That’s a shame. But given the times we are in I can understand them paring down to what they perceive as the basics.
I don't think it's so much paring down to basics as it is that the XL was going to be seen as the competitor to the SE and couldn't possibly meet the same price point, plus the HUGE jump the SE had in sales...

Possible October release now!
That’s so weird. That they have them and held them back. People know they’re coming out. Just release them and let the people who know about and need this phone go ahead and get them.

Going out in masks I appreciate my iPhone SE so much. Some people using masks would probably want this cheaper Pixel sooner rather than later.

Oh well not my circus, not my monkeys. My next tech purchase will be the next Apple Watch and if and only if it has new sensors my current watch lacks.

Wonder if that will delay the Pixel 5/5XL then. I'll be phone shopping in the Fall, my 2XL will be 3 years old then (or it will have been out that long). Not sure I want the 4a, but if the 5 drops with the 765 as rumored but is delayed until Spring it's just not worth it.

Prosser's tweet says that it's "likely pushed back" but doesn't give an estimated time frame.

If you read his most recent tweet in the link I shared Prosser says the black model is in the system for a October 22nd release and the barely blue has been removed completely.
Yeah I saw that. Weird that they removed it. I don’t understand why. If they made them, just sell them. Waiting for the market to be idea when the world is pretty much burning and churning makes no sense to me. We got pandemics, job loss, chaos. We even had political marches out where I live, and I live among cows and chickens.

This world is surreal. At least my corner of it is. I’d think they’d just release what they have already made and ready to go and hope for the best. But I admit I’m not a businesswoman. I guess they have reasons I would know nothing about.

If it’s ready to ship they be better off they’d sell it really cheap right now and sell them like hot cakes. Sitting on them costs them money every single day.

I'm expecting a **** show from the Pixels this year. It just seems like they don't know what they want to do or are stuck between two different mindsets. By be due to the transition of the old Pixel team out and the new team in. But if they release a 4a, 4a 5G, and a 5 they will be overlapping too much for any of them to be successful other than maybe the 4a.

Here is what might work since they seem to be going more mid range but with their excellent cameras:

4a - smaller size $399
4a (5g) - smaller size $499
5 (5g) - larger size $599

In reality add $100-$200 to each of the above lol

That would make at least a little sense but I bet the Pixel 5 XL will start at $799 which is too much for what they will probably roll out.

I just opened the Google Canada Play store, and see this picture on the site.
Is this the Pixel 4A, or...?
Doesn't look like either the 3A or 4.
No mention of it anywheres else on the site, just that picture under "WiFi the way it should be".

Looks like someone put the 4a photo with the Nest Wifi by mistake. Maybe a good sign that the 4a will finally be released today if they are making changes to the website behind the scenes.

Here's my theory. They were going to release the 4a/4a XL earlier this year (May or close) but had it delayed due to current world conditions. The 5 was also going to be delayed for the same reasons but later in the year. Rather than have a 4a come out really late and the 5 even later they decided to combine the 2 releases. We heard Google was going back to a middle tier strategy on the 5 around the same time we found out there would be no 4a XL. So I think they just combined the two releases and moved the 4a XL to be called the 5 and thus the middle tier specs, since it's a 4a xl after all. So we really are just going to get a 4a, 4a XL and a 4a with 5g. Have a smaller model with 5g allows them to compete with the new iPhone SE.

Ok I may have had too much coffee but this is what I think about when I'm bored.

The picture is gone now, replaced by a Nest WiFi.

I find it hard to believe that someone 'accidentally' replaced the photo for an existing product with one for an upcoming product. In much the same way that I believe most of the early 'leaks' that happen with Apple (hidden URLs being accidentally discovered, etc), I'd bet a day's wages that it was intentional under the guise of an 'oops.' That's some nice free publicity and renewed buzz in the tech community online.

Its not a question of if it will be released but when. At this point, they'd be fools to not just release it alongside with 5. Follow the Apple/Samsung structure of cheapest, premium, premium big all at once. Release a 4a, 5, and 5XL which prices capped at $700 and they have a chance at being successful.
