Well, yeah.. for you. Cause you looking at from the perspective of unfolding in landscape ratio (whereas I think that’s more of preference).. however, not sure how you come to the conclusion that bezels are selling points.
A ton of people, not just myself, are going to see the inner screen as a massive selling point due to the default aspect ratio. Even with those thicker top and bottom bezels.

Looking forward to it, but those bezels should not exist in today's smartphone... that's my point. Perhaps, its a cost cutting angle to it. Maybe Samsung charges more for camera hole punch displays.

Interesting... you like the taskbar as is on the Fold series?

But the cover display was never in question... that's the main selling point tbh. I'm curious where are the images of the inner screen? That's where the criticism comes from in regards to the bezels...
Yeah i know it's not large but it's not in your face. it does have a good use case like with ipad dock for example.

I’ve owned every Fold to date and sold them all. The battery life has been poor on all of them and the front screen is unusable because it is too narrow. And I have small hands. Sure people can get used to it but it’s a poor experience. The pixel solves problem 2. If battery life is good it’s a winner and a far more usable device than the Fold. Just my two cents. I’m on the fence because the price is too high. May wait for carrier deals As I’d rather get a trade in deal than a pixel watch. Or wait a month and grab on swappa. If the fold is any indication, the will be selling for 1200 within a month of launch. But the pixel may not be produced in high volumes so it may keep prices up.

While I would prefer thinner bezels of course, I really don't think it will play a factor in sales. What will stop people from buying potentially is price, lack of water and dust resistance, and Google attempting a foldable for the first time.

Yes agree with you on all those points price point and first gen probably lack of good trade in offers will stop people over the bezels

I expect plenty of good trade in offers from carriers.

Hopefully that helps plenty of peeps who use carrier upgrades and transfers ...they are going to have to offer them if they want to sell ...I've never been into monthly credits but I see the appeal

I don’t see the problem here. Looks fine.
I personally like thinner bezels but everybody has their own opinion of what they'd like not saying it's a problem but if I'm looking at the screen all day long I like to have a little less bezel

it's just the bezels aren't what people are used to on foldables. on tablets it's seen as fine as thats what the normal standard is certainly when holding the devices.

The positive thing is a selfie camera on the phone will be a lot better than the one on the Fold... I know that's not important to some people but that under screen camera's not the best

Not a chance that the battery life would be good. Will probably be the common complaint, together with the bezels. The G2 SoC is inferior to the Snapdragon Gen 2, except for the custom tensor cores. The phone design is otherwise on the right track.

gotta admit this looks fantastic! Then add in the whole Pixel software experience and it seems like a winner to me.

I don't mind the bezels to be honest. IMHO provides a way to hold the device without touching the display.

I haven’t been actively reading the thread recently but saw the leaks and I have to agree—looks pretty good.

I’ll agree on the desire for smaller bezels on a smartphone (rumored front screen bezels look great in this regard) but when open, it’s really a small tablet. One can hold a smartphone with one hand without touching the screen but doing so on this device in landscape wouldn’t be possible unless you have pretty large hands.

I have an iPad Mini and without know the exact dimensions of the Fold, it’s likely somewhat similar when open. Having a little bezel makes holding it without hitting the screen much easier.

Haven’t had an Android phone for a bit and not sure I’ll take the plunge on the Pixel Fold but it’s the first phone that’s peaked my interest in quite a while. Will be following this one a bit more closely.

Here's what I pulled from Evan on device specs wise

Thank God it has water resistance. That's a huge deal.

May 10th is going to be a very interesting day to say the least.

It looks like a great device. The form factor looks almost perfect for a foldable IMO. I’ll definitely be watching and reading posts from those of you that get it.

I just can’t pull the trigger on this. The bezels honestly don’t bother me. It seems like a lazy decision to not make them smaller but it’s fine. But hesitancy is still because of Google QC being questionable and the price being too high for what it is.

What I’m most curious about is what added software features Google will include to support foldables. Will they be Pixel exclusive features or built in the OS from here forward? IMO the Pixel Fold and the Pixel Tablet are hugely important for android if they want to expand from just phones and really have an ecosystem like Apple. They need a high adoption rate to get devs to support tablet UX apps. Or just make it mandatory in the android ask or something along those lines.

That's the thing right there we need to get Google to push foldable development... Software needs to improve overall for everyone for better running apps most definitely

The bezels remind me a little bit of when I got the 4XL and we were all complaining about the top portion being weird but it served it's good purpose and I think Google didn't want to go with the punch hole or under the screen camera.. and lose out on the camera..

Do I like the rumored price? Of course not. But considering what’s included in the device, there’s no way a foldable like this will be close to the price of an iPhone Pro Max or Galaxy SXX Ultra.

If I ultimately give it a go, it’ll literally replace my existing phone and a cellular iPad Mini, devices that cost a combined $1900 (yes they’re both stupidly expensive in their own right). In that context, the cost is much more palatable.

Very curious to see the details from Google. If Evan’s specs are correct, I’m seriously considering a dip in the Pixel Fold pool. ;)
