunning!

I have no doubt the camera will be better than the S8, but if it's comparable...

Likewise, I have no doubt the software will feel snappier and be more smooth than the Samsung software, but if it's comparable...

What I'm saying is, the Pixel 2 has a tall hill to climb to get me to move away from the S8. I'm attracted by all the obvious things that make the Pixel a Pixel: the camera, the cleaner software, and the services (updates and unlimited Photos), but at the same time, I'm making big sacrifices to get those features so they have to be noticeably better than the S8.

So is this where I post links to people who DON"T have display issues with there v30?
Cause I'm pretty sure there are more that have no issue than those that have issues.......
Then most do not post on the internet that everything is ok with their device display.
But then those that do have an issue will post and complain about it....so it distorts the actual numbers.....

btw...I have a Note 8 as well and nothing can beat the N8 display
Then it looks like LG got the fingerprint sensor in the right location!

No issues with their V30

I have seen more display issues and less none display issues based on the reddit comments. You can add those up for yourself and notice its more issues than not. I know you rather defend something thats not a great problem to you but their are people actually returning their LG V30 for replacements due to this issue. When you see that, its not right to not put it out there. Even some of the on display units at At&t and verizon in the stores had the issue as well.

Start at 32:40 minutes to see his opinions and he is a pretty honest guy. Furthermore, the Note 8 fingerprint sensor may be in the wrong place for you but aligns perfectly to my index finger and works every time. Even better than the one I had on my S8 plus so thats a none issue for me at least.

Again the issue is not that visible at normal brightness and it can be put up with by many and it may even go unnoticed. At near max brightness its invisible. But once you notice it, your attention will keep being drawn to that area depending on how picky you are about displays. I have issues with yellow tints on LCD displays while some don't find it bothersome but this is something you wont find in many reviews

Hmm, so the supposed screen issue won't be truly be known until real people like forum members get the phone, and actually start using it. Only then we'll know 100% if it's a minor overblown thing for nothing, or a true issue.

Oh..... so then you’re saying through normal use no one will notice if they have the issue or not? Right..... got it. Thanks for clarifying.

That must be why none of the most respected reviewers on the internet notice any issues with their review units.

There is a Google tester on another forum that has had the Pixel 2 XL for a couple of months. He said the XL has no screen issues at all. That the camera is truly amazing and that is all he can say.........

Have you the link to the "Google tester"
thanks.

I think it more an issue for people who have no intention of getting a V30 or Pixel 2.
I think there is a lot of bloggers and YouTube channels that are benefiting from the extra clicks for an issue most will never know that have or not have. The only way people will know is to do something with their phone they would not do during normal everyday use.

This reminds me of another phone I had a few years back where everyone was all bent out of shape about light bleed on the screen. Everyone was running to their closets in pitch black to test out their screens on a pure white background. Through this test people noticed some spots of slightly less light in areas. The thread was filled with pics of these blinding white screens in pitch black closets.

Hahaha :D

Or do you remember the color gamut thing with the iPad mini 2? What a kick!

The issue is exacerbated in the dark when the screen in on low brightness so it depends on what brightness you set your phone at. Under normal conditions which is around 40-50% brightness I think it may go unnoticed but for those extremely picky about displays, they will still notice it.

AndroidPolice did notice banding on the Pixel 2 XL and ArsTechnica also found banding on the V30. We will see how it is once the customers get their hands on this.

He is on the Pixel 2 thread on Android Central.
He really doesn’t want attention but he is not hard to find.
Dude, i'm about to give up on that site for forums. The engine is brutal and crashes constantly.

Also there is a thread saying plastic is "more premium" than glass/metal. Ugh.

I'm not going to lie, it's put me off the XL 2 and the V30 this whole screen thing.
Regardless of whether some have issues and some don't, the issue is very clearly something that can and is happening with these phones, despite actual numbers, so that makes me wary as someone who was potentially very interested in both devices.

I was looking for an excuse outside of the not very nice design of the XL 2 (for my tastes) to make me try a normal sized Pixel 2 first, and I think I've just found it.

Hopefully the issues are not widespread and can be rectified easily in future manufacturing if it proves to be a full fledged problem come the shipping of first batches.

I wonder if those 2 sites only noticed after someone else pointed it out for them?

Every YouTube reviewer I linked in my post praised the display on the V30. Through their testing and review not one mentioned any display issues.

Through normal use I do not think anyone will notice if they have the issue or not.
