That's the thing right there we need to get Google to push foldable development... Software needs to improve overall for everyone for better running apps most definitely

The bezels remind me a little bit of when I got the 4XL and we were all complaining about the top portion being weird but it served it's good purpose and I think Google didn't want to go with the punch hole or under the screen camera.. and lose out on the camera..

I’m sure they could still have made smaller bezels and avoided an under display camera but I get it. The bezels don’t bother me that much, I just think it’s an easy thing they could’ve made better.

And yeah, fully agree on the software side. Samsung has done a lot of work with one UI to make up for the shortcomings of android when it comes to foldables. It would be huge if android would natively support it from an OS level which I’m sure Google is working on. If they made those software features Pixel exclusives it would be a huge mistake.

Not the highe

Not a chance that the battery life would be good. Will probably be the common complaint, together with the bezels. The G2 SoC is inferior to the Snapdragon Gen 2, except for the custom tensor cores. The phone design is otherwise on the right track.
You may be right and if true then no chance for me. For people who get a lot of emails a day, the F4 is unacceptable. It was getting 4.5 SOT new and requires a charge at least once a day. Lots of people claim high SOT but they get that watching Netflix. Not actually using the phone for work with emails and phone calls. If the Pixel can’t beat Samsung in the battery department it’s a nonstarter for me. I need a phone to last me a typical day at work. So that’s a shame. I guess we will see.

This does sound really good. I think my only reservations would be if they actually built software to utilize the inner screen. And then of course who knows what kind of hardware issues will plague you release. Definitely one of those phones to buy on Swappa about a month or two after it's released for about $1,100.

Wow. What a great teaser.

Can't remember the last time I was this excited for a phone to be announced. Probably not since iPhone 6/6 Plus with the larger screens.

I love that Google have just shown it off in full prior to the event. It had practically leaked completely anyway, so makes sense to just confirm it.
I wonder whether there will be any other colours or if it’s just this white.

I am excited about it, but am I wanting a foldable device as my full time phone? I’m not sure when I actually think about it.
I’ve also just bought an iPad and can see the usage of that lessening if I have a foldable with a big screen that I can consume media on etc. The sensible thing to do would be to just wait it out and not buy one, but the keyword there is sensible - something I am not when it comes to phones. 🤪

Yeah, I stood in line for the 6 Plus (waited overnight lol)... I was like the first 10 to 20 people to have gotten it.

But the Fold gives me those vibes now... when I bought the Fold 2, it wasn't powered on initially when unboxed... I marveled at the engineering that went into it first. So, I'm excited to find out your first impressions... Perhaps it will mirror mine.

Kind of a bummer that the launch date is nearly 7 weeks after the reveal. Kind of a strange way to release a new product. Also, not a fan of the Google exclusive window through May 30. Carrier deals should be available at the same time and presumably will be more attractive than a free watch. Seems like a decidedly consumer unfriendly launch strategy. I guess Google can lock in (take advantage of) early adopters.

Verizon told me they will offer $1000 off if you open a new line with them. Probably the same or similar offer if you do a trade-in deal. AT&T I imagine will offer the same deal. T-MO a slightly worse deal.

Yeah probably $1000 in bill credits in ATT over the standard 30 months. So $800 plus tax over 3 years. Not bad.

Man I gotta say is really has me excited. I might trade in my P7P on this and open a new line of service with Verizon. I wonder if they will combine trade allowance with the new line of service bonus?

No. You are better off buying a cheap used Android device on Swappa, like the Galaxy S9, and using that for your trade in/new service offer. Sell your P7P locally or on Swappa.

Really been looking forward to the Pixel Fold but if it's $1800 I'm likely out as well. I'll probably go with the Fold 5 if they are at the same price point. While the Tensor 2 is nice, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is a battery beast on top of much better performance. I might just wait and see what the Pixel 8 Pro is like and hold onto my Fold 4 and skip the foldables altogether this year.
Such a liar😎

I won’t be buying it unless I trade in my fold 4 which is highly unlikely but I’m excited to see what this will be software wise. Google going from strength to strength. Hopefully see pixel tablet as well in this event

So I crunched the numbers in my situation and wanted to share in this thread in case someone is in a similar boat. I'm a post-paid AT&T customer with a single line. I wanted to see what it would cost me if I stayed with AT&T and purchased the GPF from them vs. purchasing from Google and staying with AT&T vs. switching to Verizon. I also assumed a few things....

*$1,000 trade-in offer with both carriers on a 36 month contract.

*Paying $100 for a cheap Android device on Swappa to use as the trade-in and keeping the funds for selling my iPhone 13 on Swappa or locally.

*I could get $600 for the GPF if I sold it in 18 months if I bought it from Google.

*I could sell the Pixel Watch for $200 without opening it.

For Verizon and AT&T I priced it out in a scenario where I would upgrade from the GPF after 18 months and trade the device back to them and grab another trade-in offer. I also took into consideration the cheapest plans that are eligible for these trade-in offers currently.

(To make things more simple, I'm going to exclude sales tax on the phones and taxes and fees for carrier service.)

GOOGLE STORE

GPF $1,800
Insurance $180
AT&T Service: $900
- $200 Pixel Watch Sale
- $600 GPF resale after 18 months
Total: $2,080

AT&T

GPF $400
Insurance: $306
Next: $108
AT&T Service: $1,170
Swappa: $100
Total: $2,084

VERIZON

GPF $400
Insurance: $306
Verizon Service: $1,260
Swappa: $100
- $200 Gift Card For New Line
Total: $1,866

Yes, Verizon is the cheapest by $200 in this scenario. But I'm leaning towards the Google route personally because I'm lazy and it will let me take the GPF to Italy. Another thing to note is that the GPF will come unlocked from Google and unlock automatically from Verizon after 60 days. The AT&T GPF will not unlock unless you pay it off entirely.

T-Mobile is far more expensive. They only offer 24 month contracts, they currently only offer $800 off the Fold 4 (and I'm assuming the GPF as well) their insurance is more expensive ($25) and their trade-in offer requires you to sign up for a plan that is $90 a month. Factor in the Swappa purchase and that total works out to $3,800.

Last note, I'm sure Best Buy will have a special offer too at launch.

Nice recap, I already have a line on Verizon that is upgrade eligible so I’m either doing that or going through google. All depends on the trade-in values for both. I also have a fold 3 that I’m looking to trade-in, but may be better getting something like a pixel 4a from eBay to trade in and selling the fold. Also have an s22 I can trade in, but was might keep that to use for the pixel 8.

Thanks for the recap.

I’m wary of the limitations of locking into a carrier for 3 years in order to see the full value of the trade in promotion and my monthly mobile price increase would more than offset the savings so if I pull the trigger, it’ll be through Google. Doesn’t hurt that I have $200 in credit waiting at the Google Store and already have their interest free financing option available to use.
