I jumped back on the Pixel bandwagon last week. Still having a tough time deciding between my iPhone 15 Pro and the Pixel 8 Pro. I’m a one phone guy and having one in the drawer all the time is doing my head in!

It seems the 15% off is stackable with other offers which is good though.

From 9to5 google:
“With the 15% discount, the Pixel 8 Pro drops to £849.15, while the Pixel 8 comes in at £594.15. What’s worth noting is that this promo code also stacks with other purchases and even applies on top of previously discounted products”

Playing with my P8P today, put my S24U to the side briefly.

I really like the simplistic minimal UI and it's just a fun phone to play with.

Ok so I'm buying the Pixel Tablet while it's on offer at the moment. It's cheaper than buying the Pixel phone but runs the same Pixel software so it will give me an idea on what Pixel is like, that's my logic anyway.

I prefer Android on a mobile phone 110%.

Though I'm sickened to death of iOS, Apple has annihilated all of the competitors since iPad 1 days on the tablet front. You may want to compare Pixel Tablet to a similar Apple product offering...

I was thinking more because of the docking station, I already have an iPad Pro but no Apple product has the ability to be docked like the Pixel Tablet.
The Pixel 8 Pro is still on Amazon along with the buds pro for £800, however there is no Mint colour because it's exclusive to the Google online store.

Don't get the Tablet. Get a Pixel 8. Big difference in gens. Pixel tablet is first gen and it shows it. 60hz screen. Mediocre Speakers and last years chipset. IPS.

What about the Bay Blue? It really is a beautiful color if you like blue!

Pixel 8 or 8 Pro are the best evolution of Pixel phones yet. Just keep waiting since you have waited thus far. Trust me there will be more sales as Pixel 9 draws closer!!

Just to give some advice on the Android tablet front Samsung tab s9 11" is probably the best one you can get. Probably on sale but it is going to cost at least a couple hundred more than the Pixel Tablet but you get an 8 gen 2, 8gb ram, ufs 4.0 storage at 256gb, s pen included and a beautiful 120hz adaptive refresh rate Amoled x 2 display at high resolution and around 500 nits, a quad speaker system that can rival some laptops and good battery life. As much as I love Pixel, the tab s9 is such a better tablet in every way that I just can't recommend the Pixel tablet. I had a Nexus 7 and I wish Google would adopt a 2 prong strategy. Budget like Nexus 7 was and high end or premium mid grade at low mid grade prices. Instead we got only one option at high mid range price with low mid range specs. Opposite formula of Nexus line. Yes the dock and speaker are a nice add on if it is something you will use. But I prefer that was a separate charge so I could just buy the tablet as well, a tablet and then expand that functionality if I wanted to. I feel like the speaker dock is to hide inferior speakers on the tablet from what I have read in reviews.

I am really hoping that Google has learned a lesson from the Pixel Tablet and the next release either goes a little more budget or has an option like a Pixel a Tablet and make the Pixel tablet high end with 16gb ram, 256gb base ufs 4.0 storage, latest Tensor chipset or upcoming gen not last years gen, OLED 120 hz display or at least very good IPS with 120hz display minimum. Something like the display on the Tab s7/8. And better speakers and optional dock and maybe throw in a Google pencil?

Either way for now I would not try to get the Pixel experience form the Pixel Tablet. Get a Pixel 8/Pro when the timing is right. You have a phone that works and you know what you want so now all it is, is a waiting game for the right deal to appear and then you go. The other thing to consider is to just spend the money instead of trying to save a few dollars getting the tablet or waiting for a sale, you can just get it from Google and pay a bit more but get exactly what you want. If it goes on sale in a while then ignore it. It becomes futile at a certain point chasing after a deal and sometimes we just need to empty the wallet a bit and then see where the chips land. Because if you keep waiting for the right time the next model will release and you will go through the same thing again and never get a phone until you have to. In the time trying to decide you might be causing yourself undue stress. Might as well just take the plunge and be done with it.

I am usually pretty good at getting a good deal and buying and selling as I used to be a buyer but there are times where even I get burned or pay too much or pay MSRP plus financing but for some things that are worth it what else can you do? I am paying a crazy rate for something I just bought in hopes of selling off some other stuff to pay it down before most of the interest kicks in. I can wait for sales that are guaranteed in about 2-4 months and more after that. But by that time we will be close to the next release and my time of enjoying my new device will be a lot less. Sometimes the feeling of a new device and knowing you are one of the first to have it can be fun. If you are not someone who gets excited by tech then it is probably not important to you. I will admit I am a sucker for the fresh new tech. Lol

Good job I saw this before before I hit the buy button , I didn't realise it was Googles first gen tablet. Based off this I'll be better off either getting the Pixel 8 Pro now, or waiting until the 9, however that's not until around October Google hold the phone events at the same time every year.

Tax month runs out soon as well, so I might as well spend the money and claim it back on taxes rather than let the tax man have it 😂

The blue Pixel 8 Pro is what I'd go for, it's a beautiful color, and the phone is so smooth and fluid, and if your into still photography and portrait shots, the 8 Pro is the top dog.
Yea I love taking pictures, landscapes, my friends and family, also we just got a new dog so I'm sure there will be plenty of photos needed 😂

I have heard the Pixel 8 Pro is the best in photography along with the S24 Ultra. My iPhone 15 Pro Max isn't bad by any means, but I would like something with a little more detail and a bit punchier.

The iPhone has always been known as the video king, the iPhone rules that department.

But the Pixel Pro's have been known for awhile now as the top still photo camera on a smartphone for years now, taking portrait shots is fast and simple, and they come out looking amazing. I'm a big dog guy, have 2 Labrador's and the Pixel always takes the best photos of them.

I have the S24U too, and the camera is clearly better on the Pixel 8 Pro, it just is.

Just put my SIM back in the Pixel, going to rock this tonight see how it is again, compared to the S24 Ultra.

Technically as I eluded to with the Nexus series it is not Google's first Tablet. It is the first Pixel Tablet with Tensor chipset. So it is very much a first gen tablet since Google has been out of the Tablet space for so long. I think they rushed it to market because all of us Google fans were yelling at Google why it was taking them so long, like over two years since announcing, so I think they just rushed it. I am hoping the next gen will be much more refined and improved but buying any first gen device from Google is like playing Russian roulette with your money because you never know if they will just discontinue it if it doesn't sell well.

The Pixel 8 is a really good device. The Problem you would be in if you buy now is resale value is already horrid. So if you decided I am going to trade in for the Pixel 9 you won't get much for it or even if you tried to sell privately. So economically it is a upside down situation where you are paying more than it is worth. If you keep it for a few years then this doesn't matter at all.

If you wait for the Pre-Order(waiting sucks) you might be able to swing a free pair of buds pro or a watch and get a high trade in value for whatever you trade. You don't get the sale price but you get a freebie you could sell to offset the MSRP and you get the device from day 1 and don't have to wait anymore. Then hopefully Pixels will hold better resale after the 8 series and then you will be in a better position next time you want to upgrade. If you decide to go Pixel 8 then I would maybe wait a shorter time for a sale so you feel good about not getting the 9.

In the end what matters is you being happy. I can only tell you what I would do if I were in your situation. Ultimately there is no wrong choice but that which you don't like and no wrong price unless you can't afford it. So buy now or later and what is something you have to decide.

I have both on my desk and I was thinking of the same thing but I can't let go of the grippy Titanium brick. Lol. There is just something about the shape with the uniform bezels and flat screen I just can't stop admiring. I like the Pixel but it feels clunky to me in comparison. But it is a cool and funky clunky but still clucky. Lol

They’ve got 21% off the baseline Pixel 8 on Amazon UK, so it’s down to £555, is it worth getting at that price?

Pixel 2 through 8 here, never bricked through Android 14, but I don’t have multiple profiles. From what I’ve read almost all of the bricking problems are with multiple profiles and a single account which Apple doesn’t allow. “Apple ID doesn't work with multiple profiles on the same account. Instead, Apple likes each user to have their own Apple ID account.”

“The only real constant is that it’s happening to phones with multiple profiles, which includes guest and child users. That’s different from having multiple Google accounts on your phone, which doesn’t seem to be triggering the bug.”

I was surprised to find that my Pixel 6a had an impassible problem after one week of Android 14 seeming to run just fine.

I'm guessing that Google did their typical quick testing for the configurations they used and didn't try anything that would actually cause them to have to dedicate money and time to solve.

No more Google hardware products for me.

The pixel 8 is reduced down on Amazon UK would you say it or the base S24 which costs more is better long term. I did try an S24+ but sent it back as I wanted something that wasn’t so heavy financially. There are offers on the S24, £75 off. Both have monthly payments. Which is better bang for its buck?

Both have 7 years of OS updates, so they will both be good long term. If it’s all down to price, go with the Pixel.

Can anyone who's from the UK confirm that Pixel 8 Pro has the Magic Compose feature? I've been told by someone that they know people in the UK who have it. I recently however read that it's a US only feature (even tho the S24 Ultra has it here in the UK)

I think I have it - is this the feature where you can let messages change the style of what you're sending (e.g. Shakespeare, Chill, etc.)?

If so, yes. I have a P8P and I'm a beta user for the app.

Yea that’s the one, where you can change the style to different ones, including Shakespeare.
