2 people having faulty batteries? Must be some really bad QC at Google then.

Poor product and showing from Google this year.
Must be a major problem then, 2 units.

The 4XL is a good phone, no doubt about it. But you only like to pour scorn on the Pixel, the only reason you post in this thread. Have a nice day!

Just posting the real life poor results of the Pixel 4XL here. The phone isn’t performing well at all. Have a better day while the battery lasts.

The Pixel 4 XL only getting 3h SoT, sounds very strange and not at all normal. Maybe the small 4 gets that, but not the 4 XL.

I read XDA and [H]ard Forums, and no one had reported that. Most say they getting worse case 5.5h to 6h, to majority seeing 7h+ SoT, on the 4 XL.

On the regular Pixel 4? 7h+ SOT?

Not much change from the Pixel 3, in terms of idle drain unfortunately.
This is the one area I wanted them to improve in on this device but alas, not to be.

Less than an hour screen on time and the battery is almost halfway down.
It's just unacceptable really.

Sigh. Think I'll return it. It's a shame, as I've had my sim in this Pixel 4 for two days now and it's great to actually use. But I'm not dealing with this battery. Fine for it to be a small battery, the Sony Xperia line always have smaller batteries, but they don't drain like a Pixel.
Have you tried turning adaptive battery on?

Obviously faulty units then. The 4XL battery isn’t bad at all.
I would says it more to do with usage habits. Just because you can get a certain SOT with your usage patterns it does not mean everyone will. There are so many variables. Going off the battery size i would say it's completely feasible, make no mistake it's a small battery and there is only so much software optimization can do.

I'm not comparing to mine. 3 hours from a 3700 battery isn't right, no matter what you do with it.

Yeah it's on by default.
I'm going to try using battery saver today when it is in the locker to see if that will stop the idle drain. I could turn the AoD off also, as it's not something I actually need to be active for 8+ hours when it's not on my desk in front of me.

It's just annoying having to go into settings to do it / remembering to do it, but I'll try it today and get a gauge on the effect.

No worries, just adaptive battery was showing as off in your pic.

You can leave AOD on just flip the phone on it's face and the screen will automatically turn off to save battery.

Just broke my own record... 8hrs + Sot
Mostly indoor with 30 mins outside on lte with smooth display off, Aod on, motion sense on except for skipping tracks.
I live next to a tower, so that must help and calls come thru wifi calling. Brightness was around 50-60%. This little test was conducted in a ideal condition. This is NOT everyday's life! But it's still nice to see how far this battery can go.

Why not just turn it off if you're going to leave it on it's face anyway?
Because it's one less step to do. Why go in the settings turn it off when you could flip the phone?
Then when you flip it back its there available for you instead of going back in the settings and turn it back on... Get it?

Because if you want to quickly check for notifications,

There won't be a quick check for notifications, as the phone is locked inside a locker. Keeping face down is a better option, as that will save time changing the setting before and after locker usage. Net-Net, keeping it face down > Changing setting before and after.

If Aneres11 puts his phone in Battery Saver mode it will deactivate the "Always on" display as part of the battery saving measures, so, you don't need to flip the phone over and you don't need to disable the the "Always on" feature.

Also, in Battery saving mode, the raise to wake and tap to wake features are also disabled, as is background app refresh.

I know some reviewers who waited 2 weeks and didn't rush out their reviews have said the 4 XL has perfectly good battery life once Adaptive Battery learns your habits and figures out the usage patterns etc.

Also, as others have said, nowadays AOD automatically dims down if you're not near it etc. Even my Pixel 2 XL does that now after software updates.

HOWEVER, what @Aneres11 says regarding overnight draining - my phone has definitely gotten much worse over the past 6 months. I could leave in at 90% when I go to bed, and it would have lost 15-20% overnight with just AOD on.

My suspicion is there must be something weird going on with a rogue app, or something over-connecting but I haven't really investigated it.

It's the same thing with my MacBook Pro - my wife can easily get 8 hours with her MacBook Air, and all my friends get great MBP battery life. Me?

2 hours. Max. And it's been like that with my last 3 MBPs - since I transfer and never do a hard reset, it must be something bogging it down.

Battery died at 9:20 before I could reach the charger. At 4% it just conked out. Lol.

So less than 3:45 SoT.

I'm in such a predicament now because I actually love this phone. I do prefer using it to my iPhone.
But this battery is shocking. I don't really want to overlook that poor of a battery performance.

I'm tempted to try an XL but then I'd miss out on the Chromebook which is only be selling anyway, but it reduces the overall cost of the device then.
Are there any good battery cases? I know that's not what you want because you want to keep the phone from feeling bulky and looking like a tank. I was just wondering if this was a possible solution for some people. Sorry, I haven't had any spare time to read up on things.

I've definitely given up on the idea of the small Pixel 4. Sheesh.

No matter what you do, you will always have battery issues with the Pixel 4. The battery will be much worse in a year. Your best solution is to either get a Pixel 4 XL or a different phone or just put up with the regular 4. It’s really baffling and even frustrating to see people complain about the 4’s battery life when they should have known how bad it was prior to purchasing the phone from reviews and articles. The information was out there. ?‍♀️
