Thanks for the recap.

I’m wary of the limitations of locking into a carrier for 3 years in order to see the full value of the trade in promotion and my monthly mobile price increase would more than offset the savings so if I pull the trigger, it’ll be through Google. Doesn’t hurt that I have $200 in credit waiting at the Google Store and already have their interest free financing option available to use.
I'm not locking myself into a 3 year contract given the accelerated innovation with foldables. With Verizon you can upgrade after you paid off half the device. AT&T disgustingly requires you to pay a $6 a month 'Next' fee for the honor. If this were slab phones, then I think a 3 year promo makes total sense as there are less reasons than ever to upgrade. In 18 months I might want the GF6 or the GPF 2 (if it arrives to the market). I also think we might see a folding iPhone by September 2025.

Wonder what, if anything, they will do for the UK. Could do without a free gift this time (already got the watch and Pixel Bud Pro’s) but it does help sweeten a deal for anyone new to Google’s ecosystem. I’d like to think most of the early adopters will be people with Pixels, though, so free gifts almost seem a bit pointless. I imagine they have a fair bit of stock left over from the watch / buds though as I don’t think they’ll have sold many stand alone (particularly the watches).

I am also intrigued by the trade in options. Hopefully they will allow the trade in of a 7 / 7 Pro…

You aren't really locked in. You can sell the phone or payoff the phone at anytime - you just lose the remaining bill credits. You can also sell the phone and keep the line for 36 months using a different device. They don't care what you do with the device - just keep the line active for 36 months.

I already laid out how it’s the same price essentially for 18 months of service via the three options. And I think that’s a good estimate for when I’ll want to upgrade. But yes you can always buy your device at any moment and sell it.

If you already have an upgrade eligible line and are paying for service anyway, I think the carrier deal is better but I understand your point

Well this changes things. Did not expect the PW2 this fall.

So I guess I'm gonna actually use the free PW and then sell it and make a decision once the PW2 is out and I can compare it to the GW6 series.

Great more Folds on the market is good news for all :)

Whilst I prefer the richer UI of Samsung OS I understand the attraction of the more vanilla UI on the PF

The PF aesthetics look better than Oppo etc and on par with Samsung F4

I'm not a heavy front screen user but for many having a wider screen is appealing however for my usage it alters the more productive taller portrait aspect when 1st opening on my F4 and I rarely rotate to landscape, so in that respect I find it a bit of a compromise :)

I wish I could say I am tempted but without the SPen its a pass and the Fold 5 with its improvements is not far away

I hope all the reviews are positive and its a worthy alternative to Samsung :)

I’m actually pretty excited about this since I easily prefer Google Android over Samsung Android but I still think it was a missed opportunity to not wait for the Tensor G3 and Samsungs new fab process. The 7 Pro doesn’t have the best battery life (love the phone though) and I just don’t know how the efficiency of this chip scales to a foldable. I have serious questions about that.

I think they should have waited a little longer but I definitely plan to test-drive it at the very least.

It's up for preorder already on the store.
£440 trade in for my 7 Pro.
£1749.
I really don't know if I even want one... 😬

A pass for me. Cover screen and the design of it is a solid 7. Inner screen a 2. But hopefully it triggers a whole new android experience, with better software, which utilize the bigger screens.

I think the biggest thing holding me back is that I just don't know if I really need a foldable. S23 Ultra is boss and I don't want more than 1 phone.

Yeah I don’t feel compelled or excited by it… not sure why.
It is also crazy expensive and I know that if I did buy one, I’d likely get it start of July (judging by delivery time frames) and then it would only be 2 months before new iPhone and Pixel 8 and I would end up just going back to a ‘normal’ phone I think.

I also don’t think I can justify the price for what it is offering. Foldables are cool an all but is it £1749 cool? Not for me I don’t think.

I am aware that as the weeks go by I may end up justifying it in my head, but for now I think I will hold out and see if my feelings change.
