September preorder and October shipment? Seriously? Is that UK specific or worldwide?

EDIT: Nevermind...delivery window in US is presently mid-August (Aug 19-20).

Also, the 5G version isn't available yet. The Google Store does mention that 5G will be coming in a version of the 4a and Pixel 5, just not when. Is the phone on the left our first 'official' image of the upcoming Pixel 5?

Phone looks great-value wise it’s exactly what I’m after.

And timing wise it’s just when I’m coming out of my contract so this and a cheap sim only deal? Laughing.

Still trying to wake up, but hit up the g store to have a look seeing if the rumors are true. Didn't see much... No idea on much of anything but the price and color ??? Just black at 349. Didn't see screen size, storage, ram, other color options. But, not awake yet.

Price seems decent as a XL 2 replacement for my mom and sis should they want in upgrade. I'm sure my sister would pick something else however. Not sure I'd order.

Interesting the MKBHD says the phone is noticeably slow...and thats from a fresh install. Thats concerning for long term performance and exactly why Im worried about the lower chipset rumored to be used on the 5. But maybe he just notices it because hes so used to using flagship devices.

Otherwise, seems like a great phone for most people.

I’m going to guess it’s because he is hyper-focused on performance and high refresh displays. OnePlus flagships have widely been considered to be the fastest in performance (or perceived performance) and those have consistently been his go to Android devices the past few years. He noticed the difference between the OnePlus Nord and 8 Pro so doesn’t surprise me that he finds the 4a to be ‘slow’ to his eyes.

I ordered the 4a this morning, and I am getting close to $100 for trading my S8 through Google. I bought a refurb iPhone X early this year, but I held on to my S8. With the trade value through Google this seemed like a great deal!

I suspect the same. People perceive 60hz as being slow after getting acclimated to higher refresh rates.

And the iPhone 12 pros will still be using 60hz and that’s over 1k. Anything can seem slow when you come from 120hz displays

Verge nitpicked some stuttering and slow speeds in the 4A review. Not surprising consider the 730G is a midrange processor, not a bad chip, but still benchmarks well below the A13 (SE2 competition).

Verge specifically called out some stutters while processing photos. As a former 3A owner I know the slight frustration when the awesome Google camera software takes precious extra seconds to process or load an image. Even coming to my SE2 from a 4XL it was night & day at times with how speedy the smallest iPhone is vs the flagship Google phone.

Can't believe the UK availability. Or lack of.
Why bother unveiling now if isn't going to be available for months? :D.
Only Google.

It's still a great phone but from looking at the specs it's not something I would use browsing the internet for one hour, that's not what the purpose of the Pixel 4a is IMO. More of a phone than a computer, the higher end android phones are better suited for that.

I believe him completely, I've used lower-spec android phones and it was a bit of lag browsing the net or opening programs.

The price for what you get is expected. I mean it's not a "good deal," but expected for the spec.

Now one thing that everyone missed, the USB-C port on this thing is USB3.1!! This is quite a feat for a mid-range phone since majority of Androids in this segment with USB-C are actually still on USB2.0.

Just wondering if anyone else has had the thought to basically dump the flagships and go to the a line? I kinda have. Kinda wished there was an XL model. 5g I kinda don't care about right now.

I did last year with the 3a XL for 3 months. The phone was noticeably slower than flagship phones and there were definitely limitations. But to be honest, you get used to it pretty fast. If I had to, I would have no problem using the Pixel a series everyday.

Yet Google only includes a USB 2.0 cable in the box.

Too many features that I've come to rely on in the 'flagship' models--water resistance, wireless charging, multi-lens cameras and high quality video--that I really miss having in my phone.

I'm on that route. Don't want to spend 1K in a phone. Not even 800$. But I do miss some features too. Phones have gotten too expensive.
I remember phones when the only function they had was to lift the handset and say Hello. Today's wonders are mini computers that could send Apollo to the moon.

That’s what I intend to do. Times/priorities change and this ticks all the boxes.

i always talk myself out of switching. used to love the nexus line of google phones, but im so intrenched now i just cant seem to make the switch even though it would proper benefit my pocket. Coming from an iPhone X now, im defo on the lookout for something new

I’m deeply entrenched in the Apple ecosystem but times and priorities have changed and I’m making that move over.

I’d like to hope that people are thinking along the same lines.
