Mine too! Mine too! It just shipped from China today! The estimated delivery was Nov 3rd tho. But my gut says it's arriving sometime Nov. 1st !! =)

YEAH, mine too! est ship date by Oct 31st, delivery Nov 3! Shipped 1AM this morning! hopefully with 2 day shipping it'll get here WEDNESDAY!!!!! woohoo.

I called apple on Saturday PST time to cancel cause my local store had one...but they said it was being already being prepared to ship.

well technically it shipped on the 30th (shanghai)...but i dont want to think about it like that. :p

DHechler, Apple would never tell any of their lowly clerks when new products were slated to arrive, because there would be a leak. GUARANTEED.

I ordered a 15" for portability (and cost saving) as I have the 30" ACD, (which turned into a big Dell vs. Apple display debate when I mentioned it earlier...)

But for those that think a 17" is too big....

What about this, LOL

:D :D

And that 20.1" is measured width-wise. I wonder what the diagonal is. Must be monstrous.

Found the specs :) (For machine linked 2 posts above)

Width
18.7"

Height
2.4"

Depth
13.9"

Weight
17.2 lbs ---> Oh my..

Battery life is @ 1.5 hrs...

Why Buy 17" Instead of 15" C2D MacBook Pro

anyone who wants a larger, higher-rez screen, longer battery life, faster DVD burner, extra firewire port, full speed GPU that ramps to the task at hand and a machine that historically has had much, MUCH less problems with heat and mooing than the 15.

why would you not spend $200 for that?

and i assure you i do not have any intention of characterizing anyone as stupid, only some of their logic. so if i have offended anyone in that respect, you have my apologies.
Extra USB2 Port you mean. It also comes with a larger 160GB HD folks. You really get more bang for your bucks with the 17" if you can afford it. The upgrade price from 120 to 160 on the 15" is $100/$90 Ed. So excluding that HD upgrade price, you're really getting:

1. A much bigger 436,500 more pixels of screen space - 33.7% more space than the 1,296,000 pixel 15" screen - total 1,732,500 pixels
2. An extra USB2 port
3. A bigger battery
4. Faster 8x ±R SuperDrive Writes DL 4x vs. 2.4x on the 15"
5. Guarenteed to run faster 'cause the auto processor-too-hot-slow-down "feature" won't kick in nearly as often - if ever.

for only $200/$210 Ed more. Pretty great value. Plus you don't have to special order anything 'cause it's all included in the stock config.

When the 17" C2D MBP goes refurb they are going to be a killer bargain at probably $2199 - the current old $2799 Core Duo 17" refurb price - $100 less than the 2.33GHz 15" Ed price new. I'll be waiting for that deal to happen in January with iLife '07 tossed in the box. :D

Found the specs :) For the Acer Aspire 20.1" Wide SXGA Luggable XP computer.

Good grief! Might as well put a MP on wheels...17.2 lbs!
I chose the 15" over the 17" because...
a. Have a MP desktop + 30ACD + 2407, I'm not hurting for glass.
b. laptop is not for Starbucks, it's for travel, nighttime photo proofing in my car, etc.

Well, despite both of those laptops' size... they would be a conversation starter... or people may start laughing when you pull one out of a bag and open it.

I can see it going either way.

This just makes us love our Apple machines even more. :)

Not enough to offset the extra capacity of the battery.

Let's look at some numbers.

The battery capacities are 60 watt-hour and 68 watt-hour, so the 17" has about 13% more energy. Also, the 17" screen is about 22% larger in area than the 15.4".

So we can see that if all the power went to the screen, the 15" would last longer. Of course, it doesn't, but what percentage does? I'm not sure... I do know that I extend battery life dramatically by reducing the screen to minimum brightness.

But for the 15 to run longer than the 17, even with the screen on max, by my calculations the screen would have to be drawing about 61% of the power, and I think it's not even close to that.

How about the airport adapter? I hear that it does not re-charge the computer while it is in use?

The real question is this.. Can it power the computer? Can it provide enough power to just run the computer (not charge the battery, but just run the computer)..

If I am plugged in using the airplane adapter will the computer eventually stop workinig? What if I am on an 8 hour flight? Can I use the computer for the entire 8 hours? Or will I have to shut it down to charge it?

cheers

It will power the comp for as long as you need it. It just won't charge the battery.
Read the reviews on the apple store.

My brand new C2D is sitting less than 10 miles away from me at the FedEx local sort facility and will not be unloaded off their trucks until wednesday (according to the fedex rep anyway)....... :(:(:(

haha love how the negative aspect of the reviews say: I have yet to find a case, or something similar.

Finally finished installing my printer and Office 2004. Went out and bought it for 150, couldn't wait. So there Multimedia, i'm not a software theif. :D

Im still waiting for Apple to update their "Closer Look" page. They still have CD MBP's.
You can see the tiny venting, and there's no FW 800.
