For me, this is the first time I even noticed Pixel phones.. I will be watching the event tomorrow and I’m excited, I really want to leave Apple ecosystem and this could be the phone I am looking for..
This is coming from an Android user although I do own an iPhone 13. The iPhone is still the best in class smartphone. They set the bar hardware wise for everyone else. Now if you are thinking there's some Google software you really need on your phone that's a different matter. For me, nothing beats Google's Call Screener because my phone number is a business number and it typically gets 200-250 Robocalls a month. Call Screener eliminated all that by 99.99%. Maybe once every 2-3 years a Robocall will get thru.

All of the above is the reason why Samsung and Google released folding phones.....
I have no doubt that's the case because I have been saying for awhile now that we have been at diminishing returns with Smartphone technology for quite sometime. There's really ONLY so much you can do with a smartphone and there's only so much you can do with a Tablet. Long gone are the days of Siri, Internet access, App Store, front facing camera, rear camera, Pay with phone. It's all been done ad nauseam.

Now we are basically down to how smooth is the device during operation, how bright is the screen outdoors, and of course OMG what exiting new colors will we see this year? That's where we are today with this matured tech.

Agree, and this is why I'm seriously considering moving from my 15PM and AWU2 to the newest Samsung or Google foldable but with the Samsung Watch Ultra (the Pixel watches are just too small for my wrists, even at 45mm they look tiny/thin); the chunkier watches suit much better

However, there is a thought that I might just get the SWU and pair it with my Google Fold and forgo any mobile phone 'upgrade' this time around...

There's just the EE upgrade I've got in the pot looming in the background; that's a serious temptation 😂

The other thing that I like about Android over iOS is the system navigation with Android. I own both iPad's and iPhone and I can't seem to shake the idea that there's no back gesture on the iPad and iPhone. I'll slide from right to left on the screen and nothing happens. I love the system navigation on Android but no there's doubt they copied Apple's idea of removing the Home Button and using gestures instead. Both are well done but I much prefer Android's take on the idea.

THIS. Android UI navigation is just ten million times better. Plus I love swipe down on the screen to pull down the notification shade, as opposed to on the iPhone, you swipe down and some strange search menu thing pops up, which just seems so bizarre and odd, like why would I want to swipe down and then search my phone, search for what? I want to swipe down to bring notifications down quicker and easier to access.

Yup; prices feel very high here in the UK

Trade in prices are laughable

I'll see what Google release re their next Fold (official release, not leaks) and then decide whether to go new Pixel Fold or swing over to Samsung for their ZF6 and Watch Ultra and say goodbye to my 15PM and AWU2 (and 1st Gen Pixel Fold), which I'll probably replace with an 8a simply for business use
Where are you seeing trades in prices? You should wait until tomorrow. Google often do additional money off (or on?) trade ins which is always good.

Re my excitement level - it's high. I'm a pixel fan boy, after all! And not ashamed to admit it. No one does cameras like Google and I think their hardware also looks the best. Their visor camera bar design has become iconic and here in the UK it's always nice seeing other people with pixels. They're becoming more and more common. 👍🏼

Can anyone confirm the Pixel 9 Pro XL will have a 6.8 inch display? I might have to get the P9P XL is it has the same display size as the S24U.
It is strange that I am more excited about the P9P XL than the iPhone 16 PM.
I have had every iPhone since day one.....
While I don't see myself buying an Android anytime soon, I'm with you on the iPhone 16 PM. This might be the first time that I actually just decide to not upgrade and stick it out with my 15 PM.

Are you looking to get the 9 Pro? Or the 9 Pro XL?

See, different strokes…

I much prefer the swipe down to search shortcut and reflexively do it on my Pixel Fold only to have the notification shade come down. 😂

I navigate around my devices with search—access less frequently used apps, go directly to specific files, notes, search the web, etc and instinctively do it on all my devices. To quickly access the notification panel, I can just double tap the back of my phone.

If I had primarily developed my habits on a Pixel, I’d probably have adapted just fine but as my Pixel is my secondary device, I have to consciously break my muscle memory.

I’m not sure if anyone will know, but is this an actual Google Pixel advert? Because if it is it’s the best advert I’ve ever seen 😂. I don’t think it is because of the swearing in it and it seems too long for an advert, but the character in it is so funny.

Yes...navigation is so much easier on Android than IOS imho anyway. I use both as well.
I also like the way notifications are handled and displayed on Android versus IOS.
Then i think Pixel phones display notifications so much better than other Android phones and IOS.

The thing for me was that I first developed my habits with the iPad and started using gestures with iOS 5 which I thought was very cool. Apple then removed the Home Button and switched to full gestures for navigation. That's when Google introduced their version of gestures and once I started using them, I compared the two and found I much preferred Google's gestures over iOS.

I hope Google has the pre-order open after the launch event or even a week later. Hopefully they don’t release in September.

Sorry; I was talking in general

Trade prices always seem to be very poor in the UK compared to across The Pond as an example

Oh yeah agreed. Google's and Samsung's in the UK are always the best though, I find. So hopefully they offer an incentive to those with existing Pixels 🤞🏼

Whichever route I go; it won't be via a trade in

I'll sell via eBay when the 80% off selling fees are live - never had issues with this route and it's much better now eBay has their own payments system rather than PayPal!

How are you getting on with it?

The more I look at these, the more they tempt me to stay away from the ZF6 and keep my pixel Fold for a foldable; but sell on my 15PM etc
I love it, I did originally intend on keeping my 15 Pro but after a week I can't see a reason to so I sold it and gone all in on my S24 Ultra.

Still salty I scratched the screen within 24 hours when everyone online tells me it can only be scratched at a level 7. 😂

Oh balls... This is why I'll never not use a screen protector. My hands are rough at the best of times with the chalk I use for training etc; plus it'd REALLY annoy my OCD 😂

Yeah; the S24U is making more sense to me than the ZF6 if I'm going to sell my 15PM on (and AWU2)

Just ordered the Galaxy Watch Ultra and I know it'll work with my Pixel Fold fine; but thinking of keeping that rather than going for Google's latest Fold and getting the S24U to go with the Watch Ultra for full functionality

I've just bought my wife a new iPad Air as she has to give her current work MacBook back as she's changing jobs; so the need of an iPhone for Apple Music / AirPlay 2 etc has now diminished even more...

Absolutely hate eBay. Awful company.
I've often found pixel trade ins are more than what you can get on eBay. As per all androids, resale value drops like a stone and pixel 8 pros are lucky to get over £500 on eBay now. Add the fees in (even reduced) and you're not getting much more than trade in.
Plus you run the risk of some absolute moron not paying, which happens more times than not.

Anyway, not long to wait now! Exciting! 😁

Sounds like you've had some issues...

In the 15+ years I've used eBay; not once had an issue (I do tend to buy more than I sell; more so when it comes to parts for my cars etc)

But the tech I've sold I've never had issues; it's always been cash (now bank transfer) upon collection or payment via their Managed Payments, never PayPal though (probably why I've never had issues) - do not trust PayPal; never have/never will - fraudsters paradise!

Trades are typically the highest on pre-order day and a few weeks after that. That’s how I got a $300 trade in value for a P4a from Google. The MSRP was $349.
