I’m fine with the dated bezels. It shows they can’t be bothered to obsess over the little things like the competition, though. But if the specs and performance and features are solid... I can overlook that.
But the hits keep coming. Gorilla glass 5, not 6. UFS 2.1 not UFS 3.0. Reduced battery capacity in the small pixel 4.
Downgraded the selfie camera to one.
Display brightness still an issue.
I’ve never used a display with the fast refresh rate so I don’t understand why it’s a big deal. That is something I am interested in trying. But right now I’m not getting the excitement over it.
If astrophotography can come to the 3 XL then I may quit my Pixel 4 aspirations altogether, because even with Google, my 3XL has lost too much value. It’s near worthless as a trade in considering how astonishingly expensive the new one I would want is.
They catch the eye with the *$400 max trade in value. You’d think that would be for the maxed out version of their own flagship. But apparently not. I don’t know which phone it is for.
I do like Google fabric cases. I like them better on the smaller phones so far. But I am fine with them overall.
So many good points here.
I agree the bezels are fine, but I am a bit concerned that Google is far less interested in keeping up with the big guys on the design front.
I don't know anything about glass specification, but which does iPhone 11/Pro have? Do we know? I guess my point is I care a bit but ultimately it doesn't bother me. The battery is definitely concerning on the little guy.
The selfie camera situation is just weird. Most R&D companies have a roadmap that can tell them "Hey, whatever we do, we aren't going to have room for a wide angle selfie cam so maybe don't include it this time?
Display brightness is something you take for granted on a Galaxy or iPhone until you move to a Pixel.
Refresh rate is a big deal, but the brightness problems makes me less than enthused. I would probably prefer a brighter screen with lower refresh.
The sky stuff is super cool. It's exciting what this camera can do, but I have yet to actually consider taking a picture of the stars.
The value of the phone is just horrible. Demand for Pixels is so low, you really feel the hit of the depreciation. That was definitely something I did not foresee but I probably should have seen that coming.

Woof, what a flop. That design, the lack of ultra wide, gimmicky swipes and crap, and techies already saying the screen isn’t as bright as Samsung or iPhone at this point.
Disappointing to say the least.
Will take another look when it’s $500-$600 in a month or 2. Google continues to swing and miss on hardware.
I wouldn't call it a flop necessarily, but yeah, it's about $300 too expensive depending on the model.
A 128 GB iPhone 11 is just such a compelling device which takes the fight directly to both these models.
