Would Google release the fold 2 next year or would they skip a year? Part of me wonders if this is another niche vaporware product that gets swept under the rug.

I do have a little interest in this phone but it looks so fragile and expensive I could see it ending up like the device in the bend test after a work shift in my pocket 😖

That sucks. A gen behind on a more expensive phone, to get the new flagship months later...
This is the reason the Fold series annoys me. It's extremely expensive, yet you don't get the same spec as the flagship "slab" phone.
I know they have restraints with the form factor etc, but it's still a kick in the teeth.
Having said that, the improvements Samsung have made to their fold series over the years is impressive. They just need a different form factor for me to be interested.

In agreement

Now I've been back in ownership of my Pixel 7 Pro... The thoughts of spending £1800 UK Sterling on a Pixel Fold have largely gone out the window... More so as I've an M2 iPad Pro and my M1 MBA...

Now I've let the newness calm off; I'm wondering what actual realistic use I'd get from the Fold!

However; I'm due to renew my mobile SIM only contract with Three in September and have already been emailed about being able to upgrade my contract with any flagship handset and still pay the same per month (I've been with Three since the dark ages)!

So may look into it then... But for now; I've decided not to go for the Fold as soon as I can, but hold off and see what's what a few months down the line

The only area phone manufacturers have any right to cut corners on a foldable are with cameras because of the physical limitations. Cutting corners on chipset, screen tech, etc is just penny pinching and is an insult to the customers paying almost 2k for these devices.

With the sole exception of the front screen dimensions, the g fold 5 looks superior in every way shape and form. The problem is the front screen dimensions are almost a complete deal breaker for me. So we are left with the Pixel and it’s fairly long list of compromises and shortcomings or waiting to see what one plus brings to table. As I sit here waiting for my ATT model to ship, I’m getting really close to canceling my order. I’ve read enough here and on Reddit of poor battery life and overheating to realize this phone may not be ready for the prime time.

I think that, really'; that's all going to be very much down to personal opinion...

For me now seeing all the reviews I have; I've shelved the idea of getting one ASAP and will see what my thoughts are come September when I renew my mobile con tract with Three and whether I include a device on that or just stick with SIM only

can you elaborate? I’m seeing lots of unhappy owners on Reddit. Talk me off ledge!
Nothing beats this form factor. I have the smallest phone and the biggest phone I've ever owned, both in one. My pixel 6 pro feels like a monster in comparison, I can finally reach everywhere in my phone and not claw my way through lol. But at the same time, once open, I have the biggest real state I've ever had, while remaining as thin as my pixel 6 pro with a case.

I get it. The nailed the form factor. But the rest is very average. That’s where I’m struggling. It’s a one trick pony. A good trick but the rest of the phone seems to not be worthy of a flagship or even a mid range. The internal struggle is real. The one plus looks closer to the z fold than the pixel although maybe a bit wider.

I know it has some downfalls but overall the pluses outweigh any negatives.. The phone runs super smooth... You're getting all the Google features that you would with a Google pixel slab phone .. but you have a manageable closed phone with a bigger canvas when open.. it's a slam dunk form factor for sure... I'm not seeing any of the heating issues so far.. battery is average but that's okay. Just bump charge one time during the day if needed or anytime you get an opportunity.. I mean most of us are near a charger most of the time anyway, but I feel like peeps refuse to charge during the day lol.. Don't get me wrong. I'd love the battery on my S23U and would love for this phone to be the same way... Outdoors brightness is a Google thing which I've mentioned over and over. It just annoys me but I will deal with it lol.. The phone gets bright at the beginning, but on purpose lowers to save heat and battery I guess ... At the end of the day I turned in my Flip4 trade and I'm keeping this bad boy ... It will be in my daily rotation..

I'm not sure what else is mid range. Cameras are great, and yeah battery is what it is. As for the chip, it does everything I throw at it

Well, I have the Fold 4 and am keeping it until the Fold 6. Maybe, I'll get the Flip 5?However, I am watching this thread and others to see how well the Pixel fold holds up. Hopefully, the PF pushes Samsung to up their foldable game. Thanks for being guinea pigs.😄

I think the Pixel Fold will certainly give Samsung some motivation to improve on their Fold series... we can clearly see the effect it has on Samsung by pushing the release date for the Fold series along with rumors of a reduction in price.

I like the form factor of the Pixel Fold, but that's pretty much the only advantage it has over the Galaxy Fold (imo). And I believe having that advantage is a huge deciding factor in choosing the Pixel Fold over the Galaxy Fold, even MKBHD feels the same way.

Samsung has to address that issue... but I don't know if their plan is to replicate the Pixel Fold form factor or widen their existing design. And if they plan on widening it... will that result in having a larger (8 inch inner display), which I'm kind of mixed on it because you lose the one handed appeal on the outer display (regardless of it being narrow).

I rather Samsung go with the Pixel Fold/Oppo Find N hardware design... but that would mean a drastic change.

If the Galaxy Fold lineup switches to this form factor, Google are in trouble. I finally got my hands on a Pixel Fold today and while it felt great in hand and software was great (as Pixels always are), build quality and hardware feels like a notable step down from Samsungs. But what stood out the most is how bad the inner screen looked and felt compared to the Fold 4 (Saw them side by side at T-Mobile store).

Question has anyone been using the sunbird app and if so have you been able to keep messages coming to your phone number?

I never go side by side with phones ...you will always see a difference and Google is calibrated differently....no doubt I love Samsung hardware though ..they are top notch

Interesting, I have owned all of the Samsung Fold's besides the original, and the build quality and hardware from Google is the same to me. Was certainly a worry, but best build quality I have seen from google to date.

I've also made some apps as Restricted, apps I don't need running in the background, also helps

That's always a good idea... there are quite a few apps that really don't need to be running optimized
