I posted in the help section, but this may be the better place to ask.

I just got my new MacBook Pro 15". Everything is great except for the left speaker (seemingly).
Was wondering if anyone who received the 15" size could test their speakers for me as well.

Using sound preferences to shift the balance from right to left...
Right speaker - volume seems to be strong and has normal bass.
Left speaker - weaker volume, very tinny or hollow sounding.
Through headphones, both sides sound fine.

Can someone test some of their music in iTunes and let me know how things sound on their internal speakers?

Many thanks!

Has anyone who ordered through theirs through their higher ed institution store getting their BTO systems? I ordered Oct 25 at UIUC and its still set to ship on Nov. 2 (15"/2.33/160/2GB/Matte)...

I purchased the following though the online higher ed store:
(15"/2.16/160/1gb/Matte)
Seems like maybe the faster processor is slowing the shipment down, your not the only one who has had the 2.33 and not a shipment yet.

I ordered mine on the 30th, had a ship date of the 1st, (estimate was the 2nd) and a delivery date of the 7th (current estimate is the 6th)

Speaking of, How accurate is the fedex delivery date? I noticed this morning it got updated from nothing to the 6th by 10:30am. I guess the gamble with the 2-3 day shipping isn't going to pay off. I know i have to have them make a delivery attempt before i go pick it up, but maybe if its sitting in the local warehouse friday or Saturday i can call and see what i can do.

Congrats to everyone who has received their MBPs recently!

Does anyone know if any of the Apple stores in Texas are carrying the new C2D's now? I asked a few days ago, and no one was for sure. Maybe someone's made it to one by now?

One more question! With the holidays coming up quickly, what's it like with orders and whatnot? How early do you need to order to expect to receive one before Christmas FOR Christmas? Is it better to pick one up in stores or do they run out fast?

I just received my 2.16GHz/120GB/1GB RAM/Glossy 15" MacBook Pro.

Just checked the hard-drive model, and it IS the Hitachi (model #HTS541612J9SA00) so I'm ecstatic about that.

Time to have fun! :D

I ordered mine (3) 2.33/3GB/160/Matte on the 25th through the k-12 institution store and I have an unchanged shp on or before Nov 3rd. Really annoying to see people have theirs shipped in 24hrs while we have to wait. I spend anywhere from 60-150 thousand dollars a year on apple products, really bad business to make someone like that wait IMHO. I still have yet to see anyone post that they have gotten a Machine with 3GB might take a while to install that stick:D

I agree it sucks, I'm waiting for two ordered on the same date.

Finally my first mac!

Well! I finally got my MBP!! 2.33, 120, 15" . I love it! I have been waiting to get an apple laptop since last October/November. I was actually first looking at iBook/Powerbooks last year, then heard of new Intel books coming out... wow, from then, to waiting for rev a's kinks to be worked out, to the rev b to come out. It's honestly been a long wait.

I recieved it this morning (an hour before I had to leave for work) by delivery. I ordered it on Oct. 26. It estimated recieving for Nov.2 - 9. So, it came within good time! Luckily I was home when they came to deliver it. I was expecting a call from apple to set up a drop off time ( that's what they told me anyways)

Altogether? It beats my 4 year old intel celeron desktop hands down of course! I love the feel of the keyboard much more than my wife's Macbook. The speed of opening up windows, and getting smaller programs to start is a beautiful thing.

The real test will be when I put bootcamp and windows xp for photoshop CS2 on the system. My major reason for going with the MBP is for large file photo editing and batch processing. So, till then, my main experience has been with internet searching and basic programs use.

I am glad I waited. The last couple months have been very trying on me, but I know I've got something that I will be happy with for the longhaul.

Thanks everyone at Macrumors for being a great support group where I could read that I'm not the only crazy one out there!

Hope everyone who is waiting for their MBP's right now, will have only a very short wait left!

I ordered mine from the AABA store on the 28th not even a ship notice yet, but i did recive the airline adaptor......

I agree - that 3GB stick must take 3 times as long to put in.... that's the only logical explanation for me waiting so long....

Me too, but there's no way i'm going to use Windows for my CS2 work. I recommend buying CS3 for mac when i comes out next year and you can enjoy the beauty of OS-X!

:D

just got my 2.33 / 2 gig / 120 gig MBP

no dead pixels - with Hitachi HTS541612J95A00 (PMR, I believe... right?)
updating some software now...
its beautiful!

I swapped my old macbook pro for MBP Core2Duo

I Originally recieved mine on Oct 4th. Come the 24th they release new models. So I called apple and they let me send the other back. I just got my 15 Glossy Core2Duo.

I got the Hitachi 120 PMR drive, 2.33Ghz processor, with 2GB memory and it still came out cheaper than the original (2.16, 2GB Ram) even after restock fee.

I used the extra money to get a spare battery.

Thanks apple for the free memory upgrade.

Oh, btw, no dead pixels and this thing runs cool & quiet.

here in san antonio they've had them since last thursday, not sure about the 17 but when i went thursday they said it would probably be by monday. I haven't bought one yet because i'm going to get one through the student apple developer connection store which takes a while to validate your purchase because they check with your school.

Agreed...my machine and order date are identical to yours except for being 2GB. My ship date is still the 3rd and expected delivery on the 8th. Got the extra power adapter and battery today, aircraft adapter on backorder.

I guess I can't complain since I get my grants to pay for a nice new work laptop (and saved $200 ~ woohoo), but I don't see why edu customers (who do buy an awful lot of macs) seem to get put towards the back of the bus??

P.S. The edu apple store didn't even work for me on the 24th to place an order (some time out error every time)!

Give up?

Still nothing on the 2.33 15" Glossies in Orlando. I was really hoping to have it tonight to do some audio recording, but now that that looks like it's not possible I'm almost tempted to forget about the retail store and just order one. Seems those are shipping much faster then to the actual stores.

Why can't Apple Stores be given any notification of what will be in their shipments? I wish I had a tracking number to follow. :)

Should I just give up or keep waiting indefinately with no indication when it might come in?

Very nice! Could you run 3dmark06? Is it stable? Does it get remarkable hotter?

I'll try to do a 3dmark06 run later today. It's surprisingly very stable at 480/480 so I'm thinking 500/500 should be quite possible. I got zero artifacting when testing at those clocks and the laptop didn't get hot since the fans kicked up to high speed (sounds like a jet) heh.

My first Apple laptop ever - almost here!

Got my first Mac ever, an iMac G5 Gen1 1.5 years ago. It's nothing but trouble but I love OS X which I have followed with interest from first announcement many years ago and have been waiting for second gen MBP (due to terrible experience with first gen iMac).

My new MBP C2D, 2.16 stock model has ETA of two days from now. My wife tells me I am behaving like a child at christmas (not bad from one near thirty, from the bad side ;-)

About 120GB PMR vs LMR; I don't really care, knowing that PMR is first generation of this technology and unproven in terms of reliability. Theoretically more reliable does not mean that the first gen implementation is perfect.
They are probably fine but it does mean that I'm not fussed which type I get - i's a grey area not an obvious choice.
I would be more interested in upgrading to a new HD a year from now.

Toshiba MK2035GSS 4200RPM 200GB Is Toshiba's 2nd Generation Perpendicular Technology

Hey, somehow I missed this posting. That's great news that it's the Toshiba MK2035GSS instead of the Fujitsu. The benchmarks are really pretty impressive despite 4200 rpm. I can now safely order the 200GB model. I typically always find my laptops run out of disk long before they start feeling too slow.

I'll get the 2.16/2GB/200GB model ... glossy (got used to it on my BlacBook, and can't go back).
All the details of this amazing Toshiba MK2035GSS 200GB PMR Drive are here.

"Toshiba's second-generation PMR offering features the worlds highest areal density at 178.8 gigabits per square inch and the highest-capacity drive on the market in the standard 9.5mm mobile PC format."

Toshiba 200 delivers 178.8 gigabits per square inch 12ms seek time
Hitachi 160 delivers 131.5 gigabits per square inch 11ms seek time

Now understanding this, I would choose this over the Hitachi 160 PMR for +$200 from 15" base 120 or + $100 from 17" base 160. I'm always fill up my HDs in nothing flat. I can wait the extra 1ms. :p

That's + $2.50 per extra GB (+40GB) compared to the going rate of 25¢ per GB for 3.5" SATA/300 400GB HDs today - $100 at Fry's sale days. So we pay a large premium for the miniaturization of our desktops and hte maximum possible HD size and RAM amount - $675 extra to go all the way on the config, 17" total $3474 plus AppleCare and whatever else.

So let's do this to a base 2.16GHz 15" MBP to see if it's affordable there: total $2,949

OK that seems steep. How about the middle 2.33GHz 15"? Total $3,274

Oh well. I tried. :D  I guess that third GB of RAM is just something you most affluent will have to buy so the masses can eventually afford them at ever lowering prices I hope we'll see in 2007. Thank you for doing that for yourselves and inadvertantly for all of us. Love y'all.

NOTE: This Toshiba 200GB PMR will fit in a MacBook folks. It's standard 9.5mm thin.

Great! I wouldn't mind the noise when i am gaming (headphones or loud speakers would overtone the fan noise). If the hardware wont get much hotter the only things that may suffer after some years are the fans (But only if you play XX hours every day overclocked, and thats not really what the mbp is made for)

Same problem here, I was ready to order as soon as the store came up on the 24th, but I was unable to order until the next day.
