The pixel 5 makes me mad at google, I keep discovering stutters and lags all over, I just need to take a picture and then swipe back to the homescreen and the phone stutters, and dont even get me started on being unable to send someone a picture right after taking it because I need to wait for the phone to finish processing it ...

Stupid google if they wanted to save money they should have gone with last year's snapdragon 855 oh but 5G is WAY more important than a snappy phone.

Off topic: I got this case and Im surprised at how good it looks and feels, my issue with it is that the volume up and down and the power button are definitely harder to press with the case on, I hope it gets better with time... that being said, it's very similar to apple silicone cases and it comes in a green tone kinda similar to the just sage color (the pictures show a pixel 4 but the case is for the pixel 5)

Maybe this might interest you @nospleen ?

In the grand scheme of things, does it really matter if you can't send a pic the instant you've taken it?
I agree. You are talking maybe 2-3 whole seconds and that is for a complicated scene or night shot. If I remember correctly when I used the Pixel 5 it wasn't even that noticeable. I think people just enjoy complaining.

Third party launchers don't work on Android 11?

So I've tried both Nova and Lawnchair launchers on my Pixel 5, and both have the same issue, when swiping up to go back Home, it resets back to the default Pixel launcher.

I looked in settings for both launchers, as to why it's doing that, but can't find why?

Is this a known issue, that launchers don't work on Android 11?

I haven't tried on my end. Have you set the launcher as default in the App settings?

To be fair, my 12 Pro and 12 spend a noticeable few seconds applying the processing voodoo to every picture I take, too. I’ve got all the settings tuned to give me the best image possible automatically and that’s the price I pay.

Yes. I experienced the same with 12pro. It was about 3 seconds after I took some indoor low light pictures before it was available to share. Surprisingly i never see this lag on Pixel 4 XL.

Didn’t the Pixel 4 XL and the older pixels have a processor dedicated just to processing images? My Pixel 2 and 3 XL do have a very slight lag while they process images but it’s barely noticeable.

Pixel 3/3XL had the visual core that came in an update after release, which was replaced by the neural core in the 4/4XL.

Ohhhh so this is interesting, why aren't reviewers mentioning this? :/

So many reviews are almost clones of each other and all say and focus on the same things and gloss over or omit all the same things. That’s why I remain a part of this forum, to interact with real owners who aren’t monetized to describe these products according to a set narrative.

For example, the struggles some of us have with eye pain and migraines from the displays is something reviewers don’t really discuss in any depth. Rene Ritchie is one of the few to at least mention it...once.

And they’re only just starting to get back into describing how these smartphones function as actual phones instead of cameras. I think maybe there was sort of a bias against doing that when iPhones had really bad mics and crappy modems.

A friend of mine recently bought a Pixel 5 & now he getting rid of it & going Samsung, he sent his first one back because there was a gap where the screen was slightly raised from the casing, his replacement was perfect but it's now suffering from what seems a overheating issues when doing anything like recording video, the phone get really hot to the touch.

Now my pal been an avid Pixel user going back to the Nexus day's, but he now finally had enough of google and their shoddy quality control & reckons the Pixel 5 is not worth the £600 they asking for it, he still has his Pixel 3 XL which he said he also selling & putting the money toward a Note 20 ultra.

He said the Pixel 5 was the final straw & he done with Google smartphones.

It is a pretty great little phone. Way smaller than I am used to, especially when I have been switching between foldable phones and Max. Performance has been really good pretty much everywhere that I have noticed, except processing photos can be slower than it should be, camera seems as good as you would expect. It does get warm, I haven't been using a case and is very noticeable at times, never hot though. Build quality to me is just average, does kinda look like the screen has a gap. I think it is a really good phone, I just wish there was an XL version.

I am with you on the Pixel 5 XL wish....I skipped the Pixel lineup this year because there was no XL model.

But there is hope! LOL

Why there probably will be a Pixel 6 XL in 2021

We can only hope they are right about the next Pixel...if I was to go Pixel this year I would probably go 4a 5G ..if only it had 90hz but otherwise I think thats the better choice overall

Unlike most people, I’m fine with small Pixels. It’s details like this plus poor speaker quality that make me wary of plunking down the money.

My iPhone SE was a quality phone at a great price. As much as I love my two Pixels, one suffers from a pink blotch display and the other from insufficient RAM and odd volume drops during calls. I am a bit uneasy that it’s sort of understood you may have to go through a couple of returns to get a good one, even though they’ve been at this for a few years now. They’re a Goliath of a company and they’re still trying to say screen gaps are within their standards. For the price I don’t expect cutting edge specs, but I do expect a well made phone. Jeez.

It was never going to last forever. I bet they hope people would have made it their number 1 online photo storage and want to pay.

For 18 months I've been paying £16 a year for 100gb. Not much really and better than iCloud pricing.

Yup, just opened that same email. I'm thinking Google is going after that sweet sweet subscription (and software as a) service.

In the mean time, I'm considering just dumping fi or at least nix my idea of porting my main line over to it. Maybe pixel on at&t ? still unsure if it's just me being unlucky with service where I work or if the radio just are no good ?

Stock android is so good, they just need to fix that awful share menu, apart from that I don't really have any complains, I'd wish android was more like windows in the fact, that all manufacturers use microsoft's UI as it is, they just add a little bloatware ehem extras...

Also google really needs to bring their own chip ASAP and dump Qualcomm, if wouldn't surprise me if even the A11 from 2017 is more powerful than the snapdragon 865 ...
