I also got the Hazel Pixel 8 for my Wife, but she's been so busy with work and kids activities she doesn't want me switching her phone out at the moment. So I've been playing with it, got this cool looking grippy case for it;

And man, the smaller size of this phone, and this very comfortable feeling case, makes this little Pixel 8 a joy to hold. It's a very easy phone to grasp and use easily. I've had the Pro or Max or Plus sized phones for years now, I forgot how nice a "small 6.2" screen" feels LOL I might even put my SIM in there and use it for a day, should I or no?

After you get your wife's okay😉 then I would definitely test it out.

Wife might not want a pre tested phone or may not care but if I had the option to try the regular Pixel 8 for a few days I certainly would.

You can give us a compare and contrast opinions on the Pixel 8 from a Pixel 8 Pro user. I would be interested in your take.

Any time I have ever bought a Pixel a series phone I always marvel at how much I get attached to the form factor.

One of the things I like about the 8 Pro is it doesn't feel unwieldy for such a large phone.

So got my phone return box on Saturday. Preparing my Pixel 7 Pro for the journey back to Google. Odd they don't want the box.

But I just did a final back up and clean up. Looks just like the day I got it. Hopefully it will be a good phone for a new owner. It has served me well since day one.

I will miss her but my Bay 8 Pro is making me feel so much better. 😂

I love this phone.

IMHO the Pixel 8 Pro fixes the pain points in the Pixel 7 Pro. Although the 8 Pro is a refinement much like the s23u was a refinement of the s22u.

However, it is all in the details.

To me when I look at the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro they truly feel and look equivalent to the competition. I don't feel looking at the Pixel 8 Pro that it looks or feels inferior in any way. Obviously using the phone could be a different story but at least on the surface the larger aluminum side rails and flatter glass just have a more premium feeling.

Then there is using the Pixel. If you like simple, fast and to the point then the Pixel UI is just about perfect. Customization is there but also not too much that you get lost in it.

The UI is just so nice. I can't put my finger on it but despite having Google apps I can't uninstall it is nice not to deal with crapware and preinstalled apps. It is more than that though it is the little touches in the UI that make it fun to use.

Maybe my Pixel won't win any speed tests with the s24 ultra or beat the gaming chops of the latest Asus rog phone or Red Magic. While people will say that our phone is inferior because of some metric those that actually use a Pixel understand that it is the software that makes the phone and the better hardware is just icing on the cake.

This year we finally got the hardware chops that put it on equal footing with the best and now we get to experience the best software experience on Android-period.

Now, I love Samsung. I think the s23 ultra is hands down the best phone of the year. However, IMHO despite any shortcomings the Pixel 8 Pro is the best phone of the year for me and more importantly delivers what most of us have been asking for. I don't care if the Tensor G3 is the absolute best SOC on the market. I care that it is significantly better than last year and fixes the issues before. I think Google has mostly delivered.

Has Google Store support always been useless? Ordered a watch band, never got collected by DPD and Google support just keep fobbing me off saying the higher up team is investigating. Surely just refund me or send another?

I have been thinking the same thing! Everything seems much smaller.

I even put it side by side next to my S23U and yes, the P8P, everything is much smaller.

The rendering quality "sort of" improves when fonts are set smaller. P6/P7 fonts in general were disappointing even when scaled smaller (haven't laid eyes on 8 or 8 Plus yet).

The stock Samsung ones were also not quite to my liking. I stumbled upon the free Samsung Sans monotype fonts on galaxystore and installed them on my S23+. They are a nice improvement that are similar to the high-quality ones on my OnePlus 8/8T.

RE: having the smaller Pixel 8 for my Wife I've been playing with. I really love the smaller more comfortable size, but everything else is just better on the 8 Pro.

Display is sharper / clearer / brighter, the colors pop more, and just overall nicer.

Haptics feel better

The 8 Pro just feels like a more premium phone. But man the size of the 8 is amazing.

Saw a post on here a few days ago about the modem not being good and not capable of keeping up with download/upload speeds of other flagships. So far my experience is the opposite. It seems to be quite a bit better than the 7 Pro and Fold. In fact, some of the fastest speeds I've seen from AT&T in my area. Going to have to swap the sim to the S23U and try in the same spot. Side note, AT&T has been rapidly improving their 5G+ speeds and capacity around DFW.

Status updated to, prepared to ship...

The pixel 8 pro might actually be happening!

Should be a slight upgrade from the 2XL and 3a I've been running? Really hope this device doesn't let me down...

Debating on if I want a cheapo bumper case like I usually use, or get a skin for a little extra grippiness (thought it'd be funny to slap an iphone teardown skin on it) or run it without a case.

Plan on doing a fresh set up since my current devices are very old and I likely won't do a 1:1 carryover.

Anyone unlock their bootloader and root? It's a pixel so I am debating it (mostly for ad blocking like AdAway) but I am really not sure if I want to deal with the maintenance of being updated and rooted. My computer probably won't support the phone anyway...

Update: got ship notice!

Congratulations I hope you get everything timely.. I think it's going to be a really nice upgrade for you... Hopefully you enjoy the phone when you set up... I stopped doing that root thing a while ago I don't think much needed for my messing around days are over.. I think you would be able to minimize ads through other venues...
