I think with Pixels, it's much better to use one for a few days to see if it's for you. Rather than going off a spec sheet and the assumption that battery life will be terrible due to the 90hz screen. I still think a 4a down the line will be a better buy.

Man, I’m sorry we’re all destroying this phone as you’re excited for it. Lol. I’m sure the user experience is going to be great.
The thing is, I don’t think anyone here thinks it will be a bad phone. I’m sure the user experience will be great. The issue is the features, performance, and specs when compared with phones in the same price. The Pixel 4 is just lagging behind the competition. When the price drops a couple hundred and the phone is priced more where it should be, it’ll be a great value.

For me the Pixel line has never been about specs. It has always been about the user experience. The Pixel line has a very unique blend of hardware and software designed to provide a great user experience.
I get that it doesn't have the specs some phones have and wish it had a bigger battery.
But I find the Pixel 4 so far seems to have the most technology in a smartphone.
The price is the same as last year right? Then I'm sure there will be some great price drops for Black Friday or on Google Fi coming soon.

My wife has a Pixel 2 XL and was holding out for the Pixel 4, but isn't impressed. Sees now looking at the iPhone 11, it'll be interesting to watch her decision process.
Fair or not, you bring up a very good point. The Pixel 4 timing just isn't good for a device that basically looks like an Android facsimile of the much cheaper iPhone 11. The huge improvements of the (non-pro) iPhone 11 make it a compelling option and it compares extremely well to the Pixel 4.

It's going to be a great phone and the software is going to be magic. However, it simply has been punked by all the other phones on the market right now. Pixel 4 XL definitely qualifies as a two year phone, but I would save a boatload of money and go with the iPhone 11 for significantly less money.

I have the 11 Pro max and will do a comparison between the overall user experience of the 2 phones....
It will be interesting and fun. The 11 pro max is my daily driver and it will be interesting to see if the Pixel 4 XL can dethrone it.......

I'm interested to hear your impressions. The fit and finish just isn't quite Apple or Samsung quality most of the time.

Biggest gripe is usually the screen dimming, which was a mess on my last two pixels.

I’m fine with the dated bezels. It shows they can’t be bothered to obsess over the little things like the competition, though. But if the specs and performance and features are solid... I can overlook that.

But the hits keep coming. Gorilla glass 5, not 6. UFS 2.1 not UFS 3.0. Reduced battery capacity in the small pixel 4.

Downgraded the selfie camera to one.

Display brightness still an issue.

I’ve never used a display with the fast refresh rate so I don’t understand why it’s a big deal. That is something I am interested in trying. But right now I’m not getting the excitement over it.

If astrophotography can come to the 3 XL then I may quit my Pixel 4 aspirations altogether, because even with Google, my 3XL has lost too much value. It’s near worthless as a trade in considering how astonishingly expensive the new one I would want is.

They catch the eye with the *$400 max trade in value. You’d think that would be for the maxed out version of their own flagship. But apparently not. I don’t know which phone it is for.

I do like Google fabric cases. I like them better on the smaller phones so far. But I am fine with them overall.

Woof, what a flop. That design, the lack of ultra wide, gimmicky swipes and crap, and techies already saying the screen isn’t as bright as Samsung or iPhone at this point.
Disappointing to say the least.
Will take another look when it’s $500-$600 in a month or 2. Google continues to swing and miss on hardware.

So many good points here.

I agree the bezels are fine, but I am a bit concerned that Google is far less interested in keeping up with the big guys on the design front.

I don't know anything about glass specification, but which does iPhone 11/Pro have? Do we know? I guess my point is I care a bit but ultimately it doesn't bother me. The battery is definitely concerning on the little guy.

The selfie camera situation is just weird. Most R&D companies have a roadmap that can tell them "Hey, whatever we do, we aren't going to have room for a wide angle selfie cam so maybe don't include it this time?

Display brightness is something you take for granted on a Galaxy or iPhone until you move to a Pixel.

Refresh rate is a big deal, but the brightness problems makes me less than enthused. I would probably prefer a brighter screen with lower refresh.

The sky stuff is super cool. It's exciting what this camera can do, but I have yet to actually consider taking a picture of the stars.

The value of the phone is just horrible. Demand for Pixels is so low, you really feel the hit of the depreciation. That was definitely something I did not foresee but I probably should have seen that coming.

I wouldn't call it a flop necessarily, but yeah, it's about $300 too expensive depending on the model.

A 128 GB iPhone 11 is just such a compelling device which takes the fight directly to both these models.

I feel like one thing that people are overlooking is the smaller Pixel 4 is the only offering with a flat 90Hz screen, stock Android, and a great camera in a normal-size device. Some of us actually prefer a device that is around 147mm and won't consider something that is at or over 160mm.

That's a good point. Hopefully the Pixel 4 is actually viable because that battery is really small.

When is she planning on buying? Right now the iPhone hardware is really good and worth every penny in my opinion, but my goodness iOS and Mac OS have some bugs. It reminds me so much of how things went when I got my iPhone 7 Plus and the weeks following the iOS updates that permanently messed up that beautiful phone for me. Those are not fond memories. I’m hoping in another couple of weeks they will have the really bad email ones stamped out.

Otherwise it may be worth considering the Pixel 4 despite the shortcomings, assuming there are no serious hardware bugs plaguing the release.

Battery life is easily one of, if not the most important feature on a smartphone. A dead phone is as good as a brick to use. I have to give Apple major props for stuffing in HUGE sized batteries into their new 11 Pro's, good for them, and it shows. Peopel are so excited that the iPhone 11 Pro Max for example can go 2 days, and easily one day with extreme heavy use. I wish the Pixel 4 could do that too. Why not want that?

And spec's aren't the biggest thing, but, for $900+, I want the best, so give it 8GB RAM, SD855+, 256GB size, ditch the radar crap and give us a full screen display without a giant forehead.

Have you had iOS bugs? My husband says he hasn’t noticed any on his pro Max. The kids and I on different generations of iPhones have some with iMessage and emails. I started fresh with a clean install and very few 3rd party apps. Just wondering. A lot of forum members have run across the same bugs we have. A lot haven’t. I’m pretty mystified.

I think she has decided to stick with her Pixel 2 XL and maybe grab a Pixel 4 when they are much cheaper. I suspect they will be a good buy with a nice discount or as a pristine 2nd hand purchase in 6 months time.

The more I think about it, what bothers me about the Pixel is that Google are starting to do the same things I hated Apple for doing. They're ignoring their customers and basically saying, we know what you want better than you know.

If you look at Google vs Apple from last years devices to this year, Apple looked at their weaknesses and addressed them. Apple realized that their cameras and battery were two of the biggest complaints and they made them the focus of the iphone 11. Google, on the other hand, just added to their strengths and ignored their weaknesses. They doubled down on making an already great camera even better and focused on Project Soli so they could get users to beta test their new tech. Instead they should have focused on their weaknesses like RAM management, battery life, and form factor/hardware. Id argue that if you took the Pixel 3 XL, made it more full screen (no notch), bumped RAM up to 8gb like rival devices, added a second rear camera, and increased battery size it would be a great device on par with the competition.

Google just seem out of touch with what their customers want. And maybe they dont care and want to continue with the mindset of we dont care what they want because we know what they need. But it just seems like they'll continue to fail if thats their mindset.

I keep hearing about bug on iOS 13 and the new iphones but I've had zero problems with my Pro Max.

I haven't had any bugs per se except app refresh. You would think with the extra ram the iPhone 11 has app refresh wouldn't be an issue anymore.

My initial reaction was "meh" but having thought about it: is this Googles iphone?

Top of class screen
Top of the class camera
Top of the class assistant
Fastest secure face unlock

I actually like the look of the build. Forehead is necessary to house the sensors and they decided to not have a notch. If you can get past that I think this probably every bit as good as the iphone. Maybe better with the onboard assistant.

Battery life is a concern but it has fast charge.

It's also a shame Google haven't made a smart watch to compliment the phone.

I was shocked when they said they Buds would be available in the Spring. That’s a long time. Spring ends in June 2020 so Google could very well wait until the very last week.
And what do you know, they don't even include a wired headset with the phone. :D Pixel fans are really glutton for punishment.

LOL. Gee, where have I heard that before.... Oh yeah, the Apple fanboys.

I'm curious what exactly your problem is with someone looking forward to a phone from a line they clearly like? I'm using a 3a XL, not a hint of it being buggy. If it was, I'd be honest about it.
