Haha for sure ..also nice to finally have T9 on dialer keypad too .. like finally welcome to forever ago
I do love the tinted icons and dark mode icons too, but I still cannot believe that Apple released iOS 18 without making sure every single icon would theme. This is not your same Apple from 10+ years ago where everything was polished perfectly.

It's been a long time since Apple worked that way where everything was polished before it was released. I do miss those days. I've not even tinted the icons yet as I'm still using my custom shortcut icons. When I get some free time I will have to dig through some of the options. Photos app seems to be the change where most people are not liking it lol.

And I forgot to say probably one of the most favorite things for a lot of people might be hiding the app altogether..lmao

I do like setting up face ID to get into some apps

You would need to go much further back than that because iOS 7 was a disaster when it was first released in 2013. Apple Maps was the butt of most jokes as well. I would say iOS 6 was the pinnacle for Apple. By that time, Steve Jobs was on his deathbed.

I never actually got to experience iOS 6 because I was only on Android until I finally got the iPhone 5s in 2014, after iOS 7 came out. I will say, Apple used to have a polish though that was still present not that many moons ago, but it's progressively gotten worse year after year. It's still tough for me to really get away from them because the hardware and accessories are still top notch. And as I get older, the thought of switching software completely is scarier than it used to be.

I’d argue iOS and software/apps on iPhone/iPad still generally feel more polished than on Android. I try to use as many of the same apps across both platforms and if one of the versions feels less well done, it’s usually the Android version. Also, I find much of the same icon failures on Material U—so many icons and widgets just don’t change with the theming meaning it’s often nearly impossible to get a cohesive home screen setup without having to leave apps in the app drawer.

And speaking of widgets, while Android is better with allowing more in-widget functionality, because there is no mandate on design, so many of the widgets just look like crap and won’t fit with theming. I wish Android required one version that fits with Material U and then devs could create as many others as they wish of varying colors/designs. I appreciate how all of the widgets on iOS have a consistent appearance or at least, sort go together.

Again, lots more flexibility and choice with Android customization but still feels often not possible to get a consistent look without compromise.

I feel like the issue with delayed notifications is worse than before. I just unlocked my phone and got Gmail notifications that I should have gotten two hours ago. I have disabled adaptive battery and completely disabled doze but it doesn't seem to help.
It's not just Gmail but also other popular apps. Perhaps more of a general Android issue than a Pixel issue.

Thanks. Unfortunately I haven’t seen any improvement. Even disabled doze with adb.

Ah gotcha damn 🤦🏻‍♂️, I’ve not seen the issue myself with emails coming in timely and sometimes best my iPhone or come in same time. It looks to be a wider issue and think you are correct with not just the Pixel phone

Not to keep derailing this thread, but yeah, I had the same gripe with the S23 Ultra when I had it earlier last year. Tons of customization options, but I'm slightly OCD and want everything to match, so I really struggled with using any kind of icon packs (without tons of tedious tasks to get it all to match).

I'm hoping Apple can figure it out. There are still some 3rd party icons like Amazon and Reddit that don't change, which is pretty frustrating and embarrassing.

I was gonna ask anyone that uses Spotify if they get their podcast notifications relatively on time but I fear that given the above I know what the answer is…. :(

Spotify notifications are delayed. They sometimes come to the Pixel an hour after they come to the iPhone. Same thing with Pocketcasts.
Luckily Whatsapp notifications seem to come on time but this makes me not trust the phone and can't use it as my main device which is sad.

Delayed notifications are a huge issue with my Pixel as well. It has been an issue with Android generally for years. It is an Android issue.

Most of my notifications are delayed, including e-mail notifications and notifications from news apps and my school app. The latter especially is frustrating. None of these notifications are delayed on my iPad. Sometimes the same notifications take almost an hour or longer to arrive on my Pixel. Holy ****.

I have no idea why Google thinks this is acceptable. At this point, I might switch back to an iPhone. I can’t deal with the delayed notifications anymore, especially from very important apps. I need reliability.

Is this an issue on Galaxy phones too? I don’t remember being upset by it when I had the Galaxy, but I could have forgotten.

Notifications on S24U is not as much delayed. It's something I've learned to live with and honestly it doesn't bother me that much anymore. For emails I started to use Outlook instead of Gmail and then there's just a couple other of my apps that has delayed notifications, but they're not very important and I can live with a delay for those.
