I've read on XDA guys getting great battery life on 7 Pros, like easily 6+hrs Screen On Time, more like 7h to 8h with the right settings. I can't get anywhere near that on my 3 X, and was hoping the 4 XL would see a huger improvement in battery life, yeah the SD855 is more efficient, that helps, but also a large battery always helps too.
6 hours has been my norm on the 7 Pro I think. A couple days ago when I checked I was at 3 hours screen time at 60% battery. My issue with the battery has been idle / standby drain. I'm losing 10% overnight when I don't check the phone for 8-9 hours. My Pixel 3a behaves the same way, iPhone really is the gold standard for standby battery drain (or lack thereof).

I still think that the smaller Pixel 4 battery will be insufficient if these specs hold true. I'd still get the phone if everything else about it is A+. My experience with the 3a has been so much better than my old 3 / 3XL. Auto brightness works out of the box, to name one feature that always plagued my Pixels. There is no static or chirping or any noise at all during phone calls in the earpiece speaker. Every bug I experienced in older Pixels has not been present on the 3a. Hopefully this bodes well for QC with the 4 / 4XL.

You can indeed switch to 60 HZ if you want.
Thanks! So probably could do the same with the Pixels and use less battery.
The other thing is the Pixel 3XL has a 18.5:9 aspect ratio and the OP7 Pro is 19.5:9,
so that changes the area of a screen even if they both have the same diagonal measurement.
Not sure what aspect ratio the Pixel 4XL will have.
Not into math so not sure how much difference this would make, lol.

Very disappointing if true but the Note or any Samsung for that matter will never intrigue me. That UI is ugly, their support is terrible for minimal major Android updates, and I am just not a fan of their design and constant curved screen addiction.

The OP7 has the curved screen as well but that 90hz is mesmerizing and I get fantastic battery life as a heavy user and the Warp charging is insanely good.

With the flop of the Note 10 and nothing earth shattering for a $1100 phone and an ugly hole in the middle of the screen, the Pixel 4 now becomes the what to watch for the rest of the year to see if the OP7 is unseated.

It’s amazing how Samsung’s UI consistently becomes uglier and uglier. I couldn’t imagine starting at One UI throughout the day.

Its like a Fisher Price overlay on what they would put on a kids cell phone.

I know this is all subjective but easily my least favorite UI of all the big boys in the Android field.

It’s even uglier than iOS. It’s genuinely hideous. Oxygen OS is sophisticated and mature in comparison.

Welp just pre-ordered the note 10. There are too many compromises I am not willing to make here.

Pixel 3aXL goes to girlfriend, s10+ gets sold off.

I will buy a pixel 4 down the road. The resale is atrocious on them. Pixel 3xl is now a $350-400 phone on swappa

I don't understand why Google continues to make questionable spec decisions.

Makes no sense.
Me neither.
I think it's in part a way to say their OS is streamlined and efficient.
Therefore, they don't need excessive hardware or battery to compensate for a poor OS design.
We all know this is BS though, that their OS can't operate smoothly with current hardware.
Especially after they introduced the "A" models, you would have thought they would strive to
pack the regular line with better specifications.

Every year my biggest disappointment with the Pixel line is the battery life. Looks like this year won't be any different. I'll hold out hope for now.

When I had a 7 pro I'd get 8-10 hours SoT with 90hz but the battery is also larger.

That is my biggest complaint about the Pixel 3XL....battery life.

Google doesn't have to win the spec war with the Pixel line. They already provide a great all around user experience. But part of that is not having to charge the phone during the day just to get by.....

My only hope with the Pixel and decent battery life is if the 90Hz is variable and automatically scales down to 60Hz for apps that cant use it. That would at least give me some hope that the battery can get through a day.

Because incremental upgrades bring in more money... Keeps many on an annual update cycle. Also there is not much else to do with a smart phone, every one of them do the same basic tasks.

We really seem to be at a saturation point with features in the smartphone space. There really isn't much more they can do now. They can just improve on some basic functions but other than that......I don't see a lot of innovation left?

The next logical step is to start adding back features that were removed. I suspect that in a couple years the headphone jack will be an upgrade. :p Kind of like how Samsung significantly reduced the PPI on the Note10. They'll probably bump it up in a year or two and call it an upgrade.

I agree. I really don't like this One UI update on my S8. Oxygen OS is great, and Google does seem to be slowly going in the same direction as Oxygen OS, like adding accent colors. I just wish we had more hardware choices for stock Android. I really wish that Android One could be more than just budget devices.

I wonder if the 90Hz screen will be a Samsung screen. I looked at the Note10 today, and even though it's PPI is lower than that of the Pixel 3, the screen looked much better on the Note10. It seems to me that the LG screen just doesn't match Samsung, at least with last year's tech.

Rumours circling that the Pixel 4 may have 20x zoom, if that's the case Samsung, Apple and others seriously have to up their game next year otherwise companies like Huawei and even Google may leave them behind.

Samsung have become complacent in my opinion and not upgraded their cameras enough this year but I know a substantial upgrade is coming on the S11 so we will wait and see............

Any links for these 20x rumours? First I've heard of that much. Would need a good optical zoom to get decent 20x hybrid results.
