My battery life was about the same as yours until I installed the 14 Beta. Plus you know, the first couple days an Android phone gets terrible battery life. It usually takes about a week to settle in.
Yeah this is my first full charge.

I heard android 14 people are getting much improved battery life

I will test some more today ...didn't add it till late in the day when you posted...I got almost 6 hr SOT overall with 12% left when I threw it on the charger for the evening
I was over 7 with 30% left yesterday. All on Wi-Fi but still pretty good. I've been seeing around 8 hrs quite often with mixed network usage.

Been a few days now since I’ve had my Fold.
My thoughts haven’t changed greatly since I first unboxed it. It’s a very cool device.

I think there are some annoyances that could become heightened over time. The biggest gripe I have is the inner display and the screen protector that’s factory fitted. It just never looks clean And collects every single little piece of dust - drives me insane.

The app situation isn’t that bad for me as it’s only X (twitter) and Instagram that I find bothersome. The workarounds aren’t too shabby, although there really should be optimised social media apps for these style of devices.

The camera performance of the Fold is fantastic. I see no difference at all to the output of this phone vs my 7 Pro.

Battery life has been great, zero complaints. Easily getting 6 hours plus SoT a day. I went straight to the 14 Beta when I got the phone (the sweet Lock Screen options got me :p ) so no idea whether the Beta has brought battery improvements as all the reviewers panned battery life. Not that I trust any of them. Scouring YT and the amount of click bait videos is pathetic. ”THE TRUTH”. “IPHONE USER SWITCHES TO PIXEL FOLD”. “PIXEL FOLD, I WAS WRONG ALL ALONG”.
Exhausting!

I think where I am struggling the most, though, is what benefit is this phone giving me over my 7 Pro?
It’s heavier, for one. I took my dog for a walk today and was wearing joggers (sweat pants for you American’s? :p ), and they were almost falling down with the weight!

Obviously the inner screen is the differentiator. But I am having to use the outside screen more for some apps that just don’t look good on the inner screen, which kinda of dulls the shine a bit.
In fairness, I haven’t watched much YT or streamed any tennis via Prime this week yet which is activity I normally do a lot of, and I know when I do get round to that I will find the Fold comes into its own more.
I also haven’t started reading ebooks on it yet, something I am excited to do as it is quite literally the perfect form factor for that.

I think it could be a case of using another phone for a few days and then finding that I miss the functionality that the Fold gives me. Or, I might just not be bothered about having a bigger screen. I definitely think it would be the former.
I’ve never been much of a multi-tasker with my mobile phones though. I don’t do apps in split screen side by side as I have absolutely zero need for it. Having said that, I have just opened X and Insta next to each other and that was pretty good as at least they’re in the correct resolution to run properly on the inner screen. The problem then though, is the phone forgets they’re paired if you close the phone and open one of the apps on the outer screen.
I thought Samsung Fold had an option to ‘pair’ apps to open together? Could have dreamt that.

I guess it’s little things like that which could make the experience a little better. The app situation is out of Google’s hands (their own apps are fantastic on Fold), but the QoL options for owning a Foldable need to be improved. Do I think they will? Nope. But lets see.

Hello all.

Surprised we haven't had a thread posted for this upcoming device.

As much as I like my 14 PM, I am more than ready to move onto a folding smartphone. No interest in the Z Flip line. The Fold 4 lacks dust resistance and that outer screen is too narrow for me.

It appears my only options in 2023 will be the Google Pixel Fold and Z Fold 5.

It's a shame that a folding iPhone doesn't seem to be coming anytime soon. The one time I switched to Android was when Apple was late to the large screen game and then I switched to the 6 Plus when that day finally came. Will probably do the same with folding smartphones.
You have a LOT of apple devices. I personally would not switch and would wait for an iphone 15 pro max. Same screen size but with wayy better performance and its more affordable

My thoughts
That’s a good summary. You should let the relevant parties know of your thoughts, because you deserve to be listened to for being one of the first to pay big bucks & purchase this device.

But what‘a the point of going from a 14PM to a 15PM? That’s not a smart use of money.

I got the impression @blairh is tired of slab phones altogether & wanted to go Foldable?

Yeah I posted the OP a long time ago and a lot has happened since then. I don't like the GPF for various reasons. I opted to try the GF5 but ended up returning it. I won't consider a foldable moving forward until they have no visible crease and dust protection.

At this point I'm probably getting a 15 Pro Max. Will use the largest iPhone screen every year until Apple makes a foldable or we get an Android model with what I stated. Whichever comes first.

In this case he shouldn’t upgrade then

14PM to a 15PM? Pointless move, especially if you’re saving up for a foldable in the next year. Your money…
I mean I don't think the crease is going away in the next year and that's a dealbreaker for him.

As for the upgrade, I kinda a agree but USB-C and a long-overdue periscope zoom would tempt me if I were to go back to an iPhone.

got to admit the app issue is bothering me slightly. The work around apps is nice but for what I'm paying i just having some buyer remorse. As much as I dislike the Z fold front display I think the Z fold 5 might be a better investment into a foldable. The software does seem better overall and while bezels aren't a massive deal to me looking at the Z fold 5 it is far more pleasing.

I may get the Z fold 5 and just make a decision which one to keep. I love the pixel front display though but i do plan to get the pixel 8 pro anyway so maybe having an iphone, Z fold and pixel gives me the best of all 3 brands.

Understand your frustrations and that combo of phones might be best for you ...for me personally I didn't want to keep the Pixel 7 Pro not that it was bad but with S23U being so much better IMO I couldn't see keeping it...maybe the Pixel 8 will change my mind but just like this form factor for my daily usage ...I don't see an advantage for me to use ZF5 except being annoyed daily with that outside screen lol

Yeah it does depend on your usage, I intend to use mainly as my tablet. I was going to use the pixel fold as my work phone but I couldn’t use that front display on fold 5 as my work phone but would stick with pixel 8 pro for that I guess.

I know we'll laugh about it later but for now I'm sticking with the folds that I have now and not planning on upgrading... Lmao

Good photos. Brings back memories. The last baseball game I attended was September 29, 2004. The last ever game of the beloved Montreal Expos.
Ah nice ...good memories... stadium is much different nowadays but for the better ...I always enjoy a great day at this park ...

I saw a game at Shea Stadium sometime in the 80s. Things change, sometimes for the better but not always. Jarry Park in Montreal was a small venue with wonderful atmosphere. The Olympic Stadium was a cold cement cavern, completely unsuited for baseball.

It's definitely all about the atmosphere.. some of these stadiums get too corporate..
