$18 to $20 billion per year, folks. But Eddy Cue thinks you’re a moron because he testified that Apple would’ve gone with Google anyway because it’s the best. The money is a sideshow you guys! We don’t need it and it doesn’t influence our behavior but we have taken it annually for many years.

Yo Sundar stop letting scammers and complete criminals from buying ads on Youtube.

But of course you won't do that. Anything to bump up the share price even if it hurts everyone else.

Youtube is drowning in scam ads.

“While Apple iPhones come with a number of Apple-created apps installed, Apple has never offered a pre-loaded third-party app, which is likely why the company did not accept Pichai's proposal.”

What about YouTube?

Or Google Maps. For years.
Those were first party apps using third party service APIs on the backend. Neither of them were made by Google.

I trust Apple to make the best decisions for me as a customer. What I don't want is the government interfering with best-in-class mobile experiences.

People who think Apple should just forego the $20bn a year in Google search revenue, you do understand that money will need to come from somewhere else?

Of course Pichai wasn't CEO at the time, but Google was certainly a deep deep partner with Apple when iPhone launched.

Then Google came after Apple with Android. So it's a bit of tough ask.

We should count ourselves lucky that the big tech companies aren’t cooperating more and for example decide to merge all Google/iCloud/Facebook/Microsoft/Amazon accounts so that everyone can be tracked everywhere.

They did! It's called Safari.

And Siri search.

Besides the applications others have mentioned - remember when iOS itself was deeply intertwined with Twitter and (IIRC) Facebook?

Define deep? The Twitter/Facebook thing back in iOS 5/6 was a precursor to share sheet now, just an API call. It's not like you were getting Facebook/Twitter content on your Home Screen.

I honestly don’t like Google, but Google Search, Google Maps and Google Mail are the best.
This is true. If you don’t mind a company using cross site trackers on virtually every website you visit, then combining this data with your search terms, reading your emails, noting your geographical places of interest, in order to sell your profile to its advertisers then it is indeed the best.

Personally? Nah!
Duck Duck Go, Apple apps will do me fine.

Had this exact thought myself. YouTube was the defacto way to watch videos on iPhone at the time, as Flash wasn’t able to work on the iPhone at all, and HTML 5 wasn’t even a thing.

I want to say it got pulled…. iOS 5 or 6? I mean there is the technicality of it being the iPhone OS prior to shortening to iOS.
Were these apps made by Apple and using the Google API's or were they completely made by Google?

Apple can make their own search engine and monetize it via ads

That was an Apple-made app that used the Youtube backbone. YouTube back then had to create an entire backbone and converting of videos to HTML5 for that app in order to have support as Flash, which was the default for viewing videos, was never available on the iPhone.

Put aside our desire for this NOT to happen but I cannot see how Sundar sees this as a good idea besides being a monopoly. It's like your financial advisor shouting out to you "Hey, I know you've been diligently putting money away into 401ks and IRAs and you're on track for financial success, but why don't you just go rob that armored car tomorrow, and that $4 million you could pocket... you can retire tomorrow." It's like yeah, there's an obvious success if you pull it off and if Sundar pulls this off, but how will this not be an immediate monopoly/antitrust red flag? IT's going to be scrutinized to death. Sure I can imagine someone having an idea at a bar like this and joking and laughing it off but to go as far as to pitch it and push Apple to accept it... lol. Some people were really high when they made those slides to go to Tim Cook.

Also Apple's not known for just allowing bloatware the way Samsung and other phone makers allow 3rd party software to just be loaded up left and right. For Apple to pre-install a Google app, another industry giant, is a big deal.

Apple. As Mikey44 said, you couldn't use the YouTube Web site on a iPhone until Google went to H.264. It took several years to transition. H.264 was only available using the Apple designed YouTube and Apple TV apps.

Also, Apple's YouTube.app didn't have ads. So, once the agreement ended with iOS 5, Google started building there own app for iOS with ads.

I would leave Apple,
I just degooglized my devices as much as I could and I'm very happy
Just dealing with Apple Bugs here and there
Not using google just DuckDuckGo and sometime others . Sure they will get my infos too but at least I'm fair
and let all of them be my vultures...🦅🙄

Suuuure you would. Where would you 'go'? Jitterbug? lol
