I ended up cracking the screen (both front and back) of my iPhone 8 Plus (I dropped it on pavement), so I’ll definitely be getting a new phone this year since I did not buy AppleCare. I lasted almost two years with this phone with no issues :(. It’ll be between an iPhone and the 4 XL in November then. I would consider a OnePlus, but I really don’t feel comfortable with owning a Chinese phone, no matter how great it is.

Isn't Foxconn in China? The manufacturer who makes iPhone's is Chinese .

At this point all phones listening on you be it Apple or Google they know exactly what you're doing what you're saying. I doubt OnePlus is super bad and secretly stealing your identity, anymore than Apple and Google already are doing to us, but in ways we can't track.

Yes, Apple’s manufacturer is Foxconn, which is based in China. But iPhones are manufactured in China, not developed there from the ground-up. iPhones don’t run Chinese software.

Foxconn assembles iPhones but they are developed by Apple in the US. And they do not run some variant of Android that reports everything back to the Chinese government. Also I do not believe Apple listens in on everything we say. Please provide proof or quit telling that lie.

It is worrisome that OnePlus runs Chinese software, but is there any proof that it reports everything back to the Chinese government? I know that OnePlus does have a history of shady issues.

I trust One Plus, but only One Plus. I have to believe that the FCC, T-Mobile, Verizon have done their due diligence in supporting this device and allowing it here in America to be "officially" supported.

Huawei however, not on your life. Pixel 4 and OP7P only two android phones I could see giving a legitimate shot.

You're in the wrong place with that attitude.

After all, Apple was just caught listening to Siri queries.

I think a more valid concern is China could subpoena whatever data OnePlus happens to have. Whatever you think of data management and who listens to what, OnePlus data is Chinese data. I don't believe they collect that much and I'm not sure they funnel directly into the government but it's China and their administration can take any data they have without any questions asked.

OnePlus has done some shady things in the past, but I'm not (yet) worried about them divulging any info to the Chinese government. Much of the shadiness involved marketing, misleading about certain specs, cheating in benchmarks, etc...they also had issues with harvesting user data and were hacked I think last year (or 2017 ?). They are owned by OPPO, both underneath BBK, which is a giant privately owned company and not state owned. I suppose the government could get involved and demand data / info at any time, who knows. The OP7 Pro is the best phone of 2019 so far, until the Pixel 4 arrives (and hopefully doesn't disappoint) I am going to continue to enjoy it and take my chances :) .

Can’t wait for their keynote. However 64Gb and 128 GB with no expansion ability is really stingy, along with those battery specs. I’ll probably upgrade to this but I’m gonna look for a really sweet trade in offer or a good sale.

Let me know if you find a really sweet trade in offer.

In china, there is nothing like “privately owned”

I completely understand not wanting the Chinese government (or any for that matter) having your data. But one has to ask themselves, why do I think I'm important enough that China would actually look at or do anything with my data that will ever effect me?

I actually got a nice letter from China telling me my kids are cute, so I would look at compliments as an advantage to them having my data.

Rumours circling that the Pixel 4 may have 20x zoom, if that's the case Samsung, Apple and others seriously have to up their game next year otherwise companies like Huawei and even Google may leave them behind.

Samsung have become complacent in my opinion and not upgraded their cameras enough this year but I know a substantial upgrade is coming on the S11 so we will wait and see............
dunno rumours are apple will have outdone themselves this year camera wise...will see though i guess.

The rumour about the Pixel 4 having a 20x zoom is false. It came from a picture that has since been confirmed it came from a 3a using purely digital zoom. Interested to see just how much optical and possibly hybrid zoom it will actually have.

I know this isn't important to some, but I absolutely cannot stand when things aren't symmetrical. I also realize that looks don't mean everything, but yikes.

I’m typically right there with you (about symmetry) but I’ll take function over form, in this specific case, the added sensors needed for secure, fast facial recognition. And this is a marked improvement over the Pixel 3XL’s bucket sized notch.

I realize I’m likely in the minority here with this opinion but I’m not one who is obsessed with a completely bezel-less design, especially when it involves compromises in function. I’ll take this over a mechanical pop up camera, a notch or hole punch if the added function is worthwhile. I like FaceID on the iPhone better than a fingerprint sensor, even if it is under the screen, so if Google’s implementation is as good, I’ll take some forehead to accommodate it.

Totally get that. I just have a thing about symmetry in general. OCD. Lol

I saw those leaked pictures last night, it's definitely not going to win any design awards that's for sure you only buy the Pixel for the camera and stock vanilla Android.

The forehead bezel looks like something from 2017, not what a brand new next generation smartphone should be.
