Great to see everyone enjoying Pixelmas this year!

This is already turning into a long two week wait before I can even pick up my Pixel 8 Pro! Plus I'm travelling abroad for work which is a pita.

Early reports and reviews of the Pixel are positive, I'm genuinely excited to use one again after the 6 Pro.

Loving all the photos and feedback. As always @The Game 161 your cat is absolutely amazing! I'm not sure my 15PM could take as accurate, natural photos. Let us know when you put your new phone family to the photo comparison test, it's a really competitive line-up this year.

@Aneres11 that Private DNS trick for removing Google ads sounds like a must-do for the Pixel. Google adverts are frustrating. Not sure if I can change the DNS settings for my 15PM though.

Bellroy leather case is at my local DPD depot, hopefully the quality is good enough but at least it's "free" with my Google credit. I've had a Bellroy wallet for years and that's held up really well.
Let me know the quality, if you think its not worth it as a normal buy I may cancel and hunt down another third-party leather. I've already cancelled the Mous, I can't have a bulky case.

Still running my 15PM with no case! Apple Care+ will be essential for any accidental drops given the pretty poor drop test results!

Pfft. Who needs an Apple Watch when it looks nowhere near as good as the Pixel Watch. My opinion of course. And don't start me on the TV on your wrist Ultra 🙄😁.

I think I like the Watch 2 more than the phone 😅

Haha all depends on the size of your wrists/hands ;)

The Pixel watch is too small on me, looks like a kids toy..

Then again I've big wrists and slab like hands!

Looks like I'll be replacing my Samsung A53 5G with the P8P inn the next week or 2; but going back to Dublin to work with some new colleagues in the next week or so, so not ordering until I know what dates I'm away and then back etc

Will do, I had the Bellroy case for my Pixel 4 and Pixel 7 Pro and thought they were good quality but have heard they've gone down in quality recently.

TechSpurt's review good as always:

This will be a good 'upgrade' for me seeing as I've decided not to upgrade my 14PM to the 15PM as all I'm getting, realistically, is USB C (and I don't need that as I use Magsafe to charge etc)

One thing I saw on YT yesterday is how weak the P8s Magsafe charging magnetic hold is; so you need to rely on a decent case for it to work the best. It's nowhere near as good as the iPhones capability

When I set up my 8 Pro I do a clean fresh install, no backup.

But I just picked up the smaller Pixel 8 for my Wife, and she wants the phone to have EVERYTHING on it nothing missing just like her current phone the Pixel 5a, she wants all texts, work e-mails, apps, homescreen etc...to be ported over and look have all that 100% on the new phone.

So...how do I goi about dong that? Use that Android One app thing? Or connect both phones together via UCB-C and go through the setup and copy prompts?

Expensive too. I'd never pay that much for a case. Too many that are far cheaper but I guess if you want leather, the choices are limited.

I'd get a Google case like I have on my P7 but I only paid $19.99 for it. They are $34.99 now. Nope.

During setup it says do you want to setup your phone from another device (Android / Pixel).

I'm not sure it will copy over email accounts mind you.

Chrome is a no go on Android for me for this very reason…no extensions or ad blockers. Brave, Samsung’s browser or Firefox all allow extensions I believe. I ironically use Samsung‘s browser (not typically a Samsung fan) because it offers so many of the features and functionality that I prefer from Safari on iOS, including ad blockers. You can sync bookmarks from a desktop version of Chrome with a Samsung extension for Chrome on desktop. Otherwise, I’d use Brave.
I am more of a Microsoft Edge person, and that has a built in extension for an Ad Blocker.

You just have to activate it in the settings.

Just did the Wife's. It setup and copied wirelessly but you can do the cable thing too.

I'll do mine that way today as well but I use Microsoft and Nova launchers ( don't care for the Pixel launcher) that are setup how I like. I take screen shots of them so I can remember how the apps are set up if I need to do some things lol.

The copy may not set up how I want but it seemed to be better than last year when I did it.

That’s the weakness of Android. So fragmented and low functionality

Had an email to say my trade in was received and is now being inspected. Fingers crossed the full amount wings it's way back to me!

Also, I have ordered the Mous case from Google Store. Coming tomorrow. The cheap clear one from Amazon was awful.
