I really hope Google fixes this. Samsung does the same thing with the status bar and it drives me crazy.
Still baffled why we have to wait until mid-September for the standard 9 Pro in the UK.
My trade in kit shipped and based on my return window, I have until Sep 11th to decide if I want to keep. The only way I would return it, is if my trade in price drops from the $540 value for my 7 Pro. It has a minor small scratch on the upper left of the screen. Stupid me, I put it in a wallet case along with some credit cards and no screen protector. It typically was in my back pocket. Besides that it is in mint condition.

I don't need to talk about it. Been using the Tensor G4 for 4 weeks now and it's faster in daily use than my S24 Ultra and there is a considerable speed improvement in camera processing vs 8 series. I'm so happy with the chip so far. Using the Pixel 9 Pro day to day is blazingly fast!

Just checked my OP Open, P8P, and ZF 6 and not an issue on any of them. I'm not sure I'd be able to get used to that.
Oh, I was referring to there not being padding under the hole punch, which is jarring. The status bar ends right at the hole punch; there should instead be some padding under the hole punch (like the Pixel 8 Pro phones and earlier).
Its the same across the entire 9 line. It’s really ugly and annoying. I wonder if Android 15 fixes this issue? It will drive my OCD insane.
One thing about Apple is that they would never ship out a phone with that kind of status bar.
Agree. Apple is fantastic with little details like that. iOS 17 was just a buggy mess for me. iOS 18, i'm withholding judgement till out of beta, but not much of an improvement so far in the beta versions (which should not totally be expected with a beta).
Here's how the status bar should roughly look. The icons centered on the first red line and the actual status bar ending at the second red line so that the padding is even on the top and the bottom.
I know it would be a huge status bar, but at least it would be even and centered.
Also, doesn't Material You call for the elimination of the pointless status bar background? If only Google demanded that developers (and Google) followed the Material You aesthetic...

Mostly agree, but Apple seems to have gotten sloppy. I have more UI hiccups than I used to. In the end it doesn't kill the experience, but just kind of weird to see.
Aesthetic-wise, Apple should be ashamed at how the tinted icons look. I can't believe they released that feature when it looks like that.
That one, I don't have an issue with, but I also haven't had a Pixel since the 3, so I don't really have anything to compare it to. And when I had the S23 Ultra, I never used tinted icons because only the Samsung apps would change, so it was pretty useless to me.
Perhaps Hazel looks better in person but i'm still glad I went with the off white porcelain.
