I am switching this year for the first time to android with the Pixel 9 Pro. Are there any nice leather cases you can recommend?

OEM Google 9 Pro Fold case landed with me today... It's very nice; expensive for what it is, but it fits perfectly and I wanted to run something a bit more 'lighter' whilst I'm just at home...

Fitted the Spigen magsafe ring as well; I know it ruins the aesthetics, but it's functional for me, so comes in handy

Looks good. I've been trying to decide between this and the mous case which appears to be thinner.

Did you use anything to properly align the ring with the wireless charging coils inside the device? I may go with this setup but worried about properly locating the ring. Thinborne has redone their magsafe cases with a properly aligned magnet but man, those cases are nearly $100.

That’s a nice looking case minus the mag of course lol but I hear you. They should make the official cases with the MagSafe ring on the inside like Mous

I honestly prefer the camera on the 8 Pro. Many photos I've taken on the 9 Pro look a bit too unnatural. I think Google went to far with the AI enhancements and hope they tone it down in future updates. Perhaps it's just me.

The selfie camera is a huge improvement though.
I don't take selfies so don't care about that but thanks

The Spigen magsafe ring comes with a placement tool; but it's no good for the 9 Pro Fold, due to the placement of the wireless charing gubbins inside...

I lined it up initially on the Spigen Slim Armor Pro case (pictures are a few pages back IIRC) and I've just used that as a template, by eye, to place the new Spigen magsafe ring on the Google case; and it works spot on

Magsafe on phones is the best and worst thing Apple have done. Best because I love the accessories etc but worst because it's not built into all phones/cases.

Agree

Every case for my 15PM (and then S24U) were all magsafe; I have x2 magsafe charging stands (one bedside, specifically for the S24U and Samsung watches) and the the one on my desk, which is for iPhones/Apple watches. But all I've done there is buy a separate Samsung watch charger and blue-tac it onto the Apple watching charging bit 😆 - you can see it at the bottom 😬

Plus I've got my Magsafe phone holder in the BMW F31 (now the wifes) but if I buy myself the BMW I'm off to see tomorrow; I'll be fitting the same UGreen magsafe phone holder; so that's where it's needed the most for me personally

Early 9 Pro Fold Thoughts:

Wow, this thing is slim. Really impressive work by Google here. Almost feels like using my 9 Pro XL.

Both screens are fantastic. The crease is definitely improved. Better than the ZF 6, but not quite as good as the Open.

Charging is slower than the 9PXL which is to be expected with the published specs, but I'm spoiled by the charging speeds of the XL and much more by the OP Open.

For some reason the 9PXL feels like the more premium device. In limited use it is obvious which one has the superior camera although the 9PF camera is outstanding for a foldable. Haven't done any comparisons with the OP Open. Will try to do that this weekend.

Battery life has been good so far. I don't pay attention to battery life/SOT much in the first week after setup, but so far so good. I figure it will only improve after a few days.

Not sure it will pull me away from the 9PXL as my daily. The 9PXL is that good. But with $700 trade in + $340 off with my existing google store credit and then another $526 back in google store credit, that's $1566 off a ~$1900 device. It's sticking with me and I'll sell the ZF6 and possibly OP Open (not sure on that one yet).

Wireless charing is slow; but it does ok, more so if you can just leave it to charge if you don't need to use it, like me mostly during the day when at my desk..

Wireless charing its fairly fast in my experience

Sent off this evening as a return but some pics I took. Juuuust a touch too big. But I loved the new watch face. 🥲

<snip>

Honestly the only real compelling item for me this year is the new watch. I am still Really happy with my 8 Pro phone. While I like my Pixel watch 2, the thick bezels and (quite honestly) flaky connectivity with my 8 Pro have me laving at home more often than not.

It's not the fact that the button is there...it is how it is deployed. Long press..... lighter press...tap.... I do like the slide to zoom in and zoom out though. But for me it add a degree of difficulty that doesn't need to be there.

While I respect your opinion, I see things differently. Added features & controls (even if only select people use them) is a huge plus in a platform for me. Apple poorly supporting, later Dropping 3D Touch on the Watch and phones was a HUGE step backwards IMO. Had Android implemented 3D Touch style technology, wow, I can only imagine! (Absolutely no, long press is NOT the same thing, Long press + 3D Touch + 3D long press is more inputs than just the single).

If this button / input method was opened to 3rd party developers for apps outside of camera (similar to Action button), I see it being a valuable addition to many forms of software (video / photo editing on device for instance).

Plus I can commit crimes such as this with magsafe.

I have a similar case on my Pixel 8 pro. My wallet jumps between iPhone and Android so much that I think it has stronger legs than I do!

After 24 hours with the smaller 9 Pro I can safely say I made the right decision holding out for the smaller model and returning the XL.
Great phone. Really feels like the perfect device for me.

Think I may have been hasty with the return of the Watch 3 in 45mm, but I'm still going to possibly hold out on that for a bit. I can't really justify the cost when I don't use a smart watch for anything other than notifications and telling the time. But then I do wear it every day so... Who knows!

Last year I rocked the 15PM and 8 Pro and really enjoyed owning both devices. I only ended up selling on when I went through a break up and had to sell our house and now I'm living in my own house I moved into about 6 weeks ago. House moves and fees are so expensive, so I ended up parting with all sorts to help reduce costs.
Now I'm in in a good situation I'm considering going back to 2 devices. It'll either be a 15 Pro I get for a bit cheaper OR I may go for a regular 16. I like the iPhone and pixel combo but am not willing to go near the Pro models which do nothing different to last year's. The regular 16 and dat blue colour... lovely. Very OG Pixel. 😅😁.

we can agree to disagree on this :) But I would not deploy something that only a few or small set of the user base would use. I think most people forgot 3D touch even existed on their phones. That's how useful it was.....

We agree to disagree! :) but the mutual respect is something I enjoy about this subset of the forum!

To add a bit of seasoning to my viewpoint. Very few regular Mac users enable or use advanced features on the Mac, but they still ship and are fully supported. Without these, I would honestly be on Windows as a base.

- Terminal with ability to add in X11 and other Linux / BSD frameworks
- ability to enable trackpad tap, 3-finger drag without clicking

Personally I do not see issue with having options, or having them disabled or a bit hidden. 3D Touch is something I miss and will not forgive Apple for removing.

Ha omg I totally forgot about 3d touch until you just mentioned it!
I don't even think I ever used it. 🤔
