MacBook - MBP power adapter

My MacBook Pro, 15-inch, 2.33GHz has just been delivered! One quick question, the power transformer is bigger than the one on my MacBook. I was hoping to leave one power cord at work and have one at home. Can anyone inform me if they are compatable?

Yes, you can use the MacBook adapter with the MBP. It does get warm and will take longer to charge (wattage differences) but I've got both and interchange regularly. I've been doing this for over a month now w. no problems.

Ah, this has been my dilemma. My Brenthaven that I currently use is custom fitted for an old 15" PowerBook so its use with a 17" MacBook Pro is a complete no-no. Given this I've been looking for a suitable bag for some months and eventually whittled the competition down to a Pakuma Akara K3 or Booq Python XL, with a nod to the STM Large Loop and Oakley Kitchen Sink (now discontinued). My basic criteria was that I wanted a large backpack that could store the laptop plus associated gear (inc. books), that would offer really good protection and didn't look too much like it contained a highly expensive laptop. In the end I plumped for the Booq Python XL [system] that comes with a sleeve (oddly, their site only allows you to order 1 sleeve that will fit a 17" MacBook Pro with a bag designed for one with the others on offer for 12" and 15" systems) and a case that goes on the strap to hold an iPod/PDA/cell phone.

I'm expecting delivery in the next couple of weeks (damned if I was going to pay for FedEx shipment from Germany to Belgium) so I don't know yet how good/bad my decision was but the review for the bag are good.

Did you think at all about the Spire Meta (www.spireusa.com/products/ME6.htm)?

I will (hopefully) be getting a 17" MBP C2D shortly, but only have an STM Sports 2 bag that I have been using for my 12" PB, and that won't be sufficient.

(See Page 45 of this thread for the fake apple store employee)

So driving into work today I passed a McDonald's...on their sign: "The McRib is back!" Too funny...maybe it's an omen that the 17" MBP's will arrive soon.

Going to upgrade the hard drive to Seagate's new perpendicular Momentus 7200.2 160 GB drive when it's available first half of next year, together with Leopard.

Wonder where it will be shipped from, probably Shanghai..

Screw the McRib, I just want my new MBP already!:p I heard someone say their Apple Store doesn't get shipments on Monday...is this true of all Apple Stores?

Can whoever orered a 2.33 w/ matte and 160 gb on wednesday tell me what their ship dates are? I went through an authorized reseller, and they haven't really told me about ship dates.

A person at the Woodfield Mall store said they get shipment EVERY day...they just don't know what they're going to get.

Use Monolingual To Deduct Foreign Languages From Your System & Apps

The only reason to do a fresh install would be if you REALLY need a few extra MBs. If you do a fresh install you can select not to install the languages you don't use and some printer drivers you don't need.

However, you're only going to save at most a few hundred MB, and I think it's much better to keep the exta printer drivers on a laptop. You have no idea the number of times I've found myself in a strange office and been thankful that I can connect to the local printer no problem due to keeping all the drivers on my machine.
You can purge your system and all your applications of foreign languages with Monolingual. No need to reinstall the system from from scratch.

Just ran it on my recent new install of OS X on my 500GB startup drive and freed up 835MB.

i reinstall my system from scratch out of habit at least once a year, usually twice. speeds up everything noticeably and clears out the digital detritus from using the machine daily.

when my new machine gets here the first thing i will do after booting it up to make sure it works, is partition the internal drive (20GB Windows, the rest for OSX) and reinstall OS X.

i know i probably do not NEED to do that (and i know bootcamp will create a partition for me if i ask it to) but i just like to do it myself.

EDIT: oh, i guess you have to go thru Bootcamp to make the windows partition instead of doing it yourself. so i guess i will be doing that instead.

No 160 HDs Have Been Received By Anyone Yet

Has it been confirmed (at least once) that the 160GB HDD is, in fact, a Seagate drive?

Even after reading through this ridiculously long thread, I can't remember anyone actually writing about this bit of information. Or did no 160 CTOs get delivered just yet?
No. That's right. No one has reported receiving one yet.
BTW: I sold an almost new 17" PowerBook a year ago, and got me a 15" PB. The 17" is a very nice machine, but to me it does feel simply too large to be used in public transport, and too heavy to lug around every day.
That was then. They may be lighter now. :)

I Wouldn't Run A MBP With An Lower Wattage MB Power Supply

I don't think that running a MBP with a MB power supply is a good idea. You might do damage to components that want the power only the power supply for its unit can provide. This damage would be subtle and not perceptible until over time parts fail due to not enough wattage having been flowing through them.
