Good luck my friend getting what you will enjoy most. It is always fun to see what you will try next.

@drinkingtea is also becoming quite adventurous with phone choices. It's fun to see all of this.
Thanks GM!
I’m away next week so won’t be able to take delivery if I ordered one so may have to join a bit of a wait list as I’m sure the PM will sell out quickly!
Gives me time to consider what to do anyway 🙂.

Does anyone know what promotional offers Google Store in the UK ran when they launched the Pixel 7 Pro?

Trying to get an idea of what launch offers we are likely to see this year

I seem to remember free watch with the 7 Pro, or a big discount or something along those lines.
And in the US they offered really high trade in prices plus $200 store credit. My Pixel 4a trade in last year was worth almost what I paid when I purchased it directly from Google a few years ago. I still have my $200 store credit which expires on Oct 14th and I want to trade in my Pixel 6.

I know I said this may be the first year that I don’t order a Pixel, in favour of a 15 PM.
Well, my 15 PM will be here Friday, but I am away til Sunday so will have to try and rearrange delivery when tracking comes through til then. Or, miss delivery and hope they redeliver on Monday.

Anyways, I am slightly concerned about this telephoto camera which was supposed to be the biggest reason I was swaying to an iPhone over a Pixel for the first time in ages.
However, I have seen some samples of the zoom lens from the 15 PM and… it does not look promising. It looks like the usual iPhone zoom shots. Crap, basically. I will reserve judgement until the phone arrives and I can test it, but it seems a bit concerning.

Looking forward to your thoughts on the 15 PM, I do see a Pixel 8 Pro in your immediate future though. 😆

And a Pixel Watch 2. 😆
Honestly, nope. Not unless it’s a freebie.
I really dont like smart watches. I just dont get them and fine them to be more of an annoyance.

The Pixel Watch was the first one I have ‘liked’ to a degree as it literally just gave me notifications and that’s it.
Apple Watch tries to make you stand up, tells me to record work outs when my heart rate increases, Siri activates with a mind of its own - very annoying. TBF, my Apple Watch is series 3 so it could have improved a lot since!

But if there’s no free Pixel Watch 2 then I wont be buying one I will just keep the OG.
Google are good with trade in’s, though. So if they offer a tasty trade in deal on that I can always weight it all up nearer the time.

Having said all this, I updated my 14 to iOS 17 and I am really enjoying it. The QoL updates are great, being able to pause music now from the widget is simple but effective, you can FINALLY set multiple timers!! And the call screen customisation that you can have your contacts see when you call them is brilliant.
I like iOS a lot. So in a way I hope my worries turn out to be nothing when I get my hands on the PM.

I'm not a huge smart watch guy myself, dabbled in Fitbit and Apple Watches several times over the years, more times than I like to admit tbh haha.

I will be trying the Pixel Watch 2 though, best looking of the bunch imo.

It’s like the battery life complaint for the first Pixel Watch. I didn’t understand it but that’s because I don’t want to sleep in my watch to get sleep tracking and the watch will hardly last the day let alone into the night.
But for those who do want that feature I understand why they’d want better battery life. It absolutely should last longer than it does.

I was happy slapping it on the charger every night before bed and putting it on in the morning and getting a day. It does need to improve, though, so hopefully they’ve fixed that.

I still think it’s the best looking smart watch too.

As someone who is primarily an iPhone/Apple user but dabbles with Android (Tried Samsung Galaxy devices) would you say the Google Pixel is worth a try?

Also do they often give away pre-order bonuses like Samsung do with their pre-orders? in the UK.

Definitely, yes. Pixels are so good.
The 8 series look set to basically refine what has gone before. Which as we know, is basically all smart phone companies are doing these days with their flagships.

In the UK, Google have probably the best trade in values vs other companies. They often throw in some freebie or another, whether it’s the ear buds or a watch. They do make it pretty tempting to give one a go.

Couple renders of the 8 and 8 Pro:

Absolutely.

I'm a diehard Android guy, and to me it's Pixel or nothing.

Stock Android is a simple minimalist UI, but is very smooth and fluid. Lots of people call it the Google iPhone.

It sounds tempting, also I keep seeing good things about the cameras on YouTube videos. With it being a Google Pixel, I’m guessing it’s stock Android? Which would be the best version (kind of like Apple making IOS).

will definitely watch the Pixel 8 event in a couple of weeks.

I will be very tempted to try the Pixel if they give the Watch 2 as a pre-order bonus, it’s one of the great things about Samsung, they offer great pre-order bonuses.

Does anyone know if Google offer a returns policy if you dont like the phone? Similar to Samsung who give a 14 day returns.

Yup. 14 days no questions asked. Win win. 😁

That’s great, if I like what I see, I’ll pre-order and give one a try 😁

I’ve never used a Pixel or stock Android.
Stock is a funny one. I like it, but I wish it gave a little more customisation.
For me, it is visually the best version of Android bar none. Samsung provide more in the way of ‘tinkering’ and options but it sometimes is a bit too much (my opinion) and you can be a bit overwhelmed with it all. You also have to download an app and then there are apps within the apps (good lock) which just becomes far too confusing. Google could do with letting you do a bit more - a happy medium between stock and Samsung :D.

You need to give it a good week to see how you feel about it. Android has a steeper learning curve than iOS I think, and I imagine if you go from iPhone to android the first day would be a bit jarring. But can’t hurt to give it a go and see what you think.
The camera alone will probably have you hooked. ;)

You know me - I will be sure to put it through its paces!
I am really looking forward to trying it out. I love my 14 and iOS 17 has some really great touches that have removed some of the most jarring things for me when I switch back to iOS.
And I am intrigued to see how the phone ‘feels’ as that has been one of the most universally praised things. I get it though. The Pro’s were always too heavy, I hated the shiny rails as they looked terrible with the fingerprints and grime and the sharp edges did make it feel a bit cumbersome.
The 15’s seem to improve a lot of that!

As much as I don’t love the look of the blue Pixel 8 from renders, I do like that google know where the saturation slider is when they chose that colour - unlike the new iPhone 15’s! It makes me sad when I look at my yellow 14 (the BEST colour ever) to what the yellow looks like now. :(
And the regular 15 is a temping buy this year too! It’s got some good upgrades.

iOS 17 those small touches are welcomed and I'm enjoying the update here too ...I'm leaning more into upgrading finally lol but going to wait it out a little ....I'm looking forward to the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro and everyone here with your new devices ...

With the news that Samsung is getting rid of the 10x Zoom, I'm really tempted to give the Pixel 8 Pro a try. On Samsung, I love the S23 Ultra and an also considering going the Z Fold Route, but I do also kind for simpler UI and no more duplicate apps. QC worries me though as I feel like Samsung has better and now stable hardware.

I’m thinking about giving Pixel 8 a try because it’s pure Android, a couple of people I know on Android keep telling me I need to experience stock Android (ie Google).

Also if the camera on the Pixel 8 or 8 Pro is better than iPhone 15 Pro Max, that will be a big bonus.
