Has anyone else managed to scratch the display yet on the P8P?

I'm normally really careful with my phones and have never had a deep scratch on phones I have not dropped before. I don't normally bother with a screen protector. And yet I have a 1/2" graze on my front display.

Its not Google's fault or anything, I just wondered if the screen was somehow easier to nick than previous models.
I haven't noticed a difference between the 7 and 8 series. Typically Apple, Google and Samsung tend to improve the screen glass protection year over year. They rarely if ever cheap out on their flagship phones and if they have, I certainly can't recall that.

Updated mine last week and it was pretty fast. My P7 took 2 hours do finish an update. I actually hated getting them.

One time at work it started updating and I didn't have Wi-Fi and my phone was kinda frozen and I couldn't use it for half the day.
This one has been much, much better. Not sure what was up with the P7.

I got this email from Google and thought some of the features are pretty slick. One in particular is "sprucing up document scans with a swipe". It's kinda like magic eraser but for documents. Another is called Repair Mode which protects your data if your device is getting repaired. No need to erase the phone before it goes out for repairs. Nice job Google 🥳

So ' Repair Mode ' is what Samsung calls ' Maintenance Mode ' in it's devices.. Pretty handy feature indeed!

I held out a couple months but I just ordered a Bay 8 Pro. The deal was too good to pass up. On sale for $799 and I got an email last night with another $100 off code (stackable) "because you're a Google Photos user". Odd, but I'll take it. So $699 for a new P8P.

Guess the 15PM is going to get a break.

Google Assistant sounds unbelievably natural with the new updates. GA spammed checked an inbound phone call. It saved the transcript and the male voice sounded just like the voice in the Google demo a couple of years ago trying to make reservations for a person. Very impressive.

It was so impressive I thought the natural voice was the person trying to reach me. It basically went like this: Hi, i'm a virtual Google voice assistant, recording this call for the person that you're trying to reach! Before I connect you, can I ask what your calling about? (Caller responds) The GA responds with: Unfortunately, the person you're trying to reach can't take your call right now, have a nice day. Click 😆

What was SO impressive was the GA voice inflections. It did not sound robotic, it actually sounded like a real f-in person.

@Aneres11 - I am experiencing the same issue you had with the Pixel 8 Pro taking very blah / cool temp photos. I took photos of our dog and they are just not realistic in terms of color temp and overall color. I pulled out my iPhone 15PM and snapped a photo at the same time on both phones and the iPhone is clearly more color accurate. This is in an average lit room with warm lighting. The Pixel just looks bland and too cool.

I toggled the ultra HDR option in camera settings and it didn't really make a difference. Did you adjust any other settings to bring the life back into photos?

*Edit- I sent the photos to my wife thinking it may just be the screen display, nope. Photos are way too cool. Even last night when out to dinner the skin tones made us look way too pale.

Ahh, sorry to hear! To be honest, flicking Ultra HDR 'off' made a world of difference for me. It really did just sort the colours out.
Have you got the Rich colour option enabled?

I flicked that on too and it seems to liven photos up even further. Hopefully this helps?
I do think there is a definite cool temperature across the pixel photos and direct comparison to the iPhone (which has always been very warm) often makes the pixel seem lacking.

Thank you, yes I have rich color enabled and ultra HDR disabled. Aside from our dog I shot photos of inanimate objects and found the same thing. Very cool and not the real life color.

Can this be fixed by using a 3rd party camera app? I can't be bothered to edit every photo I take, that's madness.

I'll admit I just did some direct comparisons with my 15 PM and still finding colours to be lacking when side by side. But if I just look at the pixel shots on their own they seem ok.

Not sure on 3rd party apps sorry! Never used anything other than the stock app.

I believe there are some apps but they don't take advantage of the Pixel's AI or processing, but I could be wrong. I don't have a huge problem with it, sure it's annoying. My wife is the one who hates how the photos look from the past two days 😂 . I also can't get night sight to ever work, the photos are just really dark. Not how I remember the Pixel 7 or 6 looking. It may well be user error, will have to keep tinkering.

I don’t take enough pics but when I do if anything I just adjust with Google photos ..really just one tap to amp my colors or mood if needed…

I tried that feature and it’s great. Doesn’t do anything for color temperature for me though. 🤷‍♂️

I know there were some early complaints about the modem but it's been as solid for me as any device. Much better than the Tensor 2. I'm also pulling higher speed tests with it than my 15PM. Side note: T-Mobile is killing it around where I live. I'm in a suburban area that's borderline rural but very dense with home sites. With the 1Gbps + speeds I'm wondering if they have put mmwave in and around the neighborhood to support their 5g home internet.

I received an offer from Google for an extra 125 off. It apparently can be stacked on top of the existing holiday offers. It expires on 12.23. I’m not sure if it’ll only work with my email at checkout, but if not, I wanted to offer it up here as I don’t plan on using. It’s only good on the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro.
