Haha time to get you in good standing with the wifey ..

Yes no Apple ID needed is big .. it's early obviously more stuff will be baked in but sounds promising
After a few days I can say that Beeper Mini is easily the best iMessage solution for Android devices. It's been updated a few times already. The ability to edit and unsend messages is great. I don't recall being able to do that on any other iMessage app for Android. The ui is really good. There are still areas for improvement though. The lack of ability to do a quick reply from a notification being the biggest issue I can think of. All in all a good start.

Omg! Google have addressed the HDR photo issue I have been bothered by since I got my 8 Pro.
You can now knock Ultra HDR off in the settings! That option wasn't there before! I finally feel like I've got my old pixel camera back 😭.

That should shut that one guy up who kept crying whenever I moaned about this in here as I won't be moaning anymore. 😁

Just tested and the difference is noticeable! No more zombie photos.

Also, it's so funny reading their description of Ultra HDR. As what it claims to do, it actually did the bloody opposite and ruined photos by sucking colour out of them!
This option is not on my phone. Maybe it will be later.

Yea that's my worry. Honestly I have no desire to pick up my iPhone now lol. I'm sure once Apple catches on, that will be a problem.
Haha you know I guess moving from IP12 Pro to IP15 Max was a big upgrade for me bc I use my iPhone way way more nowadays

Hmmm beeper mini is broke for me. Wonder if Apple already blocked it
Yeah, I peeped news article reporting on this. However, the devs of Beeper has stated the issue is not related to Apple... but more on Beeper side.

Edit. Welp, the devs were wrong.

Yeah, my beeper mini isn’t working right now. Tried sending and receiving, no luck.

I will say, my Pixel 8 Pro battery has been pretty terrible over the last few weeks. It started really well, and then I changed the screen Res to full and noticed the hit to battery so knocked it off again. However it's been a bit poor recently.
I know that updates can steady some of this so hoping that happens, but it's strange how it's gone from being hugely improved Vs 7 Pro to back to being a bit middling.

I'm wondering if it's something to do with this Wavelet app I have. Might disable it and see what happens.

I know I have posted on this before. People seem to have mixed results.

From my experience with adaptive battery it tends to work really well after 10 days or so and then after another two weeks it starts to tank. I don't know why?

I tried with adaptive battery off and on several times and for me turning adaptive battery toggle off in battery saver has produced consistent results with better battery life.

For me the change was rather noticable in a day after a full charge. Going from 100% and down would take a few minutes to go to 99% while with adaptive battery it would drop much faster.

Battery life after the update seems better to me??

The only other thing is a wakelock in a runaway app.

Good luck and I hope it turns around for you!

Yeah, I think the biggest issue was Beeper trying to monetize it.

If they went about it as a gesture of goodwill... I doubt Apple would have done anything.
I am not so sure about that? I agree that charging a monthly fee was a bad idea. They should have set up a donation page or set a cheap flat one time purchase. That being said, any threat that actually works against iMessage is the more important thing here.

I think Apple wanted to shut this down fast because all the other solutions relied on insecure implementations and were all doomed to fail. By reverse engineering software it was genius but also a huge Achilles heel because Apple could easily modify it any time with an update. But it removed the security issue and worked in real time. So if it became popular enough it could become a serious threat. A lot of people will pay $2 a month for that compatibility.

Apple doesn't care about anything other than profit. It is also a problem because at some point the focus is going to bite them. So far, they have been able to keep up a certain image but in reality Apple has never been about anything other than Apple.

Apple already shut it down today.
I tried the trial for a couple days and I didn't see anything special about it as an Android user. Didn't see a edit option or unsend option.

Tried today sending a couple pics to a friend Apple user and they didn't work. Then saw Apple shut it down from their servers.

Other solutions like AirMessage and BlueBubbles are insecure implementations? I actually prefer those implementations than SunBird and Beeper Cloud. Since I'm self-hosting and not relying on some random Mac I have no access to.

Oh, Apple is certainly all about Apple... unfortunately, that's how they have been so successful.

🤬🤬🤬 I hate Apple. Love their products but hate the company. Honestly other than us tech geeks a very minor percentage of people would even know about this. Oh well it was a fun two days 😂

I didn't explain properly.

This was the first secure implementation that didn't require a Mac as a server. That is a big deal. You may prefer them but a lot of us don't have a spare Mac or want to use or only Mac that way.

If course this entire situation is ridiculous. We should have full compatibility with our texts no matter the platform and the fact that the government isn't stepping in and changing the situation is really puzzling to me. What if only part of our phone worked between platforms or it was lower quality? No one would stand for it and the same is true with texting.

I Agree.

Very minor percentage of people? Nah… I wager it would have been a hugely popular app.

Just in the two days its been on the Google Play Store.. it jumped to #2 in Communication with over 100k+ downloads. Imagine them being able to keep that train going… Beeper would have received crazy amounts of profit, Apple evidently would not be in favor of that.

I didn't know about it til I read it in here.
Really had no interest but thought I'd try the trial to see what the hype is and those 2 days, I didn't see anything different I can do with Google messages. .....except I send a blue bubble. No idea what the other end saw other than a blue bubble.

I didn't see an edit option, which would be cool for any message apps or an unsend but I assume there is a time limit to unsend.

Well, of course... it's no different than any messaging platform. The problem that it solves... it allows for Android users to send high-quality photos or videos to iPhone users and then there's the group thread issue (sending reactions).

I think people get stuck on the blue vs green bubbles and neglect to see the underlining issues when using SMS.

Yup! It's a time limit in order to unsend or edit a message using iMessage.
