I am not really digging the color science, and HDR tuning on the camera.

It captures some nice detail, but it is really lacking in contrast, and dynamic range. Most of the photos I have taken look pretty grim, and muted.

Odd because punchy photos were Pixels whole appeal before.

Oh well easy enough to edit.

The AI feature is pretty impressive. It even seems to take into account the lighting of the picture

Ad me works surprisingly well also. If you were just scrolling social media, you would never know that this is a composite image.

The last one is pretty obvious...look at the hands on the right and the focus on the bottle and lower leg.

If you zoom in and pixel peep you can tell, but it is definitely passable for social media
Are we looking at the same photo? I'm no pixel peeper but I immediately recognized the person on the right is missing part of his hands/fingers--jumped right out to me.

I had a similar problem when I got my Pixel 8 Pro last year at launch. Photos just looked muted and I didn't love the results. Everything appeared washed out.
After doing some digging I found the culprit. Ultra HDR was turned on in settings and it was sapping all the colour out.

Not sure if yours is set to on but if you open camera app, go to settings, then advanced settings the option is right at the bottom. Knock it off and try snapping some!
If it's already off, then that's interesting!

It's funny because the description of ultra HDR in the options sounds like what you WANT your photos to look like, but it actually does the opposite 😁. Or so I found.

Thanks for the tip!

I took it off, and I also notice that rich colors in photos was off by default. I will try snapping some shots tomorrow with Ultra HDR off, and rich colors on, and report back

I know it's early on just one day in but a couple of quick observations, damn this face unlock is fast and accurate, fingerprint scanner is good don't find it leaps over previous but then again I didn't have issues with prior, battery life I think it's going to be much improved just going off my first day usage I ran it hard yesterday. Love the feel in my hand it's really my iPhone 15 PM twin No joke, the Pixel a smidge taller but you couldn't tell them apart other than the camera lens. I have to test out the speakers they seem to be a little tinny IMO though I don't use speakers that often but I don't feel like they are as rich.

I won't lie... I'm loving this phone. But AM constantly thinking about the smaller Pro 😮‍💨🤣.
Pray for me.

Don't even say that LOL. You'll have me second guessing and wanting to maybe try the smaller one out.

When does it even release, so many sites have it pushed out far.

I think it's 10th sept ISH onwards.
But here in the UK the Google store has seen the dates slip into late September for the non XL for all colours but the Rose Quartz. Which is what I'd go with anyway.
I haven't sent my trade in yet (pixel 8) so could just return and reorder and wait a week.

I'm seriously considering it. Having used a regular 8 for a while this phone is amazing but just a bit unwieldy. Especially with a case on.
