In other news, 24 hours in now and very much loving the 9 Pro XL.
Definitely enjoying this new design. The minimal, uniform borders and the extra bright screen are truly welcome to me.

Glad I have stuck with the Rose Quartz. Really like the colour and I actually think the metallic chrome sides of the device elevate overall look with this particular colour.

The battery life has been great. It is currently past 10pm here in UK and my phone came off charge extra early today (6:45am) as it was an office day. I haven't needed the charger 😎. So it's already a win for me.

One thing I'm struggling a bit with is the height of the power button and the placement of the volume keys. I feel like they could do with adding some texture to the power button so it's easier to identify when fumbling for it.

The haptics are really nice but I think this is the first Pixel that feels just a tinnnyyy but subdued in the haptics department. This is about as muted as I'd want. They're moving too far into iPhone territory with haptics for me, as in, almost barely there. They don't wanna go down that road as the iPhone haptic motor is amazing yet apple continue to do absolute nothing with keyboard haptics and you may as well have them turned off.

I still think we need Dolby Atmos and I will continue mentioning it in the hope Google actually listen. 😁

I haven't used any of the new AI features yet. Some of the photography stuff looks really good and could be useful. But for now I'm still enjoying circle to search, which I use a lot!

There's not too much else to say really. It's very much an incremental upgrade as we've discussed at length, but the small improvements to the design, screen, battery, all adds up for me. I also haven't seen any hiccups in performance or heat issues at all (yet, it's early days) which has been an issue in past pixel phones. The hate this chip gets makes me laugh as if it's some absolute garbage that can barely do basic tasks. 😁.

Overall I'm impressed. Oh one more honourable mention - the new weather app. Looks goooood. 😁
Great looking color but I can't pull that out at the hunting lease without getting my ass kicked 😂. In all seriousness I think that's the best looking color of this year's Pixels. Really great choice. I think the hazel is the second best but I just always go black.

Sounds like you and your friends have some masculinity issues 😏😅🤣.
But agreed, best colour 😮‍💨.

What app grid size do you all like to use on the stock pixel launcher?

I go back and forth with sometimes liking 5x5 or 4x5

I do miss the days when Google went silly with their Nexus/ pixel colors, specifically the panda which was mostly white with some black and would have an odd color volume and power button.

Or the Pixel 4 XL in "Oh so orange" color.

I go with 5x5. On my S24+ I have 6 icons which I really like.

One thing I've noticed is font sizes are all different in various apps or websites. I'm playing with font sizes and zoom etc. Weird that size isn't uniform across the entire device. Unless I'm doing it wrong 😂

Got my 9 today and sadly it just aint it.

Right side, especially between the power and volume buttons, makes a loud cracking sound. Kinda like the adhesive wasn't set properly and now it's constantly bridging the gap whenever any pressure is placed on the area.

Add to this, the phone stutters like crazy and it's looking like a touchscreen issue. As soon as your finger leaves the screen when scrolling for example, the judder is clearly visible. It looks like the phone is detecting a second input whenever your finger or thumb leaves the screen.

The sad thing is after I broke my Pixel 8a the choice was between finally ditching Google and going with something actually reliable in an iPhone, but again I chose Pixel and disappointment.

To preface I've been Pixel since the 2/2XL. I'm used to dealing with Pixel issues due to the price being lower. Now that Google is charging actual iPhone prices then we shouldn't have to put up with this garbage.

Inb4 the "I don't have these performance issues must be your device". Erm no, I've been back to the store and the demo units, even the P9Pro show the same issue.

This issue was also present in the Pixel 7 on launch, which was eventually fixed with Android 14. Currently running the new Android 15 beta for P9 and the issue is still there.

But then....you know.....not all of us have those issues. Right...you do know that you could have a bad device. It happens and sorry that has happen to you.

Notice where I said performance issues? Yet you highlighted the non-performance issue to try and make a point?

Hardware QC issues are nothing new, just look at how many people complain on here about their thousand+ dollar pro iPhones with gaps and sharp edges or display uniformity issues (an Apple classic).

Touchscreen issues are well known among early adopters of Pixels. Infact there are thousands of posts about the scrolling stutter issues that started with Android 12/13 which Google is only now finally fixing in Android 15, as they have acknowledged.

This is an entirely separate hardware/driver issue that will be fixed down the line without Google mentioning a thing. All Pixel 9's will suffer from it whether you notice it or not. That's the key point.

Apple have gone for years since Jobs' passing adding features while allowing performance to suffer with each release, yet most of Apple's users either dont notice or dont care. It's why Android has long overtook Apple for smoothness in it's OS. That smoothness is why when Google keep making the same mistake with each release it becomes very obvious during general usage.

I have not had encountered any of the problems you mentioned. However i'm puzzled by a comment you made. How is it a problem if the person doesn't notice it? I suggest you avoid the Pixel 9 series and buy an iPhone instead.

I have posted about performance issues in this thread...you should read the thread and get caught up in what OTHERS have said about this phone. I have used it side by side with my 15 PM and do not notice any performance issues. Then to be honest here you are the only one complaining....acting like if YOU have an issue then everyone else must be too....

Then lets be real here. Hardware issues happen and touchscreen issues happen. This happens to ALL PHONE MAKERS!
Just wait till the iPhone 16 release next month. Then head into the iphone forums here on MR. It will be filled with people having issues and complaints.
If you are having issues...go return the device for a replacement....or do us all a favor and just don't get another Pixel....

You're not going to return / exchange and try again? I don't have any of the issues you are having, but my screen came out of the box with a 1-2mm micro-scratch. Replacement is on the way. I've received iPhones with micro-scratches out of the box, it happens.

Just ordered this, I have the same case for the 8 Pro, and holy cow, the grip and comfortable feel in hand is off the charts. The sides have a ribbed rubber edge and it feels SOOO GOOOD in the hand, and gives super grip, and the back is flush with the camera making it really nice to hold. Overall it's an A+ for comfortable and great grip case.

I prefer to use a phone, naked, it feels great and makes it smaller in the hand. Some phones you can somewhat comfortably do that. A Pixel no, as in no ***** way, these Pixel's are slippery AF. You just can't use this phone naked, it will fall. My opinion.

My Pixel 8 pro felt great naked, but man it was super slick with no case. Same with the 6 Pro and 7 Pro all are crazy slick, will slide off anything. So a case is just a must, unless your cool with it hitting the floor now and then.

Chrome is truly unusable trash on Android. No extensions, no bottom navigation (unlike the iOS version), websites riddled with ads, no transparent navigation bar, and et cetera. It's awful. I just don't understand Google's laziness. Safari on iOS is an amazing browser in comparison.

I'm using the Soul browser instead, especially since I can browse full-screen with no distractions. I might switch back to Firefox since I'm not sure how private and safe Soul is.

I would disagree with Google being lazy. The reason Chrome is that way on their devices is because Google generates ad revenue if you use Chrome. Try Brave or Firefox.

As I said, I am using Soul and sometimes Firefox.

I disagree--Google is lazy. There is no reason for Chrome to be this bad even just aesthetic-wise. Just comparing the polish of Chrome on iOS vs. Android speaks volumes.

I agree. I think it's an absolutely terrible browser. It hasn't been touched for years and I can't believe people actually use it!
Samsung Browser for me! Top tier!

One thing Apple is good at is the polish of safari in iOS. Top tier, with iOS 18 the new distraction tool is great. I think Safari is my favourite browser on mobile and then Samsung Browser

100% agree with some of the thoughts of Chrome. It's really crazy that they would not clean that up.

My phone situation is not good as my package has not moved since Thursday and it's stuck in a hole somewhere at this point I'm thinking I might just go to a store and pick up the phone.

Just noticed these two questionable wallpaper categories on my phone 😀

Does anyone else have them? Phone was setup as new. Not sure what I've done to deserve this!
