The difference might just be that one phone is 2 years older.

My 4 XL destroys my one year old Pixel 3 XL as well. That phone only got like 5.5h SoT, my 4 XL gets like 7.5h to 8h SoT.

Reading XDA and [H]ard Forums people also reporting crazy good battery life on their Pixel 4 XL, most getting over 7h SoT to 8h SoT.

I thought the high screen on times were surprising to I looked on xda. A lot of the people who are reporting the excellent screen on time also casually mention they have AOD disabled, or motion sense disabled, etc. It’s hard to get a reading on this as SOTs for this phone are all over the map.

i have owned the last 3 Pixel phones, and for battery life, I'd rate them this way;

#1 = Pixel 4 XL - Average of 7h SoT
#2 = Pixel 2 XL - Average of 6h SoT
#3 = Pixel 3 XL - Average of 5.5h SoT

And this isn't down to 0% battery life, I've always taken this info when my battery saver kicks on in the red below 10%. So they all get another 5% to 9% better than the SoT I posted

I do have AoD off on my Pixel 4 XL.

Yeah, we're on the same page here ?

My point, the Pixel 4 XL is the battery champ of all Pixel phones ever made. Yeah it's no iPhone 11 Pro Max battery, ( I don't own that phone but I hear it gets equivalent to like 9h to 10h hours SoT, which is insanely good, top of the food chain ) but the 4 XL still gets very respectable battery life, that will easily last a solid day, from early morning to late at night with no charging needed in-between.

I'd be curious to see how your battery life is impacted by turning on things you have off. AOD for example. That's a pretty important feature for many people and they can't or won't turn it off.

I know it's not a flagship but my 3a XL gets at least 8 and usually 9-10. Which is by far the best of any Pixel for battery life. Only ever so slightly slower in performance than the 4XL.

Do you use dark mode?

Yes I use dark mode.

All I can say is I've owned this Pixel 4 XL for about 10 days and I've never once had to charge it midday. I unplug it from the charger in the morning and don't have to charge again until bedtime or even the next morning, it easily lasts me all day and night no problem.

Sure we can get caught up on all these SOT times this or that. all I wanted was a stock Android phone that would give me better battery life than my Pixel 3 XL which only gave me about 5.5h to 6h SoT and by evening I would have to charge it a bit more if I wanted to use it all night.

This Pixel 4 XL absolutely gets significantly better battery life than my 3 XL That's all I wanted and I'm happy

The 3a XL was great for the price. The speed difference is something you dont even notice after a day of using it. Only downsides I really noticed were the same poor RAM management as the Pixel 3 and lack of wireless charging. Oh and 64 gb is just not enough onboard storage.

Not much change from the Pixel 3, in terms of idle drain unfortunately.
This is the one area I wanted them to improve in on this device but alas, not to be.

Less than an hour screen on time and the battery is almost halfway down.
It's just unacceptable really.

Sigh. Think I'll return it. It's a shame, as I've had my sim in this Pixel 4 for two days now and it's great to actually use. But I'm not dealing with this battery. Fine for it to be a small battery, the Sony Xperia line always have smaller batteries, but they don't drain like a Pixel.

I thought we narrowed your battery drain down to that metal locker you lock them in at work?

Just kidding! Battery is my biggest complaint about my P4XL as well.

How does overall battery life / SOT compare to Pixel 3? Your screenshot looks to be about the same as I get with my S8. Granted my S8 is two years old, but I don't recall it being much better when it was new.

I get less than 3 hours SOT with my S8, so as long as it isn't a downgrade from my S8 I'd be able to accept it, as I'd never go over 3 hours SOT during the daytime anyway.

Well you'll be ok with the Pixel 4 then as generally I average around 4 hours screen on time. Sometimes less though.

My drain overnight was like 2% as well.

Gotta say this Pixel 4 XL has outstanding battery life. One of the best battery phones I've owned in years. Right now I unplugged at 7:00am with full 100% charge, it is now 3:00pm and battery at 83% showing 1h 53m SoT.

The Pixel 4 XL battery life isn't similar to the 2 XL, it's SIGNIFICANTLY better.

My wife has the 2 XL, she's a light user, comes home in evening with like 30% battery left. My Pixel 4 XL in evening I have like 55% battery left.

I'll unplug with full charge at 7:00am, and put on the charger at 11:00pm, and the past week I been having like 50%+ battery left. I'm averaging like 7h+ SoT. This 4 XL is almost a 2 day phone between charges.
For your usage perhaps, but all reviews point to this phone having below average battery life in comparison to the competition and it makes sense considering the small battery size in comparison to say a note 10+
Im glad it is better then the Pixel XL 3 in this regard anyway and it's good to see people enjoying the device.

It's annoying really as I am enjoying using this phone a lot. There's just something about a Pixel device that I can't quite put my finger on, but they never fail to draw me in.

Maybe I could try an XL and see how it treats me. But I don't think id get the same enjoyment in every day use.

If you’re not using Google‘s Preferred Care insurance, what insurance do you have for your Pixel and how is it?

Now my Google Now feed isn't working in a swipe left...

Screenshot_20191031-225843.png

Just a blank screen.

And typing into the search bar on my home screen isn't doing anything either. No real time search suggestion and nothing when I hit enter...

iOS 13 has had some bugs but the odd camera crash I can cope with. This is just annoying. I used the assistant to set a timer before and it just took me to the clock app and didn't actually do anything.

Ahh the Pixel charm.
