on my order page my p8p is now showing Ā£492, so looks like it's a reverse best buy situation
Well now. In a move I didn't see coming... Google have increased the trade in prices for older pixel devices including pixel 8.

So a regular 8 got you Ā£345 and now it's giving Ā£395.
And an 8 Pro was giving Ā£392 (I think from memory) and now... Ā£492.

Not cool at all, Google.

I MAY have just ordered another XL in Rose Quartz so I can choose which colour I want. šŸ˜¬.

I also took advantage of the smaller Pixel Watch 3 deal at just Ā£199 which will also give me Ā£50 store credit back, so Ā£149 essentially. With my store credit for phone and watch, I will look to buy the new Google Nest, OR stock up on more watch bands.

Got the Bellroy case today and unfortunately the magnet doesn't feel very strong. I will probably return it.
Unfortunately this has been my experience with all magsafe android phone cases.

Honestly, when I saw you'd not ordered the Rose Quartz last week I was pretty disappointed, you always post such good quality pics when your stuff arrives so I was looking forward to it, so well done. šŸ˜†

I went back to Best buy again. I know one of the sales guys there that's been there for years. He's pretty friendly with me. I asked him a favor if he could let me hold the pixel 9 Pro XL without it being tethered down and try one of the cases on.

The guy was cool and accommodating. Said sure no problem. I know you.

My point with the pixel 9 Pro XL in my hand in a case and in my other hand my current pixel 8 Pro, in a case, I had a hard time telling a difference between the two. Both phones seemed nearly identical. Performance seemed no different, screens looked almost the same. The overall size and shape very similar.

Seems like another sidegrade. I remember when getting the 7 Pro coming from the 6 Pro, that upgrade seemed like the most minimal. Almost nothing upgrade ever between phones. Like practically no difference whatsoever.

Oh well that's smartphones in 2024. Year to year releases very minimal difference.
It's why I don't get one every year unless I have a problem with the current phone or its just an unbelievable deal.
Neither is going on here for me.

Exactly my point.

I have a feeling the pixel 9 Pro compared to the pixel 8 Pro will be another 7 Pro vs 6 Pro, which was basically the identical same exact feeling phone. Once you slap a case on it and start using it for a week, you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference between the two.

First world consumerism, gotta have the latest for no real reason, just because.

If I do got a pixel 9 it would be the smaller 9 Pro just to go for something different and more comfortable to use. But since I have a perfectly fine pixel 8 Pro currently. There's absolutely no reason whatsoever for me to upgrade to the pixel 9 Pro XL. It'll just be a waste. There's no difference really.

Now next year with the pixel 10 and the brand new hardware from tsmc that I could see being a worthy upgrade, the internals should be a massive upgrade. Way faster performance and smoother UI. Better battery life, running cooler and more efficient.

But that's just my opinion.

And I have a perfectly fine Galaxy S24 Ultra that's been paid off in full. I could use that as a trade-in through Best Buy to pick up a new pixel 9 Pro XL and probably pay almost nothing for that transaction.

My s24 Ultra just sits on the desk collecting dust. I don't even use it so I could easily trade it in and not really spend any money.

But after playing with the nine Pro XL at Best Buy yesterday, I'm just a bit underwhelmed. Yeah, it looks like a nice phone. It's okay but nothing making me excited and wild to upgrade to it from my 8 Pro. Just more of the same actually, maybe slightly better.

All of the above is true but when Google flashes a $740 incentive my way it tends to get my attention. Yup, next yearā€™s phone should see a nicer jump in performance but I love the iPhone look of this yearā€™s Pixel Proā€™s. I couldnā€™t pass up the high trade in value for my 7 Pro and a $200 store credit.

If you are in an Android thread on Macrumors, then odds are you are a bit of a phone/tech enthusiast and much more likely to upgrade yearly or try multiple phones per year.

It's one of my few vices that I splurge on in life so I choose to be less responsible with my money to enjoy myself a bit.

Way to kill the excitement. We don't need no justifiable reason to upgrade here! Let us enjoy the mostly pointless changes until we move onto the next thing. šŸ˜

I actually factory reset my s24U this morning. Still deciding between ebaying, or selling to music magpie. I could probably get another Ā£200 but increased chance of being scammed if I ebay it, and they gave me another Ā£97 for my trade in.... it makes thre phone cost overall Ā£60 or so....

Same for me and still has to be a great deal.
I've never been a latest and greatest type, and i use one phone. But when i do get another, I'd rather get the 10 than the 9 so I'll wait.
Don't need a 'backup' and don't need iOS. Just not my thing.
I've only broke one phone ever. Dropped the corner of my laptop on my Galaxy 7 and the screen went bonkers and died lol.
Just went and got the G9.

With the 200 credit and the 10% from the Google One membership, that's ~$331.00 on top of $700 credit for the P8P. Not bad at all. I'm sure I'll end up getting a Pixel 9 Pro Fold at some point so I'll apply that to it on top of whichever phone I decide to trade.

Modem improvement, better heat dissipation, and increased battery life which would come with those two is one thing I'm hoping for. I love the new build, it's a very nice looking device. The photography improvements that are likely to come with the new processor along with improved AI function. New and improved display. Upgraded selfie camera (i take alot of selfies with my wife and/or kids). Probably not enough for most people to bite, but interesting enough for me to go for it, especially with the trade in value for the P8P and the google store credits. ZF6 will probably have to go if I like it enough as I cant justify keeping all these devices and maybe even my beloved S24U. I always gravitate back to Pixel devices even though I think the S24U is probably the best overall non foldable device out there.
