Robots already replacing people. Self checkouts replacing people.

Electric Cars imo is not progress.
I've zero interest in those and doubt we go 100% electric.
Toyota has already made a hydrogen motor.
They will come up with better alternatives while electric cars catch fire and can't be put out and start burning houses down.

Here in NV on the interstate from CA they had a semi truck turn over with lithium batteries in it and the I15 was shut down for 3 days and detour traffic while it burned and then had to be cleared.

They are so far away from perfecting those. The electric grid needs to be upgraded and they have done nothing yet. I think EVs will be scrapped at some point. They aren't selling well now either.

I'm not worried about the future for me,.... It's my kids and their kids.

Social media imo is an evil entity. So much negativity, AI generated false accusations.
We (USA)are one good hack away from being shutdown. We have had a couple small ones.
The new way isn't always the best. Convenience comes with a price.

Hackers stealing identities ....but hey, I just got a $88 check for being in lawsuit for a big company being hacked and stealing people's info lol. My name was in their database though nothing happened to me personally.

Just saying. Sorry for the long rant that isn't Pixel related.
We can't go electric because we don't have the power grid to support it. California which has the most EV's in the nation, have already been encouraged to charge their EV's during non peak hours because it's stressing their power grid. Wind and Solar are too intermittent to rely on. As for your second point, i'm glad i'm not 18 and just starting out.

Correct and government has done nothing for the infrastructure to support it and they need to start on it like yesterday as I mentioned in my last post.

Its why I think they come up with something else. We'll see.

California has also passed a law that no new gas powered cars will be sold in that state after 2035.
Then they tell everyone not to charge their EVs....oh and then they have rolling blackouts.
Its like a comedy....

But it gets better because it's a fact that the average American doesn't have $500 on hand for a medical emergency or the funds necessary for even vehicle repairs. Yet EV's are more expensive than gasoline cars and cost more to repair than a non EV car. They also chew thru tires much faster because of the vehicles being SO heavy from the batteries. Oh then of course when the batteries fail, that repair on average costs between $17K - 28K. It's much higher for luxury and Euro cars. (I know the above because I was in the vehicle maintenance business)

Still prepared to dispatch here. 😐.
I have to laugh at myself. We always knew the date would be August 22nd, which is SO much earlier than previous years.
And I'm still not happy I have two more days to wait 😁.

I need help.

Shame they're holding them. They clearly were in a factory ready to go probably before the event last week so just get it on a van and get it in my grubby paws.

Oh, no question! They were probably ready to go one and a half months ago. It's the same with videogame consoles. Leading up to the launch date, millions are produced and boxed ready to go prior to their release date. Just find and play the Carly Simon song Anticipation, it will soothe the long wait. We even had that song used as part of a ketchup commercial in the US. Us old farts remember that quite well. 🥰

I went back to Best buy again. I know one of the sales guys there that's been there for years. He's pretty friendly with me. I asked him a favor if he could let me hold the pixel 9 Pro XL without it being tethered down and try one of the cases on.

The guy was cool and accommodating. Said sure no problem. I know you.

My point with the pixel 9 Pro XL in my hand in a case and in my other hand my current pixel 8 Pro, in a case, I had a hard time telling a difference between the two. Both phones seemed nearly identical. Performance seemed no different, screens looked almost the same. The overall size and shape very similar.

Seems like another sidegrade. I remember when getting the 7 Pro coming from the 6 Pro, that upgrade seemed like the most minimal. Almost nothing upgrade ever between phones. Like practically no difference whatsoever.

Oh well that's smartphones in 2024. Year to year releases very minimal difference.

It seems like my XL is delayed until Monday.

Got the Bellroy case today and unfortunately the magnet doesn't feel very strong. I will probably return it.

You're definitely not gonna tell a difference between the phones with a case on.
But I definitely think there will be a huge difference in the devices given how the design has changed from sloping sides to completely flat.
It's the one thing I'm most excited to see (the design change).

There's no secret, I'm more of a Samsung guy. I'm here just enjoying the conversation among my Android folks and glad to see enthusiasm amongst Pixel fans. But 9 Pro XL vs 8 Pro clearly have a change in design that users can absolutely tell the difference between the two.

From the change in the curved side frame... users get a flatter design. And the camera array is different from the back as well, maybe... you are trying to rationalize the whole idea whether it's enough for you to upgrade. And if you want to stay with the 8 Pro, go ahead. But to act as if that there is hardly any difference between the two, that's false.

Edit... oh just noticed from @Aneres11 post, that you mention with a case on.

Well now. In a move I didn't see coming... Google have increased the trade in prices for older pixel devices including pixel 8.

So a regular 8 got you £345 and now it's giving £395.
And an 8 Pro was giving £392 (I think from memory) and now... £492.

Not cool at all, Google.
