Bought one, same 6/27- 7/03 delivery date as well.
How is UDC more immersive considering there is no hole punch at all on the Pixel Fold? (No hole vs. camouflaged hole?) I think I’d still prefer no hole at all and a much better camera. And yeah, the inner display camera is vastly better than Galaxy Fold. But Fold users get UDC technology which allows for a more immersive experience.
That's the biggest problem with the foldable price point right now. You don't get top end specs whether it's the CPU or the camera compared to the highest end slab phone. My biggest reservation about this phone is the Tensor 2. With a phone at this price it should be considered your flagship device and shouldn’t be released with a year old processor. The Tensor 3 will be out in the pixel 8 just a couple months later. Really giving me pause even though I’m really excited about the device. Makes me consider holding out for the Z fold5 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or Gen 2+.
Say hello to the Oppo Find N2 and the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2. Both available for around €1200,- import price. The Chinese are killing it, but somehow reluctant to release it world wide. That's the biggest problem with the foldable price point right now. You don't get top end specs whether it's the CPU or the camera compared to the highest end slab phone.
420 for my few months old 7 Pro? I was totally expecting 600 enhanced value like I got for trading in the 6 Pro.
And I hate how they, again, have certain storage configs tied to colors. I want white 512, no go.
My buzz is killed.
I ordered bc I was probably going to upgrade my Z Fold4 to the 5 but figured I’d try something different as the Pixel experience has long been my favorite on a phone. I like the front screen and aspect ratio on the inside better as well. The fact that Google is giving around what Samsung usually does for trade in value of the Fold I figured why not give it a go. If the Z Fold 5 looks like one I can’t live without then I imagine I’ll trade in my S23U but I feel it’s going to just be a refinement of the Fold 4 and I can probably hold off till next year. So likely combo will be S23U on my personal line and Pixel Fold on the work line. I think I can live with that a while 😀It looks pretty cool but I’ve got no budget for it. Or time to play with something like this, sadly. I’m still on track to look at Pixel 8’s later, though. Foldable still isn’t my jam since I need dust resistance.
I’m going to watch you guys play with it and report on it.
My husband is thinking about it but I would be surprised if he actually goes for it.
People still use taskbars LOL stopped using them a few years back when Samsung allowed to remove it and use the side bar thats customisable etcI’m really feeling that dock on the Pixel Fold/Tablet… ca’mon Samsung, revise the taskbar!
Yep you can see immediately from a productivity perspective how much more is available on the Fold 4 on 1st openingI can’t see any argument to think the pixel fold looks better to be honest. Pixel fold when opened it something you would expect from a first time foldable device being released.
Competition is good though Samsung sure as hell needs more in the main markets.
Pixel fold certainly will beat Z fold for cameras and having a periscope lens though.
Multitasking though Z fold remains king for productivity
I think for your needs and if you want that all in one device maybe pixel fold is the one to go for.Lord Jesus give me the strength.
I only paid $800 for my fold 4, so this is seriously tempting.
As others have said, I am worried about the processor. One of the best things about my fold 4 is insanely good battery life.
Will be seriously tough to go back to mediocre battery.
Then again the worst thing is the sub par cameras.
They are so bad that I just bought a pixel 7 to take on vacation with me, because I cannot rely on them to produce quality images.
This thing seems to fix every issue I have with my fold, and one thing I noticed is that it maintained water resistance which was a big worry since the early rumors said it wouldn't have a rating.
I think I am going to go for it
If I can get $100-200 for the pixel watch BNIB it will only be $800 out of pocket.
I will be honest I use my fold 4 most of the time in portrait modeAnd this is why I don't like the idea of a device is superior to another. It's having a preference on the design choice between Samsung and Google.
The argument of "bezels give a chance to grip" doesn't hold water to me... when it comes to holding the device companies have built false touch features to prevent such a thing especially for tablets. In addition to that, whenever I hold my Fold... having bezels to grip is not something that's needed (imo).
And yeah, the inner display camera is vastly better than Galaxy Fold. But Fold users get UDC technology which allows for a more immersive experience.
I use my iPad far more in landscape, but when it comes to the Fold... I use it more in portrait. I don't think its a one size fit all kind of scenario. Sometimes I like using the Fold in landscape... but it's not a situation where I overwhelming use it one orientation like the iPad.
Don't get me wrong.. I find the Pixel Hardware appealing as well, but the only advantage I give it over the Fold is the outer display being wider. But again, I don't think one device is superior to another.
Agree it is, that front display is ideal if you aren’t in the right situation to open the device upIt's seriously ugly. But the cover screen is better than what Samsung provides.
I think you are referring to the Edge Panel that allowed to pin apps to the side bar… Samsung removed that in favor of the taskbar.People still use taskbars LOL stopped using them a few years back when Samsung allowed to remove it and use the side bar thats customisable etc
Google bar just looks a variant of Samsung slide bar but at the bottom but nice
I'm curious what the game plan is with features they plan implement...I agree they did not mention anything as if they are holding back or simply still testing through it hahaOne thing that surprised me about the presentation was the lack of fold specific software features. I figured Google might cut some corners on hardware as they do, but try to justify that high price tag with a lot of cool foldable specific software additions. Nope. It’s essentially just a foldable Pixel 7 Pro with some UI tweaks. No power user features and only the basic level of multitasking. That price is looking tougher and tougher to swallow.
But I think they nailed the form factor. Hopefully Gen 2 eliminates some bezels, adds a more efficient processor, and drops price before Samsung gets their head out of their ass and creates a better form factor.
I’m not too worried about camera specs. The Pixel line has never really had the absolute best camera hardware. I’m certain the camera will be a noticeable improvement over the Fold 4 even if not quite as good as the Pixel 7 Pro.Been reading about this the last few days and watched MrWhosBoss YT video on it too...
Overall it looks an excellent idea and phone but it's a bit lacklustre too IMO
The camera specs put me off a bit as does it being on the T2 chip. As others have said the Fold should be their absolute flagship with the best specs possible. Thats what's expected really at those asking prices...
The plus for me is that the front screen is wider. I did have the Z Fold 3 for a month and overall it was good. But I've slab like hands and relying to messages on the front screen was a painful process...
So I'm on the fence re this currently
Well, there are some foldable specific software like the dual mode feature where a Pixel Fold user can speak to the phone and it translate in real time on the cover display. One thing that surprised me about the presentation was the lack of fold specific software features.
