I’m typically right there with you (about symmetry) but I’ll take function over form, in this specific case, the added sensors needed for secure, fast facial recognition. And this is a marked improvement over the Pixel 3XL’s bucket sized notch.

I realize I’m likely in the minority here with this opinion but I’m not one who is obsessed with a completely bezel-less design, especially when it involves compromises in function. I’ll take this over a mechanical pop up camera, a notch or hole punch if the added function is worthwhile. I like FaceID on the iPhone better than a fingerprint sensor, even if it is under the screen, so if Google’s implementation is as good, I’ll take some forehead to accommodate it.
Yeah I might have preferred it if they had followed the approach Asus are taking with the ROG II phone and at least made the bezels symmetrical with added speaker quality as a nifty bonus, but...

...you know what, with the current trends where everyone is jumping through one hoop after the other to come up with ever smaller bezels at the cost of 1001 irritating design decisions, be it notches or hole punches or transparent bezel aka curved screen...I'm actually digging how Google seem to be going kind of stubborn grandpa with the Pixel 4 :D

"'Extra screen real estate?' Boy, I had to hold up a 2 kg bakelite funnel to my ear when I wanted to get on the horn with your grandma and ask her out to the dances, and there wasn't no screen at all on that doggone thing! So don't you "extra screen real estate" me with your prissy notches or curves or any of that useless devilry! What we need here is a good, solid bezel and nothing less. And I won't hear of it again!"

I honestly think it would have looked better if they had have kept the screen 'straight'.
So not tried to curve it round with the bezel. I think that makes it look worse.

I personally don't care about bezels. My Note 10 has none, and I love it, but the Pixel 3's were chunky for 2019 and I'd use that phone all day every day no problem.

I am more interested to see what colours they come up with this year. I like the pastel shades over the blue of the OG. Hoping they continue that trend.

I'm a sucker for the round edges, it reminds me of the Palm Pre days!

Agree on the colors. I always go conservative in the end, but almost went purplish when I picked up the 3a.

I'm pretty disappointed that they really are just going with a plain glass back instead of the soft touch of the current pixels as it just feels so nice.

Otherwise meh I guess. Certainly doesn't look great and IMO solei won't be worth having such a big bezel (hopefully I'm proven wrong here). Every year I want to be excited with the hardware on the pixel and so far have been disappointed :/

Really hate the look of this phone, but also very interested in seeing what they do with an extra camera.

He must have massive hands. Even if it’s the smaller 4, it looks tiny!

Pixel 4 is the only device that I'm even slightly interested in.

I want a stock Android device that has a flat screen and is a reasonable size. I'd be willing to go up to maybe 151 mm -- the size of the Note 10 and iPhone XR. But even Note 10 and iPhone XR are considered budget devices and have reduced specs.

Every new device with a stock experience is close to or even over 160 mm, which to me is way too tall.

Considering that, Pixel 4 seems to be all I've got to choose from.

Same here. However I'm struggling with how I will be able to justify one as camera quality is a diminishing competative davantage. Sure there are situations when the Pixel 3 really shines over competitors but overall, on Facebook or Instagram, it's nearly impossible to tell whether a photo has been shot with an iPhone Xs, Pixel 2, One Plus 7 Pro or Samsung S10.

Basically there are no crap cameras phones and the majority of phone from £300+ are good enough.

Last week I dusted off my DSLR for the first time in months to shot my son and my cars. The clarity when shooting objects within 2-3 meters is astounding. Fingers crossed the extra lens on the Pixel 4 will produce DSLR like clarity for portraits and objects.

If not, then I will stick with my Pixel 2 XL for another year as a £900-1,200 outlay for a H2 2019 phone isn't worth it for an incremental camera update.

Wonder if the release will be sooner than the typical Oct / Nov timeframe?

I think things are basically on track for the normal October launch. Pixel 4 just showed up in the FCC database yesterday. Pixel 3 showed up around the same time last year.

Invites to the Pixel 3 event were sent out on September 6 last year for the October event.

I like almost everything about the Pixel 4 except for the battery size. Unless Google have made some breakthroughs in battery usage, I cant see the battery life being anything but terrible in a 90 hz display that big. The OP 7 Pro had pretty average battery life with a battery that is 300mah larger.

My biggest complaint about the Pixel 3 XL was battery life.....
I really hope the P4 battery life is better.

Same. In comparison to similar usage on my XS Max, both usage and standby time are noticeably worse on my Pixel 3 XL.

Won't be happy if it is a slippy glossy glass back.
I love the two tone matte and gloss and think it's become the most recognisable design feature of their current devices. To see that go in place of a gloss back like every single other phone on the market currently would be s real shame.

can it be October already? Can't wait for the Pixel 4 release.
Last year the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL were officially announced on October 9 and then released on October 18, 2018

I'm really missing it on the versions we see in the leaked vids. The two tone design made it immediately identifiable as a Pixel and didn't feel dated at all yet imo.
