Foldables aren't really a viable format for phones from a longevity standpoint IMHO. It's akin to the latest new craze that gets phased out once the novelty wears off.
Lmao they've been around for 5 years and they aren't going anywhere. They may not generate the sales numbers of traditional slab phones but there is a market for them or Samsung would not be on their 5th iteration of the Fold. I have yet to have an issue with the longevity of durability of any of the foldables and I've had every Samsung Z Fold and now the Pixel Fold. From a productivity standpoint they are hard to beat and they are also nice for media consumption when I'm traveling. Don't need to carry a laptop or tablet anymore to remote into my office PC. I just carry my foldable phone. Again I don't think they will overtake sales of slab phones in the near future or ever but there is certainly a market for them.

They are certainly here to stay and will have a place on the flagship devices. They are improving slowly year on year for design, getting lighter and becoming more like normal phones.

If price ever gets to that 1100-1200 range they may take a higher sales level. Not sure we will ever see best cameras in them though and for some that's the downside.
The Pixel Fold camera is really good. Definitely not Pixel 7 Pro or S23U level but it's much better than any other foldable I've used. Space constraints will always be an issue. I dont ever see getting the zoom of an S23U but I'm ok still having a really good camera with the package the Fold offers as a whole....and I'll pull out my S23U or P7P in situations that I might need a bit better camera.

Speaking of, how is the zoom on this phone? Like if I were to take a 10x pic, is the software good enough to make it usable? And for those who have had it for a while now, has the battery improved?

Still getting this bug on Android 14 where it doesn't register my full swipe as I navigate the system. So things like scrolling and swiping up to go to the home screen barely work. Only happens when using the inner display. Hope they fix this soon, seems to happen randomly.

Battery has been really good for me. Not s23U good but not trash like reviews would have you think. That said it depends on other variables as well like carrier and their reception in your area. As much as I like TMO every time I put their sim in one of my phones I get significantly worse battery life whereas with AT&T it's very good.

Attached pics are 10x from across the gym I'm at for my kids game. Not bad at all. I'll try to get some more later. I haven't really taken anything more than 5x thus far.

Checked this phone out in person today and wow. They nailed the form factor big-time! Not sure if I could go from an iPhone 14 PM or S23 Ultra to this mostly because of the battery life and lower specs but kudos to Google.

I'm just leaving BestBuy.. I'm playing around with the Fold 5 and I'm saying to myself wow I hate this form factor.. hardware wise everything else is excellent with Samsung but they need to change ASAP

Yep. Especially since everyone seems to say that they use the outside screen 80% of the time. You need that screen to be easy to use.

Gotta be honest I was really close to pulling the trigger haha.

Haha that's something that I would do... Lmao

This phone is definitely not perfect but you will see a lot of people just can't let the phone go and love the experience it's all about the user experience. .

Yeah, I been thinking about that, but will probably wait until the final version is released and get off the beta.

Yup yup I hear ya …if it’s unusable then no choice do the factory reset in 14 beta to see if fixes and if it don’t roll back since you factory reset anyway

I think they will next year. Samsung aren’t dumb. They’ll have seen how many people prefer this form factor. And since they don’t care about muddying their lineup, I could see them just releasing another style foldable device more like this and even keeping their current form factor as separate devices.

If Samsung copies the Pixel form, Google are in deep ****. While many tech people prefer Pixel software, we’re a small community. Samsung brings better build, better specs, more experience, more software catered to foldables (and the lack off app support), and the willingness to offer huge trade ins for those that adopt on day 1.

IMO, Google have a year to improve hardware (better inner display, refine bezels, minimize crease), improve software/performance (g3 hopefully, increase 3rd party support), and lower the cost. If they go into next year with a similar form factor as Samsung and everything else besides OS being inferior and cost the same, it’s going to be a tough sell. Especially if the OnePlus foldable manages to be decent and come in at a lower price.

With regards to the hardware the only thing I see that needs to improve to match Samsung is the bezels. And I kinda like having some bezels where I'm not getting accidental touches all the time. I'd for sure like to see them minimized a bit though. The crease in my opinion is about the same as Samsung. I'd like to see them both improve upon this. As far as the displays, the Samsung Fold display does seem a bit more vibrant but the Pixel's is still outstanding. I want Google to improve the software experience more than anything. While I still prefer the Pixel Fold overall the Samsung Fold is a more capable device. I really do wish the Pixel had something that functions close to Samsung's s-pen. Also I love the ability to create app pairs and have floating windows. Still love this device more than any though but that Z Fold 5 is all of a sudden giving me a little bit of an itch 😂. My S23U or 14PM might be on the way out 😲

No way the Z fold suddenly changes form factor and leaves their current fanbase behind. Some people do in fact like that form factor.

What they need to do is release like a new phone variant. Maybe like a Z Fold Wide

Disagree with a lot of that.

-Better build quality? Having owned 2 GF's over the years and now a PF, I'd say build quality is the same. What makes you say the GF has better build quality?

-Better specs? In some areas, yes but in other areas, no. The cameras on the PF are much better than the GF.

-I see no difference between the GF and PF inner displays. The GF5 gets brighter, sure. Creases are the same, screens are the same. Bezels on the PF? A non issue for just about everyone who has used one for a period of time.

I doubt Google will ever use voodoo to stretch apps like Samsung does. Google will try to get devs to make large screen apps.

I prefer Samsung OS but I don't think Google needs to do much with a PF2. Pen support might be a must, especially if the GF6 comes with an integrated pen. A Tensor G3 processor? Yup.. Further refinement? You bet.

Having said all that, IF the GF6 is similar dimensions to the PF (shorter and wider) with a usable cover display then I'd make the jump back. Why? I prefer Samsung OS and it's customization options.

The fit and finish of the galaxy fold is definitely better than the Pixel. Not just the size of the bezels, but the material used is nicer, the hinge is better and snaps perfectly flat. It definitely feels like a gen 5 vs the Pixel which feels like a gen 2.

To each their own. I much prefer the hinge of the pixel fold. Fit and finish wise the only thing that looks of less quality to me is the inside due to the bezels. Everything else is just as nice in my opinion until you start talking internals where the Tensor 2 is not even in the same ballpark as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The Pixel cameras are all better than what I had on the Fold4 and the under display camera is a joke. Samsung needs to scrap that and go back to the hole punch
