At low brightness the white text is red when Always on Display is active. Anyone else notice this
I wonder if it’s like my Apple Watch turns red in dark areas instead of the current watch face …let’s see what folks here come back …
It's only on the right side and only at low brightness.

Ughh that does not look to be right …I thought you meant red text on all …and unfortunately thinking it’s an issue with the display but let’s hear from others here with testing their phones

Sorry to say that mine doesn't look anything like that and I'm sat in a near completely dark car right now waiting for for my daughter.

The entire text changes from white to that with a pinkish hue when the low refresh mode kicks in after a few seconds, but that's for all text unlike the photos above.

Most phone makers do this. It is nothing new. Apple does the same between the 15 Pro Max and 15 Pro.
The difference in zoom is as you pointed out yourself merely due to the size limitation. Both have three cameras whereas the Pixel 8 is missing an entire camera and locks down the remaining camera hardware further in software. Apple does not such thing and other than the different zoom you get the exact same hardware on both models. Google didn't even give the 8 a LTPO panel not to mention the 8 Pro has 50% more memory. That's got nothing to do with size constraint. And Google charging $799 for the 8 is a bad deal when the iPhone 14 Pro with much older hardware has that third camera and a better display for just $849 at this point.

In the past Google quietly switched out the display panels on the Pixel 6 for much worse ones after the reviews were out, so I have just no confidence in their non-pro model.

sorry but this is not something new. All phone maker keep some features to their largest model. They know that one is always the best seller. Then the price is always reflective of that as well.
But I do agree that all pro phone models should have the same features size/hardware permitting.

Hmm anyone else's call screen settings disappeared and now can no longer screen calls?
That's a software issue/bug and typically happens after a reboot. It's been going on since 12, maybe prior to that. My workaround is to go back into phone settings and disable call screener options then re-enable each of those settings.

How do I do this if the call screen setting has vanished completely?

Edit: force closed the phone app and now they are back.

Do we not have hold for me in the UK?

The display on the Pixel 8 is so much better than the 7 series. Apart from it going brighter when needed it does not have that awful rainbow effect which plagued the 7 and 7a in particular.

Not going to lie you guys are temping me with all you’re pics of the new phone and watch :)

That blue colour looks awesome, the watch looks good but I’m not sure it’s an Apple Watch replacement.

Pfft. Who needs an Apple Watch when it looks nowhere near as good as the Pixel Watch. My opinion of course. And don't start me on the TV on your wrist Ultra 🙄😁.

I think I like the Watch 2 more than the phone 😅

Ok so it's time for a battery report 😁.
First full day and the signs are great!

27% battery left and I don't think I've EVER got 6 hours screen on time on a Pixel.

Worth noting my Pixel Watch 2 came off charge at 8am and I'm at 54% battery so claims of a full 24 hours seem spot on.

Very good, Google.

The flat screen on the 8 Pro is soooooo nice. And I love the more rounded corners, looks more like a Nexus / Pixel this way. I thought the Pixel 7 Pro had too way too much of a Samsung design, which is not what a Google Pixel should be mimicking.

Plus the display is so bright and punch with deep colors, and super smooth.

Right now using it very carefully with no case, and it looks beautiful, but I need a thin minimal case.
