Most here will probably trade these in for the "new" iphones coming up next month anyway.....
Negative. I'll hold my 15 Pro Max. The only thing I use it for really is to be tethered to whatever android hotspot I have and use find my to track the kids and I'll use it to send iMessage occasionally if blue bubbles is giving me issues on my android device. Also my favorite video cam and I'll take it to concerts.

Cut out of the office for the day and let the staff take the day off as well (felt guilty playing on a work day). Hanging with the wife for our 16th anniversary. First pics from the 9PXL. Little bit of distortion on the left edge of the drink in portrait mode but not bad at all.

I don't know..... I use my 15 PM and the P9PXL and I don't see difference in the camera to be honest. I don't see any performance differences. I think the battery and sound is better on my 15 PM though! But not to the extent to make big difference. Then FaceID is awesome!
But then the Google Assistant and AI, Maps, Photo editing, Notifications, AOD and call screening are better on my P9PXL.

I think there are pros and cons to each flagship smartphone. They all have their shortcomings. IMHO the P9PXL is worth the price.
Honestly I feel like going all Google now too, I got the 8a though... not the 9 series.

For my age it's way more of a phone than Samsung and the OS is leaps above IOS. Call Screening alone, notifications, multitasking, AOD on a 400 dollar phone compared to having to spend 1k on IOS to get AOD.

Really want to go all in too, sell my samsung stuff and get a pixel watch 3 45mn.

Agree on all but the pixel watch. No way I can give up my Galaxy Watch Ultra. It's absolutely amazing.

You're right. I guess I'll return my phone and spend $900 on an iPhone 15 that doesn't have an always on display, has a 60hz refresh rate, and USB 2 speed.

The iPhone 15 is a better phone in "things that matter", and yes, than can be subjective. The iPhone 15 has a significantly better processor than the Pixel 9, better cooling most definitely (only 9 Pro has the normal cooling) and better camera too. Pixel cameras are overprocessed af/non-natural and let's not bring video in the discussion where iPhone has been king since like the 4S.
So yeah, I'll trade the 60hz for all that.
I have been to countless gigs with iPhones throughout the years and it's the only phone where you can hear the music in your videos even when you are next to the stage.
I have had Windows Phones, friends sharing me OnePlus/Samsung videos etc. It's only somewhat recently post-2018 where Android phones have only just begun to be acceptable for video.

You cannot ask the money Apple & Samsung are asking give only (roughly) half-ish of the performance.

The Pixel remains what it has always been, a developer kit for Android enthusiasts.

Sure, some people will be more than satisfied with what Google is offering and I am sure the performance is good enough for regular usage.

And ultimately have decided to with the XL myself, feeling robbed, but I guess that is the price for day 1 updates and pure Android.

Robbed? With preorder deals how can one feel robbed by buying pixel 9??
Most of the goodies are with traded-in phones. This is my first Android. Hopefully I will be able to get similar trade-in offers for 10 next year or 11. Hopefully they get their chips right by then.

Most of the people who moan about the pixel chips never use half of its potential

It's more the media or fans of rival brands who bring it down to fit their agenda.

Google has seemed to have fixed some areas like a new modern, cooling system and better battery life. 3 underrated areas.

No doubt next year is when the chip will really be better with TSMC but Google has low key improved some key weak points of the 8 series

One thing we forget to mention about the Pixel's and why I continue to buy them is that they still use a SIM card. We still have a choice and I am not anti eSIM. Far from it, it's that carriers are still dealing with growing pains due to Apple forcing everyone's hand. In my case which I use Mint Mobile (last 5 years) and I do because I absolutely HATE contract billing where you need an accountant to figure it out. 🤣 And I only pay $15 per month, 5GB of data/hotspot and unlimited everything else.

In the case of Mint Mobile, I can only do two eSIM swaps per 12 months for free. After that I get charged. Possibly this will change in the future but for now, that's why I rely on SIM cards.
My carrier (Telenet) in Belgium, lets me swap my eSIM 5 times per month for free. The 6th time I have to pay a fee. Of course I never swapped my eSIM since I converted my physical sim card to eSIM.

See that's quite fair. I have several phones and sometimes I will swap them on average 3-4 times a month.

Noobinator was right about the USFPS. What good is it if you can't use a glass screen protector? At least the P6/P7/P8 for as much as we complained, at least worked 75-85% of the time.
I couldn't get that old optic sensor to successfully unlock for over 50% of attempts. Used hand lotion? Just washed your hands? Haven't washed your hands in a while? Even if it worked perfectly on the first attempt, minutes later it would then fail multiple times in a row even though nothing had changed...

The capacity sensor of Apple's Touch ID actually was not 100% reliable for me either, sometimes it would just refuse to work altogether and the next day it would unlock reliably all the time. Face ID is much more reliable and I prefer that on iPhones now.

The ultra sonic readers though? Those just work. They are the best kind of reader a smartphone can possibly come with.

Is it incompatible with screen protectors? Apparently so. Do I prefer an unreliable trash reader that makes me want to throw my Pixel out the closed window multiple times a day every day of the year? Obviously not.

You'll downgrade the display quality significantly with those protectors, there are leather cases that you can close on the front and they do a better job at protecting the display too. If the phone hits the ground flat with the display or the back it likely prevents all front or back glass cracks.

In the case of Mint Mobile, I can only do two eSIM swaps per 12 months for free.
What is an eSIM swap? You know you can have a dozen eSIMs installed and don't need to delete eSIMs when you want to switch to a different one, right? There is only a limit to how many eSIMs can be active at the same time, which is two for most smartphones, but you can temporarily turn the unneeded ones off.

I installed my eSIM when I started a new contract and the only time I will ever have to remove that eSIM and activate it again will be in x years when I buy a new phone.

No matter how you twist it guys.. in 2024.. the shortcomings are simply unacceptable for this price.
These phones should have simply been $200 less in each tier.

Wait for a software update for a camera fix on a "flagship" in 2024 ? 2012 called..
This is what Samsung does every single release, no? No matter how you twist it, some people are happy with the Pixel and do consider it to very much be a flagship. Next.

In other news, 24 hours in now and very much loving the 9 Pro XL.
Definitely enjoying this new design. The minimal, uniform borders and the extra bright screen are truly welcome to me.

Glad I have stuck with the Rose Quartz. Really like the colour and I actually think the metallic chrome sides of the device elevate overall look with this particular colour.

The battery life has been great. It is currently past 10pm here in UK and my phone came off charge extra early today (6:45am) as it was an office day. I haven't needed the charger 😎. So it's already a win for me.

One thing I'm struggling a bit with is the height of the power button and the placement of the volume keys. I feel like they could do with adding some texture to the power button so it's easier to identify when fumbling for it.

The haptics are really nice but I think this is the first Pixel that feels just a tinnnyyy but subdued in the haptics department. This is about as muted as I'd want. They're moving too far into iPhone territory with haptics for me, as in, almost barely there. They don't wanna go down that road as the iPhone haptic motor is amazing yet apple continue to do absolute nothing with keyboard haptics and you may as well have them turned off.

I still think we need Dolby Atmos and I will continue mentioning it in the hope Google actually listen. 😁

I haven't used any of the new AI features yet. Some of the photography stuff looks really good and could be useful. But for now I'm still enjoying circle to search, which I use a lot!

There's not too much else to say really. It's very much an incremental upgrade as we've discussed at length, but the small improvements to the design, screen, battery, all adds up for me. I also haven't seen any hiccups in performance or heat issues at all (yet, it's early days) which has been an issue in past pixel phones. The hate this chip gets makes me laugh as if it's some absolute garbage that can barely do basic tasks. 😁.

Overall I'm impressed. Oh one more honourable mention - the new weather app. Looks goooood. 😁

Really digging this Caseology case I got off of Amazon. It has tons of texture like grip tape.

I am a bit regretful that I went hazel. Wish I went with one that had the lighter color camera bar.

Oh well.

I do have great news to report though. This pixel has seemingly fixed my 2 biggest issues.

The modem is performing perfectly. My office is a true torture test for cellular connection. We do have a cell tower, but I am 7 stories of steel, and concrete below it. My Fold does get one bar, and can just barely use the Internet, and call. Pixel 6, and 7 had no reception at all.

So far the pixel 9 is holding reception fine, not chugging battery at idle in bad reception, and can still access the Internet almost as well as my Samsung.

I think that this is going to be my main phone for a while.
