temp and batt life

I installed CoreDuoTemp and I get idle temps smaller than 50C (45-48) and under normal workload (surfing wireless, itunes, iphoto) 50-55C.

I also ran it on battery with no power management at all (everything related to PM disabled in system prefs) Proc was always at 2.16Ghz, 50% brightness, frontrow running an iphoto slideshow with music, wireless on, btooth off - and I got 2.5 hours.
With power management I get 3.5 hours of normal/medium work.

I want to ask though about the vents. It's pretty warm in my house (pretty warm the weather outside too...) but the fans kick in even when CoreDuoTemp shows 55C. They kick in really hard like the engine of a plane.
This thing happens to you too ?

man... iBorg... I am SOO jealous of you right now (and all you other lucky peeps who have their new computers). How is the glossy? Is it everything we hoped it could be? maybe post some pics... that would be sweet

I'll try to post some pics this weekend - right now, it's sleeping to condition the battery.

I absolutely love the glossy screen! Mine's flawless, nary a flawed pixel! It's the brightest laptop screen I've ever seen - I keep it at 50% brightness, and at that it's the brightest screen in our home! No matter how I twist and turn the MBP, or tilt the screen, it's almost impossible to see any "glare," unless it's turned off - then you can see reflection, but not when it's on! The colors are vibrant, the resolution is, IMHO, perfect! I couldn't be happier with this little speed demon! This was the best "wait" I've had for any electronics, computer or otherwise - so glad I passed on Yonah MBP to wait for this!

Finally did a run in 3DMark05 with this thing. I clocked the GPU to 470/470 to match the full spec X1600 mobility clocks found in PC laptops. I'm thinking if I push it to 500/500 I'll break 5k:

Thanks installed that but it doesn't work for Firefox, Safari or MS Word so it was kinda useless. I got a question for you guys, I have AVI files on my windows PC that I can see through networking which use the Divx codec. So I went and installed divx on the mac and when I try to play an avi file off the windows PC, all I can hear is the audio but no video, what gives?

This is a bit off topic, but I reckon Perian's got what you need. Make sure you get the separate AC3 and WMP codecs for completeness (linked at http://trac.perian.org/wiki/SupportedFormats).

I put my mobile number in a box in the purchase window online, I dont think there was a specific, Put your mobile number here and we will text you when your baby is on its way option. I was completely surprised when i received my text.

No change on my order status though in nearly 24 hours. Still showing 12th Nov as delivery date. Shipping via UPS. Seems to me like Fedex are on the ball!

It's UPS for me and Cromwell (both near London). UPS also shipped Apple stuff to me down in Devon, although it was TNT that picked the same stuff up when I did an RMA.

Yes, when I ordered my ipod nano it was UPS. Oh well, they are both good companies. I guess apple just use the next companies plane that is shipping out from Shanghai.

On another note: I have 3 Lacie triple interface drives in a mini rack, never used fw800 but bought them against the day that I would return to the Mac fold (hallelujah the hour is near). My question is: can they be daisy chained? If so does anyone have experience of how well they run like that?

That site is talking about ATI's HyperMemory card. As far as I understand it, they utilize some of your systems RAM as VRAM, similar to the integrated graphics on the MacBook (the HyperMemory cards actually have some real VRAM attached, however). I'm pretty sure the cards in the MBP aren't of the HyperMemory variety.

Can you guys post a picture of the speccs on your X1600?
Want to know if the X1600 128MB ram does have 128bit memory bandwidth..

I ordered 2 15in (2.33/3GB/160GB) through my higher ed. store on the 25th, ship date still says Nov. 3rd... I was really expecting it to ship early, but guess not.

Hi, I received my new MBP (2.33/2G/200GB/matte) this morning.
It was a bit cold since it came via AK

Anyway, as some of you already guess, system profiler says my 200gig disk is "TOSHIBA MK2035GSS," which is PMR.
I'm not sure if Apple also uses Fujutsu's 200gig disks.

Anyway, here is the result of XBench, with comparison to MBP-2.33/2G/120G

Hey, somehow I missed this posting. That's great news that it's the Toshiba instead of the Fujitsu. The benchmarks are really pretty impressive despite 4200 rpm. I can now safely order the 200GB model. I typically always find my laptops run out of disk long before they start feeling too slow.

I'll get the 2.16/2GB/200GB model ... glossy (got used to it on my BlacBook, and can't go back).

I think it ships from shanghai > europe as part of their standard supply chain setup, and is only passed to TNT / UPS when it arrives in-market. why some are UPS & others TNT though, isn't clear, probably relates to the allocation of depots & DC's across the country

I ordered mine through higher Ed on Oct 30th, and it is set to ship on Nov 8. Just over one weeks seems to be the delay from order to ship.
