Wow, this thread got kind of quiet did everyone lose interest in this device already?

I think a lot of people skipped it this year whether it be the smaller size, a couple manufacturing issues, and the fact that the camera is simply no longer as big of a selling point anymore some Samsung and Apple have caught up in that department.

I can see that. I haven't really been on the pixel bender I used to be on. Nowadays it's almost like every month another new phone pops up and screams "look at me" and it's almost like, "ugh, yet another new device" ?

Yeah the only Android phone that almost was the iPhone killer for me was the Note 20 Ultra. Such an amazing device. Just not really interested in any other Android phones that come out.

Finally had the chance to check out the 5. I really liked it. I didn't feel cheap; the back had a really unique feel to it. I loved how light the phone felt; my XS in comparison feels like a brick. I just wish the screen was larger.

Well, I guess I won't be checking out the 5. I just noticed Fi has the 4a 5G for $349 for existing customers. Just debating doing trade in of my 2xl...

Hmmm... ?
My 2xl could use an upgrade... And I do use fi. Did you get a promo email or do you have to purchase through fi or will unlocked work?

Btw I haven't seen the phone available yet at all. But haven't checked recently either.

With the Pixel 5 speaker system is sound coming out of both openings on the bottom? Mine only has sound out of the left bottom, if I place my thumb over the right it's near silent.

Tom

ans: pulled up the hardware diagram and the bottom right is a mic hole 🤣

I still love to read about the new Pixels.

But I’ve been so busy burning through every iPhone Apple has released this year! 🤣

Been using a Pixel 5 as my daily for almost a month now; got it from Amazon unlocked on the 30th of October. I ordered it at the hospital before going into surgery and it was waiting for me when we got home. Only complaint I had initially was that Live Transcribe didn't work out of the box; this was a software bug that was repaired with the November update the following Monday. I love Live Caption; I use it for all my calls. Works very well; not perfect but augments what I can hear and definitely helps me get by. Wish Apple had something like that. Wish non-Pixels had something like that. But, I do like day one updates. Miss telephoto, but not as much as I thought I would.

Don't think anyone else has mentioned it but this is the ONLY touch screen I've ever used that doesn't show my fingerprints. Every other one within hours looks like I used it while eating pizza, french fries, and chicken wings. First oleophobic touch screen coating that actually works for me.

Lol yeah I use screen protectors and they all have varying qualities of coatings. Some make me look like such a slob and really I swear I’m clean and tidy!

I’ve had the pleasure of trying this phone out this weekend. I’m just really sick of the iPhone’s text message bug where I don’t receive notifications.

I actually like this phone a lot and think it’s really well done. I haven’t really tested the speakers though, which I know is a big deal that’s been talked a lot about. Google software is so nice.

The only reason why it probably won’t stick for me is that I actually think it’s in 3rd place when it comes to camera now. I am also testing a Note 20 Ultra, which I’ve had before and I’ve taken some test photos and I’ve been least impressed by the Pixel in a lot of cases, specifically selfies. I just look really pale in them. And I haven’t even tested video yet.

I have the Pixel 5 and have been thinking of picking up the Ultra, so a timely post for me. Have you noticed much difference in the batteries?

I’m also a little worried about the size difference as the 5 really does feel compact.

Haha good timing for sure. So with the Note 20 Ultra, you basically just have to commit to a phone that you use 2 handed a lot. With that said, the Samsung series does have the best One Handed Mode implementation where the entire screen shrinks into one corner. Better than Apple’s reachability for sure. The Pixel 5 really is such a nice one handed phone though

I haven’t gotten the most accurate battery tests yet, but I do think you’d sacrifice a little bit of Screen On Time. Maybe an hour to an hour and a half. The Note definitely did drain a bit faster.

Curious why you’re looking to maybe switch from the Pixel. How have you liked it so far?

A few reasons... Best Buy has 450 off right now for Black Friday. I like the flexibility of the cameras and the incredible screen. I also have this vision of incorporating the s pen into my workflow at work. Although, the non impulsive side of me thinks the non stock Android, large size, will turn me off. I also think I’ll use the s pen more to take selfie’s of me and my labradors than becoming some productivity monster at work. :p

The Pixel 5 has actually been my favorite Pixel ever, edging out the 2XL. With the lukewarm reviews, I was surprised how much I’ve liked it!

It’s a tough choice for sure! The 108mp camera on the Note is great. And it does really eliminate the need for a laptop as you can just Dex it to your TV.
