I think the Pixel Fold will certainly give Samsung some motivation to improve on their Fold series... we can clearly see the effect it has on Samsung by pushing the release date for the Fold series along with rumors of a reduction in price.

I like the form factor of the Pixel Fold, but that's pretty much the only advantage it has over the Galaxy Fold (imo). And I believe having that advantage is a huge deciding factor in choosing the Pixel Fold over the Galaxy Fold, even MKBHD feels the same way.

Samsung has to address that issue... but I don't know if their plan is to replicate the Pixel Fold form factor or widen their existing design. And if they plan on widening it... will that result in having a larger (8 inch inner display), which I'm kind of mixed on it because you lose the one handed appeal on the outer display (regardless of it being narrow).

I rather Samsung go with the Pixel Fold/Oppo Find N hardware design... but that would mean a drastic change.
I believe the GF6 will be the model where they finally give us a proper wider outer screen. I expect the inner screen to get larger too. Most likely 7.8” in the next generation. I also think people are downplaying the importance of the no gap design of the GF5. They won’t adopt the shorter outer screen of the GPF.

I am out on the GPF. I’m glad it exits. I’m excited to see the GPF 2.

For me it’s between the GF5 and OnePlus Open at this point. Both phones should be available next month. I’ll wait till reviews drop for both and then I’ll pull the trigger.

Any recommendations for a type c controller for

gaming that could somehow work well for landscape mode? The one I have only works in portrait. I would like to use the additional bigger screen for more real state while playing

My phone was at like 97% when I went to bed, so I didn't plug it in. Woke up and it was at 82%....so even if it's on standby, doing nothing, it goes down by that much?

Anything I can do there to fix that?

You definitely have something running you shouldn't be seeing that much drain overnight...
I'm reading it may be the always on display, apparently it doesn't happen as much when phone is faced down, I left it faced up overnight. Maybe I should just turn it off

AOD should not affect it that much.. I'm going to test overnight tonight and see... I usually charge at night

That could be a possibility... My phone is on DND overnight.. do you leave yours running normally?
DND? What do you mean by leaving it always running?

With aodnotify the screen is always off until I get a notification

If you test this overnight, make sure keep the phone face up, not face down

I've never kept the phone face down lol I like to see my phone hehe

... DND = do not disturb

I keep all my phones in DND overnight with only favorite contacts that can get through for emergencies...

Agreed

AOD could definitely be the culprit. Please try it again with it off. AOD could be 1 percent per hour anyway. That’s too much standby drain. I’d expect 4 or 5 percent drain overnight at most.

I use the app aodnotify which keeps aod always off unless I get a notification, and then turn itself back off. I enjoy getting notifications this way, would suck if I have to turn it off, even when date and time is NOT always showing for me

Doesn’t google have that feature stock? That’s just a wake Lock Screen notification. Weird you need an app for that.

I get this nice preview and you see the ring that forms around the camera. I really like that. Maybe I'll turn it off with Flash notification in Android 14

I found those iPhone style island notify light apps are battery vampire since P7P. Although paid for full version, never managed to use those finally to save batt.

Guess some background settings for aodnotify will help with batt drainage but couldn't care less.

Flash notification in Android 14 will be the official pixel way to do this. Maybe that helps

One more week and the GF will finally be readily available everywhere.

Google has extended its free Pixel Watch to July 21st. It used to be July 2nd. I guess that's a way to clear stock until the new one is released in a couple of months.
