So I’m going to try and bow out from the smart phone hamster wheel I feel like I’ve been on for about 10 years (probably more :p).

Recently I gave Samsung a shot with the S24 (never again), and I have had my 15 PM since launch with the 8 Pro and then 8 reg alongside.

I am now down to just one phone. The 15 PM and I am really enjoying using this device still. It’s not that I’m not enjoying the pixel as I love the phone, but I am finding the iPhone just wins out in lots of different areas for me such as music playback with DA, Apple CarPlay being infinitely better than AA on my BMW IX, and just overall app reliability which I won’t bore with but there’s a lot of instances for me where Apple apps just do a bit of a better job.

So this is me out I think. I’m going to keep popping in and will definitely be upgrading the iPhone and probably try the new pixel or the fold depending on when it lands, but for now, I’m a one phone guy. 😅.
Prob won’t last long, but I do want to try and give the iPhone a shot solo. I’m completely satisfied with it so far and have used it way more than the pixel since I have had both.
Good luck! I've been one phone Jones for 2 weeks, so far so good.

I don’t know but if you go on google store UK they’ve suspended orders of the pixel saying there will be offers on 1-2 March
Just looked a yea I see what you mean "Great deals are coming soon. Come back 01.03.24 - 02.03.24 to shop an exclusive, limited time offer."

I don't think they have suspended orders tho.

Amazon is doing a limited-time deal where you can get the 128GB Pixel 8 Pro with a choice of different coloured Pixel Buds Pro for £800. That's better than the deal you were offered on the previous page.

I still think the EE Store deal was great. I know some are wary of buying used, but my 256GB Pixel 8 was as new with a battery cycle count of 5. If the cashback pays out-it has increased to £170-it will have cost me £210.

That does seem like a good deal, £800 for both the 8 Pro and the Buds Pro.

I’m not holding my breath but if the offers are decent esp the 256gb version id consider upgrading from my 11 PM

Where did you get the 256gb for that price

The EE Store sells used stock. Scroll down, and you will see a section marked 'Buy used stock'.

It operates like a Dutch auction, with the price dropping by around £8 each day for the Pixel 8. The update seems to take place at about 9:45 p.m.

At the time I bought mine, TopCashback was offering £200 cashback to paying members (£170 for free members) on any Pixel 8 bought from the EE Store. I thought that would only apply to new phones, which is why I didn't upgrade to a paid account, but the cashback has increased to £170. Whether I get it is a different matter, but £375 (after standard cashback) for a 256GB Pixel 8 was still a good deal as far as I was concerned. If I get the higher cashback, it will have cost me £209.88. The bonus cashback deal has now ended, and you only get the standard 1.7%.

Some of the stock is listed as being in 'excellent condition', others as being 'used and shows signs of use'. Mine was the latter, but it was still in excellent condition after I had cleaned it. Other people's phones were the same.

They are currently offering the Pixel 8 Pro with Buds Pro for £800 on Amazon. That is the cheapest I've seen it so far. If Google do that on the 1st March and include the Mint colour, it will be really tempting to pick one up even tho I recently brought a iPhone 15 Pro Max.

That is a good deal! I would get that deal. Just keep in mind that we are about 6 months away from the Pixel 9 series. So sales and discounts will ramp up on the 8 series as that time comes probably with a peak sales discounts in June/July so they can clear out inventory before the new release.

So do you jump on a deal for the 8 or wait for the 9?? I would be very tempted to see what Google will offer and pre order deals will most likely come with free stuff making the MSRP easier to handle. So you might get the buds pro free with a Pixel 9 Pro for example but have to pay full MSRP but will get high trade in value of you have a trade to help.

If I were you I would wait for the pre order and then get everything I want all at once and hopefully save some money and get the latest gen device. If it were closer to the release of the 8 I would get it but now with the S24 and other new phones coming up I would want the latest Pixel.

But the deal you posted seems really good. The first one you posted was not so great. Good luck whatever you decide!!

Jump on the p8pro deals if good enough

There’s no way a p8p is worth anything more than £600ish so I wouldn’t pay more than that. If the deals are good on Friday I’d consider one, otherwise will probably upgrade to 15PM

There's no way they will drop it to £600 or below, the Pixel 7 Pro is £629 on Amazon. I recently brought the 15 Pro Max, it's a great phone and the camera is a big upgrade. I do want a good Android phone along side my iPhone tho, iOS is just so boring.

Hard disagree. It’s worth its RRP IMO. For the camera, stock Android and the support it gets alone. The additional deals are just a cherry on the cake which make the full price even more palatable. Especially vs the competition.

Your argument is rather flawed. The phone is worth what the buyer perceives it to be. If you believe an iPhone 15 PM is worth £2000, nothing will change your mind because it offers value to you. If it doesn’t you won’t pay it. Because you believe the Pixel 8 Pro isn’t worth more than £600 doesn’t mean it applies to everyone else.

The price of the P8P is worth every US penny to me because it does what I need it to do whereas my iPhone is turned off 95% of the time because it doesn’t do what my Pixel CAN do. That’s why I prefer Pixel’s over an iPhone.

My suggestion to you is, buy an iPhone.

Would love to how you you think in 2024 that pixel 8 pro is only worth 600? It’s a premium flagship. Only thing that’s lacking is the processor

A product is worth only the amount someone is willing to pay for it

Let’s see what sort of deals we get Friday! I’d prefer the P8Pro over the s23/24 ultra any day

It will be interesting to see what deals they are going to announce Friday, It may be in line with what they have on Amazon. Why would you prefer the P8Pro over the S23/24, are you not a OneUi fan?

I had the s23 ultra for a few weeks

The face unlock was useless. It never worked for me.

The camera photos were blurred if taking photos of moving objects which I do a lot.

For these reasons I sold it on.

I suspect that Google will offer the Pixel 8 Pro for £849 and include the Pixel Buds Pro for free. That wouldn’t be as good as the Amazon deal, but it would be better than what they’ve offered before, if my memory is correct.

It does seem as if Google is making some headway in the smartphone market. I came across the following article, which says they shipped over 10 million units for the first time last year. It also has some interesting information on why the smartphone business is so important to them, and that should bode well for the future:
https://asia.nikkei.com/Spotlight/Supply-Chain/Google-plans-to-begin-Pixel-phone-production-in-India-in-Q2#

Another article I found suggested that the bulk of sales were probably for the Pixel 7 and 7a. I would imagine that the 6a was still a big seller in some territories.

Having owned a 6a, 7a, and 8 in a relatively short space of time, I’ve been impressed with all three of them. The 6a will no doubt be discontinued when the 8a launches, but I do think that the 7a, with face unlock (which solves a lot of the fingerprint sensor issues), a higher refresh rate display, and wireless charging, hits the sweet spot for a lot of people.

I have been purchasing Pixel phones since the 4a and I love them. However I don't buy Pixel phones for the hardware, it's what the phone does with the software and their core apps. Google has a massive lead in the AI space and there still is NO direct competitor to Google's call screener.

Samsung now offers the same since they teamed up with Google and seem to be using their Ai.
