I really like the rumors that the Pixel 5 is going to use a mid-range processor. The biggest issues with the last Pixel are batteyr life and cost. The midrange SOC has an onboard modem, which will save space. So hopefully this means Google add a larger battery, lower price since the SOC costs them less, and make small improvements everywhere else like RAM size and speed, camera, etc.

As much as I like the option to get a Google made phone with top level (or close to it ;) ) hardware, I think Google would see so much more success if they just focused on their ‘A’ plaform and make that the default ‘Pixel’. People consider the Pixels great because of their camera and tight user experience, things found on all of their A models. Put everything into properly developing those phones, market them accordingly, make them far more widely available and Google may actually see success with their smart phones.

Agree...would not mind a plastic Pixel 5 either. But it would kill the brand if they went to a mid range SOC and the phone stuttered at all.

Don't think it's possible to get a better feeling plastic phone than the old Galaxy S3. Ah the memories.

When do we think we will see the 4a? I'm itching.

I was tempted by a new 4 from eBay for £450 but I believe that forfeits warranty. Despite the listing saying "full manufacturer warranty", Google wouldn't touch it.

Pretty sure it's expected in May. Depending on the seller, I'm sure they'd help with warranty.

It’s a big risk.

Try contacting Google first to see where your stand. Get the details from the buyer as well. I've sold Pixels and someone made a warranty claim after I gave him my name and email address I used to buy it with.

I did notice the listing says the box may be open to record the IMEI. Which isn't necessary becsuse it's on the outside of the box. I wonder if listings like these are actually returns but look mint.

Sellers and businesses sometimes do this to protect themselves from fraud, especially as eBay is known for, more often than not, siding with the buyer in disputes.

There have been instances when a buyer will purchase a new/mint/working phone from eBay, claim it is not as described or broken upon delivery and then demand a refund. What these fraudsters then do is replace the new or working phone with one that is broken and send this back to the seller. Despite this obvious fraud, eBay will determine the seller has received their phone back and refund the buyer's money. The seller is out of pocket and then in possession of a useless device.

By recording and taking evidence of the IMEI, the seller or business will have a better claim against fraudulent returns.

The IMEI is on the outside of the box, so there's no need to break any seal in order to take note of it.

The seller or business needs to document the condition of the device. They’ll take photos of the actual physical phone including the IMEI and serial number from the “About” section of the general settings.

It’s unfortunate but it’s needed to combat fraudulent returns.

I get you, that makes sense.

So... I'm asking for too much from this thing, I'm sure of it, but I figured out how to get astrophotography mode to work on my XL and, I'm disappointed, maybe because I have a bit of experience with the hobby, or my skies are trash and I have a bit of an idea on how to circumvent some of the light pollution, but I was curious about this mode.

Well, last night err... Early this morning if cleared up some so I figured I'd pull out a tripod, clamp the pixel to it, and try it out thinking, I'd get a little bit more stars in the frame seeing as I was pointing to near the core of the galaxy.

A 3 and a half minute exposure gave me this...

IMG_20200427_003757.jpg

What really got me was the stars that where picked up where out of focus! If it's in astrophotography mode I'd expect it to automatically lock at infinity and these are pretty small sensors anyway.

I think for about the same price, I could have gotten a DSLR, cheap lens, tripod and taken a shorter exposure and got more out of it with a quick edit. Normally a camera will do better picking out more stars then one can see. It probably noise reduced them out.

Probably asking too much but when they push this mode as a feature...

Skies should have been darker. Should have used a tracking mode. ?

Edit: just wanted to share my first experience with astro mode on this thing. Definitely don't seem good for my overly bright skies. And I know I am asking too much of it. Still a decent day camera though ?

Can anyone share what storage size they're using and if 64gb is still manageable?
I have an iPhone 11 Pro with 256GB. I recently did a reset and back-up, and I am using 55GB. 64GB is not quite manageable for me.

I'm making the switch, bagged a Pristine Pixel 4 for £430 delivery with 12 months warranty. I want a smaller phone and battery life isn't an issue for me as I'm a light user.

Has anyone got a regular Pixel 4 that manages to use the phone with average usage with its battery? I really don't want an XL, I like a smaller phone and the Pixel 4 looks ideal, except the battery which a lot of users report not being able to make it through the day.

Trying to decide if I should cancel my order if I'm going to have to charge through the day.

Never had to charge through the day, use my phone a lot but never looked at battery usage or screen time as i really don't care as long as it lasts me the day. Mainly use it for social media, whatsapp and youtube.

Perfect, that's what I've found. Most of those slating the battery are heavy users.

Back on the Pixel 4 XL for a while. I have such a weird love/hate relationship with this phone. The software experience is the best on any phone IMO. But the hardware feels substantially worse than my S20 Plus. The Pixel feels heavier, bulkier, and less refined. It honestly feels like a phone from 2018. And then you get into the software and despite the specs it is buttery smooth, everything feels polished, animations are great, camera opens fast and shutter speed is instant.

I hate to keep repeating myself, but if they would just improve hardware a little it would be great. And to an even further degree, if they were to release Pixel Software on S20 hardware, I would give them all the money.

I may be dreaming this but didn't Samsung ship a phone not too long ago that had stock Android on it? Something tells me they did but I could be making it up ?

As for animations. Have you sped them up at all in the developer options? Makes the already snappy phone seem even snappier.

They did...nearly 7 years ago in the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition. So, it’s been a little while. ;)
