Big fan of Marques, but holy cow he needs to chill out on the camera being the main part of the review.

Nowadays, I don't buy a smartphone due to it having the best camera. That's further down the list for me

I want great battery life, a bright display, a fast, smooth fluid UI, solid software support, etc.

The camera the last few years on a good flagship smartphone has been good enough for me.
His channel, his take, so he can talk and review how he likes. Based off how many subscribers he has, I would say his take is more important and blankets a larger population than your take.

He seems to be a fan of Pixel phones and to him the camera is what made someone really consider the phone over another Android phone or even an iPhone. In recent years the camera was complimented by crazy AI software. This year it seems Google has dialed up the AI software to an even higher level.

Just a few years ago, if someone was considering laying out flagship money for a phone based on the hardware, honestly they would probably spend it on a Samsung or an iPhone. This year it seems Google has brought the hardware and software similar levels, which is good when they price the Pro phone in the same range as other flagships.
I don’t think Google can really win the camera game until they have chips up to the task. The inaccurate live preview in the camera app and slow post processing ruins the camera experience.

Love them cons haha like I can’t really find anything else to complain about

Google wins the camera game pretty much every year. There’s still not a smart phone camera that beats it for point and shoot

Google cameras are underexposed and too cold in temperature. The Night Sight capability is worse than competitors now. View attachment 2293377

Not sure why you are posting one example here to somebody who has the 7 pro and 15 pro max.

It’s easy to point to one example to why one does better than the other and that example doesn’t look like pixel activated night mode

Here pixel does better

I would say iPhone and pixel are on par for night mode. Dunno how 8 pro is until I test it

Is anyone else using Samsung browser?
Scrolling any webpage is definitely not 120hz. No problem in any other app or with any other part of the phone but for some reason Samsung browser is really choppy.

I'm a huge fan of his channel. Been following him for 10 years. I just don't really care about the camera being the main focus of 75% of the video. That's my comment and nothing more.

Just set up my banking app and low and behold, face unlock works as biometric log in 😁. And it seems to work much better than the Pixel 7 did.
I'm in a low light room currently as it's dark now in the UK and I only have two lamps on in the room. Face unlock working perfectly!
Face unlock with biometric is definitely a game changer for the 8 Pro. Not since Soli and the 4XL has face unlock been as good. I'm very impressed, especially in low light conditions.

The Verge saw screen dimming pretty frequently from overheating. They also had issues with the Tensor chip overheating and refusing to take video.
My iPhones screen dim like crazy. Granted I live in Texas, but impossible to use outside and not have dimming. (At least that is my experience)

Has anyone tried the Face Unlock yet? Is it as good as some have mentioned?
Depends on the app. Here in the UK the Starling banking app opens immediately on detecting your face - just like on the iPhone, but slightly faster. The NatWest/RBS app detects your face, but then you need to tap an OK button before it allows you to get into the app. I would imagine many apps will support it like Starling pretty quickly. IMO it's a major step forward. Google has implemented security that banks can accept without the bulky hardware Apple requires.

“Low light is typically the area I examine meticulously because it's where I often see disparities. While the Pixel 8 Pro handles low light with ease, I'm almost shocked by how its rivals are pushing low light photography even farther. The Pixel 8 Pro's low light performance underwhelms with its underexposed look and softer details. You can see how the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Galaxy S23 Ultra produce brighter and more detailed images.”

I use it on my Pixel Fold and don't have any issues.
